"We kept improving the character pretty deep into the production of Endgame. ... It was really about trying to figure out how much Mark and how much creature. You don't want to get into a place where the end result looks like a Photoshop version of Mark’s head turned green, yet you still want to make sure that all of Mark's performance is coming through. Once we landed on that spot where we could see Mark acting through the character, then we were off to the races.” - #AvengersEndgame Animation Supervisor, Kevin Martel via @yahooentertainment

For 1997's #MenInBlack the crash sequence in Flushing Meadows Park was achieved with models and the spacecraft was rigged to fly thirty-five feet at a speed of thirty miles per hour. It would then come to an immediate and controlled stop at a precise mark ... otherwise it risked crashing through the soundstage wall.

This #BlackHistoryMonth we're celebrating filmmakers whom we've worked with past and present, and whose work we particularly admire. Today, Art Director, Fred Palacio speaks to his collaboration with @ava for #AWrinkleInTime.
The majority of the tunnel helicopter sequence in 1996’s #MissionImpossible was CG but a few shots were done with miniatures. A 500ft track was built on ILM’s backlot. A winch would accelerate the camera up to 40mph. Only two helicopters were built to be blown up, so every morning they were meticulously put back together. #tbt #insideilm #vfx
“The technical aspect of finding our way visually was hard. That was the biggest challenge. You start with a blank piece of paper and have to design a world in such detail." - @readyplayerone VFX Supervisor, Roger Guyett
This #BlackHistoryMonth we're celebrating filmmakers whom we've worked with past and present, and whose work we particularly admire. Today, Executive VFX Producer, Jill Brooks speaks to her collaboration with Spike Lee on Miracle at St. Anna.

“I’m a child of the ’80s and I wanted to try to rekindle that childhood sense of intrigue, wonder and discovery I felt when I found #Transformers for the first time.” - @bumblebeemovie director, Travis Knight
We're thrilled that our artists contributed to three of the five films nominated for the Special Visual Effects @bafta. Congratulations to all of this year's nominees.
For underwater hair simulations in @aquamanmovie we upgraded our Haircraft tools to get a much finer control over the way hair sticks together and flows free and to be able to run sims in multiple passes. #techtuesday #vfx #beforeandafter
We’d like to congratulate all of the films that are here at the @theacademy #VFX bake-off for a year of absolutely stunning artistry. We’re proud that our work is amongst them.

“Aech is a mechanic so he is part machine with hydraulic parts, which was a creative launching point for that character. If you look closely, his skin resembles the tough hide of a rhinoceros and there’s also some manta ray patterning on his head. Those are the kinds of visual choices Helen made to present herself in a certain way in the OASIS. She’s quite a special character.” - Grady Cofer, #VFX Supervisor, @readyplayerone

“Joe and Anthony Russo and Dan DeLeeuw are truly collaborative, always asking questions and listening, and generally including everyone in the process. As Dan has said many times, ‘the best idea wins, no matter the source,’ and its true. Everyone on the team is constantly striving to make things better and have the effects better serve story. In the end, story rules. Couldn’t ask for more.” - Russell Earl, @avengers #InfinityWar #VFX Supervisor
“I think what’s fun about the silo scene is that that’s an old-time effects gag. That’s just a big, rubberized diaphragm thing with a hole in it. It’s a membrane that’s stretched across the bottom there, and it’s all a plywood platform underneath, with a little hole that the kids can slip down through. There’s only a small layer of corn. It looks like it’s really thick, but it’s maybe six inches, and it all drains out. There are shots, by the way, where the rubberized membrane shows, so we had to put extra corn in. One of our jobs was to clean all that up, because it gives away the trick.” - Scott Farrar, #VFX Supervisor on @aquietplacemovie (📷: Jonny Cournoyer for @paramountpics)
Congratulations to our Chief Creative Officer John Knoll, on being honored with a Sci-Tech Award from @theacademy.
"In motion capture, Lena Waithe walked on boxes to give her elevation and help eyelines. But the translation was a lot more complicated than putting her head at the right height. We went to a lot of work to make sure that Aech's stride was scaled appropriately. Sometimes we slowed down the speed of his motion, which added to the character's weight, pulling back or exaggerating motions to create a sense of gravity." - David Shirk, #ReadyPlayerOne Animation Supervisor
