A SQUARE & A CIRCLE
Today was a day of awakening and enlightenment was received. I was yearning to grasp the things I once dismissed and so, instead of spending hours of screen time looking for clothing online or playing voyeur on my social, I sought for pieces of literature that spoke of my people’s aspirations to be like Mbeku. I discovered there was a thing called Chi and I read of Ikenga and Ala. Today I became far more enriched than I was yesterday and the days before. 2019 ‘Embodying Ala’ 3ft by 12ft oil on raw canvas. (An Intentionally non- archival piece)
Here’s the full image. title- after hours. 3ft by 4ft Also, a few words I’d like to leave you with today: “Life as they say is indeed a pot of beans-But what does that mean? No one ever asserted more meaning to that statement yet, those who hear it know what it means. I’ve come up with my own exegetical read to help elucidate this phrase- depending on how much pepper you put in the beans, and how late at night you eat the beans, the outcome differs. You might wake up with terrible diarrhea or be surprised at mysteriously dodging the anticipated bullshit”.
Short excerpt from something I’m currently writing that goes well with my family portrait series: “We always thought our fathers were fathers from the beginning- never babies, never children, never teenagers filled with angst. Perfect from the start with no lusts for worldly pleasures-They were seamless, with no sins. They were fathers and that’s just what fathers were. They had experience and they were always right- same goes for the moms too, it was a parent thing. I never thought about who those individuals were before they could’ve ever dreamed of my existence. I never thought of them having lives that led up to I and my sibling’s being.” (Sigh, I miss my mom a lot).
Later than it should be but happy international women’s day ❤️❤️❤️ These are film-stills from a short video (some what performance) I recently shot 😊. Look at those wonderful, juicy pomegranates! So luscious 😍
