Feijoada. Picanha. Frango. Portugal was by far the most relaxed, life-appreciating land I’ve ever had the privilege of shooting in. Fortunate am I to also happen to be Brazilian and have several relatives in Portugal, one of which has been a Chef for more than 15 years and in the recent years, opened a series of Brazilian buffets called “Ponto Brasil”. He is four locations deep in Coimbra and Porto, Portugal and brings a galaxy of Brazilian dishes and desserts to it’s old world motherland. Shout out to all buffet cooks out there preparing pounds of proteins and sides by the 9-trays. 🙏🏽 We don’t look too much alike, but me and my cousin featured in the last pic definitely feel the same way about food and service. 👌🏽

I brought my Nikon D700 to @scapegoatmiami one fine evening with my full manual 50mm f1.4 lens and a full manual Vivitar flash - both from 1972 off my Nikon F2, and produced some film-like imagery of what the Scape actually feels like to be drinking in. From meeting her at @1306miami with @albyinthezone and anticipating the build and opening of @employeesonlymiami, to our shoot of her as an apprentice making me a Mati Hara or Mari Hata or whatever it was that I loved so much, to the day she texted me that she got knighted with the white coat and was the first female in North America to do it, to the unfortunate and stomach-turning close of EO, and now to the brilliant and ever-energetic St Germain BA that she is, and on into the future, well-anticipated opening of EO Miami II... I’m glad it was you that I followed with my camera, love! 💕
I’ve been digging deep in my bag to produce not only original content, but original ways of presenting food. I brushed up on lifestyle photography with a recent shoot for @dicedfood, putting the viewer in the place of the models to project the utility of the food, the venue, the supporting components like environmentally-friendly napkins and utensils and live-edge dining tables. I’ve been rearing up on two frustrations in my work: the frustration of feeling like all my imagery is starting to look the same, and the frustration of pushing my own creativity into the unknown. I prefer the latter, and so I’ve left Miami for a few months in pursuit of just that in Atlanta, Memphis, New Orleans, the states of Florida and New York. I’m gon’ learn me some lessons. Happy Negroni Week, everyone! I was lucky enough to have done a photoshoot of over 100 people making Negroni’s and flexing @campariusa right before I left to Greece last month, and it’s an absolute delight to see everyone share their images! I’m most grateful to Campari and @marita216 for considering me for this project, and overjoyed that that many bartenders got pictures of themselves. 👌🏽 Here’s the Negroni at @matadorroom made by none other than El Kip ( @kipbyrne212), complete with a bespoke gold leaf king cube by the wizards at @mixologyice! 🐉🍷
📛Flair alert!📛 Frolicking through the crevices of @palms will inevitably land you a chair at @mrcocolv if and only if you’re dressed the part. Kick off your experience with an amuse bouche and a light class of perfumes and delicate scents. Take a private elevator up and allow absolute professionals like @christiandelpech_official take the wheel from there. Christian made a few rounds down in Miami in the past year, which is where I had the pleasure of meeting him, but it was a treat to find him at Coco as I did on my visit to Vegas representing @Thirsty. The SEVENTEEN time world champion flair bartender was dressed to the nines, saw me, and made a special exception at the venue for me to take pictures. I did my things for a few, and left to shoot some more bars when he texted me about a $600 cocktail that was about to be assembled by the man behind the venue, Francesco Lafrancoli ( @flafranconi). Images of the cocktail and more are featured in this post, and the next time you’re in Vegas, do yourself a solid and pay them a visit. 👌🏽
👏🏽👏🏽 Que Lo Que, Tigre! 👏🏽👏🏽 Sarah Lu of @sarahluconfections officially opened her brick and mortar cake shop in the Miami Shores area earlier this month, and I couldn’t be happier to have witnessed her progress from working pastry at @thedutchmiami under @chefgripper to pumping Dominican cakes out of her home bakery, and now to have her own commercial cake shop! @sarah.luciaa and @adonayberns are absolutely killing it, and are inspirations to all cake makers, all small businesses, and to all dreamers in Miami and beyond. I love you guys! 🙏🏽💕
Myn-Tu: Sister venue to @myntloungeusa? Yes. Ultra lavish and exclusive? Yes. But is the food good? Also 100% yes. I have to be honest to say that walking into a restaurant that’s literally a nightclub past 11pm doesn’t exactly prompt the idea of a memorable meal before drowning in champagne with lungs full of atomized propylene glycol from the fog machines. But lo and behold, that’s the situation exactly. As I carved through Myn-Tu’s menu with my camera, I did the same with a fork, and I learned something astonishing, which is that clubby venues tend to offer very particular socialite comfort foods! You’ve got your fanned-out ribeye steak, your lamb and pork chops, crusted airline duck breast with zucchini, your immense sushi boat, tuna tartare, fish tacos with gold leaf, and of course the nightclub equivalent to Bonefish Grill’s “Bang Bang Shrimp”. I was really at home with the whole deal, and I couldn’t believe it! This spread, gilded with men in suits, dim lights and minimal music was an absolute treat to shoot in, and soon to dine in. Clubby restaurants are integral part of Miami food culture, and I’m happy to say that I’ve renewed my vows. 🙏🏽 Thank you @myntu.mia !
Puerto Rico, March 2019, Tara of @thirsty leads @jholano and myself into a dark bar on a narrow street. Inside, a pop-up event is underway, of which Nicole Fas ( @fasnicky) is basically batching cocktails five at a time. She’s stern, unmoved by my bright flashing lights, and in between the flashes, @jholano’s camera lens all up in her space. Fas is there to serve, and serving well. Less than two months later, she places in the top three finalists at Bacardi Legacy 2019. We documented a rockstar without knowing it. 😍 This is pride month, and today was National Puerto Rican Day Parade. This post makes all the sense. Congratulations just one more time to Nicole for everything that your accomplishment sheds light on. 🙏🏽

Chef Billy once asked me who my favorite Chef was after doing hundreds of kitchen and food photoshoots, and getting to know each and everyone of them on a deeper level than most... I knew what I was going to say, but I had to pause and think of an explanation to an impossible question. Chefs aren’t their food, chefs aren’t their restaurant, chefs aren’t their hype. A Chef is the person you have a beer with at a dive after a Friday night rush, in full uniform, with sweat rings across their back, kinda quiet, spectating on what their line cooks are joking about. And if you’ve hung with as many as I have, you couldn’t possibly choose one. If @chefbillyg is still curious, you’re up there, bro. You’re up there. Here’s a shoot I did this week at Billy’s house near Kendall for his thriving catoring company. Shout out to @joshspremiummeats for supplying the wild soft and supreme, bespoke cuts of beef, duck and pork. 👌🏽 Lastly, shout out to @gabrielgphotos, a better photographer than I, and even better homie. ✊🏽
If your girl doesn’t wake you up tomorrow morning with this setup on a bed tray, what’s the point? While your relationship is on the fence, I’m over here trying to wife up a hotel in Ft Laudy called @the_dalmar. I rented someone’s Dodge Ram off of @turo and rode up confederately with @vanemartinezz by my side to light this pancake’s world up. We licked off a total of twelve breakfast items, all very comforting in portion and in line with great American breakfast staples like Oatmeal and Fruit & Steak and Eggs... why’s there an “and” in a lot of breakfast items?... 🤔 Whatever, the food was plentiful, and the venue decked out in white marble and 1,573 foot ceilings just as a millennial yuppie would except. I really, really wanna wake up in Ft Lauderdale after a bender at @glitchbar.ftl and @_thewilder_... maybe even @americasbackyard... and rush over to the Dalmar for medical attention in the form of hot cakes to the dome. 💕
Oyeme, what a delicious challenge it was to shoot slippery ice on a mirror and produce such a sexual end product. Wow, I must have shot and edited for 20 hours on this project, and with great delight! To know that photos are forever, and well-produced photos will serve my clients and my portfolio, my potential and my legacy forever is an immeasurable feeling. Big, big thanks to @mixologyice for considering me for this lofty shoot, and a huge thanks to @bacardi for sponsoring the entire scenario of both studio shots and the bar shoot at @beakerandgray with @maybe_its_jebelean. Happy Hotdog Day, everyone! What’s your favorite part of a hotdog? I like it when my bun is really toasted and crisp, and when you grab it, the bread shell cracks. Oooof. Oh and my go-to toppings are mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard and potato sticks. I always felt like putting chili made the hotdog something it’s not. Melted cheese over everything is good too. Relish is the worst thing you could put on a hotdog because relish is like pickles and pickles are the f***ing worst. As for the actual sausage, there are no healthy options for this component, but that just adds to the delicious flavor profile of the hotdog as a whole. My favorite hotdog ever is the Super Perro from @losperros, even though the price of their hotdog went from $4 to $10 within like a two year span. It’s got the thinnest sausage possible, but is hella loaded with cheese and bacon and halved hard-boiled quail eggs, and comes in clutch when you’re absolutely wasted. Insane. I’d drench it in pineapple sauce everytime. Due to their ridiculous price hike, I don’t really mind that they had to close their Miami Beach location, but I do indulge most of everytime I hit @thebendmiami. It’s actually not Hotdog Day at all, but idgaf. No one is talking ABOUT food anymore. People are simply posting their food pics and saying what’s in it. Who gives a shit what’s in it?! Tell me how it makes you feel bro! Look alive, influencers. @tacostattoos made this one, and it was divine as a naked, stand alone ‘dog. 👌🏽

Pro tip: Being 6’1 really helps with flat-lay shots. This is my favorite food related self-portrait to date, taken at @thedutchmiami for their seasonal rollout. Chefs @chefgripper and @_marioalegre_ are patient artists and create with conviction. I’ve personally staged under both of them at this venue, and can tell you first-hand how precise and meticulous the prep work was, how particular they were with how salads were to be assembled, and how they almost listen to porkchops searing to their perfect temps. It’s magic. Peep what the Dutch is pumping out currently in this post, and be sure to dine often as restaurant rollouts rarely recycle recipes. 👌🏽
I’m like rum in that I enjoy chocolate shavings all over me. I licked off a @barcelorumuk shoot last month at @sophiessobe with my guy @itsreallydavid, and we absolutely milked every part of that bar. This first shot was taken in a charming concrete crack on the ground, but we also used the sexual wall paper, glittered walls, ribbed cocktail tables and even the drug shelves in the bathrooms. I took my sweet time on this shoot, and pretended I wasn’t being paid for it, and that made all the difference. Avoid rental scooters with wheel extensions this week and visit one of South-of-5th’s best bars ever. 👌🏽
Beer is a smashing good time. I was inspired today to shoot something beyond the usual, stirring creativity with a wildly stress-relieving process to capture what happens when you’re trashed and drop your beer. Shout out to my clients that trust me, support me and flaunt the work I do for them, and a special shout out to all of the porters and barbacks that have to muscle through crowds with a dust pan and clean after your drunk ass with a flashlight in their mouth. #🙏🏽

Atlanta is the tits, and so is this tower of crustacean delicacies that I had the grand pleasure of snapping last week with my impromptu food wrangler @heyitsthatchick__, via the ATL plug and Santa Teresa gang affiliate @thecocktailshaker_ at @driftoysterbar - just 45 minutes (or 21 minutes in a Porsche Panamera) outside the city. I can personally attest to how delicious the Lob Rolls were, and how cocktail-forward the scene really is out there. The Superbowl sucked, but the city it was held in does not. Last week, @valentinocucina and @onedooreast were visited by @52chefs, two deep and ready to produce beautiful imagery. I handed off my first 52Chefs camera, a Nikon D7000 with a kit lens, to my apprentice/twin @larii_marc to take shots alongside me, we shot, came home, I edited my shots, delivered the images and went to Atlanta and St. Croix. Tonight, I’ve visited the shots Lari took, and had to pick my jaw off my desk. And so with no further delay, I present to you Larissa’s first ever food photoshoot. Before you scroll, know that I gave her minimal instructions on composition as I was on the clock with the venue, and that ALL of the follow images were taken by her. Papa Doble’s dream of opening a Cantinero bar and restaurant has materialized itself through years of planning, hard-work, maintaining a great reputation and relationship with with his peers, and the help of his family and everyone along the way. I’ve heard his story, the narrator being himself, and I’m touched. A sincere congratulations to @juliopapadoble, his son @_cabrera_jr_ who has also put in endless hours, and the entire team at @cafelatrovamiami. The @lucalimiami shoot went gracefully, like an opera where you just sit back and observe the artist perform his or her mysterious service of art at their pace. The crust bubbling, staff going back and forth about the proof bring too red, or not being red enough, throwing out seemingly perfect basil leaves to the untrained eye. I felt like I was in an Italian pizzaria in 1938, a place I’ve never been and a time I’ve never lived it. But that’s what it felt like. The feels, friend. The #feels.

A guy was looking Parisian af in 2018 amidst many other victorious ventures and successes that yielded from food and cocktail photography. 🙏🏽 I want to thank everyone around me for believing in me, and making it ok to fully be myself through it all. All I really wanted was to be able to be myself and provide value to the market and to my community at the same time. I’m not the most formal person out, but this past year embraced me and told me it was ok to live honestly. I travelled, I barbacked, I moved to the beach, and I held it down strictly through freelance work and hit 99 invoices. It’s been so overwhelming to learn that passion and service is my happiness, and in retrospect, the hard times where the most beautiful. I’m living a really good life right now, and will dedicate 2019 to sharing everything I’ve come to learn with others. Respect, and happy New Years. 🤙🏽
