"I think that travel is probably the most spiritual activity you can do. I also think that music is the most spiritual art. When I say spiritual, all I mean is you get this sense of the whole and you get the sense that you are not the center of the universe. We are so much more expansive than we think and it's been really cool to both have a career and life in music where we constantly get to practice being outside of ourselves."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @sophiesistermoon of @sofitukker shares what she loves about travel and music.

"I was first drawn to Brazilian culture because of the language and a lot of my favorite music was in Portuguese. I was a jazz singer singing in Portuguese, but I had no idea what I was saying. So I took the language as a course and dove deeper into the culture. Then I moved to Brazil and continued studying music and guitar. I think there's something about Brazil specifically that is so musically rich. Not only does the language lend itself to music because of how melodic it is, but also there's a combination of cultures that is amazingly rhythmic." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @sophiesistermoon of @sofitukker shares her love of #Brazil and its music.
A real travel luxury: doing nothing in a beautiful place. When in #Italy, practice "Dolce Far Niente," or the sweetness of doing nothing. Dare to travel and return to report how little you did. Take home a bit of peace from a country where family, food, and life come first.
Appreciate art in unique forms to get inspired on your next trip. Plan a visit to the gardens of #Abbotsford, a unique masterpiece originally owned and overseen by literary legend, Sir Walter Scott. The "outdoor rooms" serve as an extension of Scott's personality, passions and storytelling themes. They are meant to bring his works, threaded with romance, adventure and history, to life. Observe the statues, smell the scents, and study the lines as you would brushstrokes on a portrait. You may find inspiration for your next creative project. What has been the most unexpected source of inspiration from your travels?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Photo by @edienthusiast.
“I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect from Milwaukee, but I think it surprised me in a lot of ways. On the exterior it has an old industrial look to it, but then there is this sort of new energy and style to it as well. And then you have the almost tropical looking waters of Lake Michigan, which makes for an even more interesting combination.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Photo and perspective from #MarriottBonvoy member @michaelmatti. “Japanese, Filipino, Portuguese, Korean, Chinese, and later, Vietnamese and Thai, influences merged with traditional Hawaiian culture. That’s what has made Hawaii — and Hawaiian food — the way it is today. It’s also unique because of the ingredients. Ulu, or breadfruit. Fern shoots. Hearts of palm. Different types of dragon fruit, soursop, lychee and longan… you can get them on the mainland, but they taste so different when it’s grown in your neighborhood." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Colin Hazama, the executive chef at #Oahu's historic The Royal Hawaiian, a @theluxurycollection Resort, #Waikiki explains what makes #Hawaiian cuisine special via @mbonvoytraveler. "My favorite hike with my family is in the Mecca Hills, the Painted Canyon/Ladder Canyon hike on the east side of the Coachella Valley. It’s a slot canyon where you can’t even see the sun in some areas because you’re enveloped by canyon walls. Ladders have been placed throughout the canyon so you can access the different levels of it and reach the top. When you get to the top, you have views of the Salton Sea, Palm Springs and beyond. Travel sparks creativity. American landscape photographer Ansel Adams began his career on an inspiring trip to #Yosemite National Park at age 12. Sparked by the deep connection to nature he felt in Yosemite, his work revolutionized the art world and brought new awareness to American conservation. "Egyptians call Cairo 'Egypt itself' because it’s so huge and full of wonders. Cairo doesn’t have one look. It’s a city of many faces, many cultures. Each neighborhood has its own mood. Some have a European touch; others are more medieval. Some are full of gardens, and others are full of noise. There are the areas by the Nile, the hills of Mokattam in southeast Cairo... Cairo is like a poem, an epic. This is a city where, if you give yourself a chance to be a son or daughter of this place — if you try to understand it — you’ll find it so unique and different.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Filmmaker @ahmed_khalil_13 reveals his favorite things about #Cairo via @mbonvoytraveler.
"Good travel to me means being able to fully experience the place I find myself in, from those cotton candy skies at sunrise to really diving into a new culture, picking up a few phrases of a new language, making new memories with new friends and ultimately coming home with a fuller heart (and SD card) than when I left." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Perspective and photo from #MarriottBonvoy member @carmenhuter.
“From a distance the whiteness of the flats was so shocking — cut into the mountains, they are brighter and more faceted than any jewel. In this world of virtual reality and technology, it’s just so nice to be surprised by something in the flesh. Seeing them, I felt keenly aware of time — Jurassic time, ancient human history and my lifetime folded into one.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Artist and #MarriottBonvoy Platinum member Paula Wilson muses on her visit to the salt flats at Maras for #StoryBooked.
“What I loved in Japan is that you feel this inner child everywhere. In the subway they have baby pink vending machines, and construction workers wear suits in funky shades of green or orange. There’s so much color.... Japan is a place where people focus on creation rather than destruction, on a hopeful future rather than the challenges of the past. There’s so much negativity out there that I think it’s important to promote positivity and happiness. I think we all have that as humans, and it keeps us together.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Artist and #MarriottBonvoy Platinum member @fidanbagirova recounts her memories from her journey to Japan for #StoryBooked.
"Anyone that visits Puerto Rico will immediately understand why we’re so sensitive to color. Growing up in a really lush landscape like Puerto Rico, there’s always plants everywhere, wild birds, bright colors. Art imitates life or life imitates art. That’s super visible when you’re in Old San Juan and every single building is a different color. It’s like a beautiful box of crayons. Somehow all the colors mixed up together work, and I feel like my work is very much like that. Very unexpected prints or colors all combined together. And it works. It’s very much like life." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Fashion designer @margaritaalvarezofficial explains the unique vibe of #PuertoRico via @mbonvoytraveler.
