I received this kind note after our demo in São Paulo, signed his “rib” and then @griffingass saw him right after he got inked. I appreciate the gesture, but be careful what you wish for... 🍖✍🏼
Not sure what’s going on here but @swallow_tattoo tagged me in it... I’m just gonna assume that someone lost a bet. And I’m honored.
The most challenging part of my “job” is constant travel, but I manage to stay connected and productive among all the distractions. #Ad Thanks to my @AmericanExpressBusiness Platinum Card and the Shop Dell benefit, I can get up to $200 in statement credits annually for U.S. purchases with @Dell. Terms apply. Link in bio to learn how. #AmexAmbassador #DellSmallBiz #AmexBusiness
Happy birthday to my brother Steve, who gave me my first skateboard, surfed the Antarctic, and taught me the meaning of “brown eye” at a very young age. Thanks for all the inspiration, and for agreeing to donate “our” skateboard to the Smithsonian a few years ago.
in 1985, I was invited to do a television show in Japan that featured talented kids. I was 16 and it was my first time traveling alone; the whole trip was surreal and intimidating, but it began my love of Japanese culture that continues to this day. The producers asked me to lie about my age (!) because the show only featured kids under 16 and change the name of the tricks I would demonstrate to make them more “Japanese friendly.” Skate trick names were already silly and theirs were even sillier, but I played along while holding back laughter each time. Swipe for a full run on the LITERAL half-pipe (no flat), and the intro sequence to the show. Thanks to @studiofishi for reminding me of this! Gonna go practice Monkey Back Drops now.
I had the privilege of touring the world with my good friend #rayunderhill 30 years ago. Growing up as outcast skaters, everything was wild and weird to us; we didn’t truly appreciate the diversity and culture that we were so lucky to experience back then. This week, I had the privilege of traveling with his daughter Olivia (and a few of our kids) and got to see the same sense of wonder in her eyes as we journeyed around Paris during #vansparkseries. It made me thankful to come this far and still be traveling the globe all because of a wooden plank with four wheels, but mostly it made me appreciate sharing the multiplicity of Europe and informed perspectives to a younger generation. Traveling is a great form of education.... get out there if you can. 📷: me (1989 / 2019)
Epic movie night watching @MarvelStudios #AvengersEndgame. In celebration, I threw a little soirée in the backyard for family and friends. Get it on Digital now and Blu-ray 8/13! Visit Marvel.com/WeLoveYou3000
Go see @warish.usa if you get the chance. I believe Nirvana would approve.
There was an annual 4th of July event in the neighborhood where I grew up (Tierrasanta, San Diego) that included a “bike decoration” contest. My dad helped me during the bicentennial (1976) and we came up with this monstrosity. I remember having to walk it there because the balloons and gift wrap (!) rendered it useless. Happy 4th! Here’s to parents embarrassing their kids; it is a tradition I am proud to pass along.
Happy Birthday Kady! Thank you for al the love and laughter, and for dragging me to London to see the endless Harry Potter play that one time.
Lipslide, 1997. Been dusting off these skills recently to see what still works. Stay tuned.
#Throwback to January, when I spoke at ISPO Digitize during ISPO Munich about the future of sports - which i believe is now a combination of digital platforms and physical prowess. Technology is definitely an advantage for the sports industry and if you happen to be in Munich during July 3rd and 4th, don’t miss your chance to attend the ISPO Digitize Summit. #ISPODigitizeSummit #ISPO #acceleratingsports
Happy anniversary to my best friend and quintessential co-parent, the darkly exquisite @catherine_o. Thank you for this wonderful ride; I never knew a real life could be so fun and rewarding all at once. 🖤👰🏼👴🏼🛹
Thanks @aaron_kahan for this photo from Rusty Harris Pro-Am Series at Upland Combi, 5/29/82. Practically the entire skate scene of that era is in the background. I got my first pro model just a few months later... Copers and Lappers and rails, oh my.
I barged into women’s practice this morning at @vansparkseries in São Paulo to give you a glimpse of what’s happening here (in order: @jordynbarratt @yndiaraasp @iamslaughterqueen). Finals are tomorrow and I’ll be on the mic with @chriscote. Swipe for some magic of @tweestopher chasing @top.roman. Watch at vansparkseries.com

My dad died in 1995 of lung cancer (non-smoker). He would drive me to every skate event in Southern California when I was growing up, and eventually formed the NSA by convincing the fractured & struggling skate companies to work together on a professional competition series. His crowning achievement came when he saw me on ESPN at the first Extreme Games in 1995; to see skateboarding featured on the sports network he watched most was as big as it could get. He passed away that summer having no idea about the meteoric rise in skateboarding - and my career - that was about to happen. Riley was the only child of mine that he got to meet but his legacy is the parenting that I (and my siblings) provide to our children, and I am thankful to have his rare example to emulate. Happy Father’s Day to all the Rad Dads
In today’s news... These [mistaken] interactions happen regularly, but I only share the ones I find entertaining. To clarify a few misconceptions: I don’t expect to be recognized by anyone, and most of my “fan” encounters are the kind where someone recognizes me with certainty; while I appreciate them, those ones aren’t as fun to share.
Thanks to Michael Che for introducing me at the #cliosport awards and not destroying my career in the process (although I know it was tempting). Congrats to all the other incredibly talented nominees, and thank to @clioawards for the honor.
My first trip to NYC was in 1987 during a Bones Brigade tour with @tommyguerrero. We drove into the city, parked the frail Powell tour van, walked to CBGB and bought shirts. By the time we got back, our van was tagged. Some cops drove by and sternly told us we shouldn’t have parked there, and we were lucky that it didn’t get broken into or stolen. The city has changed dramatically since then, but then not at all in the most beautiful, gritty ways. Thanks for all the magical memories 🍎. Honored to be here as a @clioawards recipient tonight.
Three runs from 1988 “Gotcha Grind” finals in Seattle. The first was my best, but I like the experimentation with switch tricks in the last [sketchy] run. Also some quality @skate_squats sprinkled throughout.
Thanks to everyone that showed up and/or supported our @tonyhawkfoundation fundraiser tonight in celebration of THPS anniversary. Here’s your chance to choose your character... 20 years later (some of the original lineup are at Copenhagen Pro, and @stevecaballero is injured; which only means that we’re still out here living the dream). Special thanks to @birdmanthps & @badreligionband for stellar performances
Go watch @thearmedixi’s new video “Ft Frank Turner” shot by @camera_jesus and maybe this awesome photo will make sense. Link in his bio
I'm teaming up with @bagelbites to form the Rad Dad Squad, celebrating those dads who create spontaneous fun with their kids. Tag those rad dad moves with #RadDadSquad - recruiting starts now! raddadsquad.com #Rad #Dad #Ad
Don’t call it a comeback! Is it still considered “selling out” when you’ve been buying the product long after they were paying you to endorse it? Either way, it’s good to be back with @bagelbites. More to come from this #bagelboy soon. #ad
Thanks to @camera_jesus for capturing me in motion today in and around Detroit. I can’t begin to explain how frightening handrails are for me these days, considering my AARP status and long dormant street skills. 👴🏼🛹⚠️
Skateboard P (aka @pharrell) is on Demolition Radio tomorrow! We talked about his roots in skating, Trashmore, early music influences, NERD and the universe. It’s wildly interesting; you can also get caught under his spell. Show airs on @siriusxm 103 at these times: Sat, June 1st, 1pm ET Sun, June 2nd, 12am ET Sun, June 2nd, 10am ET Sun, June 2nd, 7pm ET (available on demand through the app after that).
Oasis Skatepark team, 1978. Would love help identifying everyone in this photo (my neighbors Thad & Lee are bottom row). Pretty sure the trophies are for ASPO series Park Team division. I’m lower right with Rector shorts, Norcon helmet and Mr. Bill shirt.
I love traveling but it’s even more fun to go somewhere new. Shanghai has Blade Runner vibes. The @vansparkseries starts here tomorrow; I’ll be commentating on the live broadcast 🎤👴🏼🛹
Japan air while shooting The End, 1998. Fun facts: we rented this bullring In Tijuana for $200/day. It took 6 days to build the ramp (thanks to @teampainskateparks) and I skated it for 4 days total. @buckylasek rode it for only one day. For ramp nerds: it had 12’ trannies with 2’ of vert. I could only hit a few walls before losing my speed because the transition was so big. Loop was 7’ radius, 14’ tall; I made it on the last day and then @goonsac & @parts pulled it shortly after. 📷: @atibaphoto
Happy 50th to this magnificent mother, punker, skater, humanitarian and tender missionary from the underworld; my beautiful best friend @catherine_o. Thank you for this wonderful life of chaos and adventure. And special thanks to @float.land for creating my very ambitious gift of emulating our house & kids (& dog) in VR.
Happy Mother’s Day to the hardest working people out there. We appreciate you even though we may not show it enough. Hug / visit / call your mom today because tomorrow holds no promises. Here is my mom - smart and sassy - before Alzheimer’s stole her from us.
