Yesterday, we had a Job Skills Training program lunch where both employed graduates and job pool candidates shared insights about their experience at Ubuntu and with the job market in Port Elizabeth. We heard about challenges like a lack of opportunities and workplace stressors, but also motivating factors like the importance of perseverance, focusing on your purpose, and teamwork. ⠀ During the lunch, students took part in an exercise where they had to describe their journey in two words. Some of these included -- "from darkness to life,” "from hope to strength," "from zero to hero," "from lost to confident.” ⠀ We're so encouraged by our youth coming together, cultivating community, and supporting one another as they reflect on their #cradletocareer experience with Ubuntu. ⠀ ⠀ #zerotohero #darknesstolight #pathwaysoutofpoverty #southafrica #empowerment #confidence #jobskills⠀ ⠀

Today we remember the passing of a dear friend of Ubuntu and a legend in the fight against apartheid. Hugh Masekela honored us by gracing our gala stages for many years, and sharing his music at the opening of the Ubuntu Centre. Bra Hugh, you are missed, but your legacy lives on. #hughmasekela #RIPHughMasekela #southafrica
Announcing the Ubuntu School - a dream come true. From our inception, Ubuntu has sought to provide a full-time academic home for our vulnerable students. When we started in a broom closet, 20 years ago, this seemed impossible. Today, this vision is now a reality. We're thrilled to announce that we have officially opened a primary school on the Ubuntu Campus, completing our pathway out of poverty. Together, we have created a special place of excellence and inspiration. #ubuntuschool #southafrica #ubuntu #dreamscometrue #portelizabeth #cradletocareer
This year Ubuntu turns 20. To commemorate two decades of life-changing work we’re holding four Galas around the globe. Come celebrate with us. #cradletocareer #ubuntugala #southafrica

The Ubuntu Centre– where smiles are contagious!
Play-based learning has an important role in our curriculum. It has a whole host of benefits– developing social and emotional skills, fostering creativity and imagination, and encouraging language development. And it's fun!
Wishing everyone a happy holiday season with friends and loved ones!
A curious, sweet boy, Ayakha is like a lot of four-year-olds. He loves playing with blocks, baking class, and learning with his friends at school. But the daily support he receives inside and outside the classroom isn't possible without gifts like yours. Give today to help children like Ayakha continue on pathways out of poverty. (Link in bio)
Happy Monday! We love playtime at the Ubuntu Campus. What's the best part of your week? #MondayMotivation
Even the most effective health and educational interventions can be undermined if things are not going well at home. Ensuring a safe and stable household is the foundation of our impact. Our team is there to constantly monitor clients’ progress and help families live healthy and stable lives.
Recently, we held our annual Grannies Lunch at the Ubuntu Centre. This event honors the grandmothers in our community who play an essential role in caring for young children, often in the absence of their parents.
Nelson Mandela was an incredible force, not only in bringing people together in the aftermath of apartheid, but in shaping a new South Africa. His life goes on in his contributions to South Africa and the world. #RestinPower #Madiba

Today is #WorldAIDSDay. South Africa suffers from an especially high rate of infection. But at Ubuntu, we work hard to ensure that 100% of the pregnant, HIV-positive women that come through our doors give birth to healthy, HIV-negative babies. Giving them the best start in life is the most important thing we do. #CradletoCareer
We love the Ubuntu Cafe! Every day, we train young people to make the best coffee in the Eastern Cape. ☕️😊
Creativity is best when shared. An Ubuntu classroom, February 2017.
Did you know? We have 5 spots open in the #NYRR Half Marathon in NYC for 2019! Please let us know if you're interested in competing and raising funds for Ubuntu! #UnitedNYCHalf 🏃🏿♀️
"Ubuntu is very difficult to render into a Western language. It speaks of the very essence of being human. When we want to give high praise to someone we say, “Yu, u nobuntu”; “Hey, so-and-so has ubuntu.” Then you are generous, you are hospitable, you are friendly and caring and compassionate. You share what you have. It is to say, “My humanity is caught up, is inextricably bound up, in yours.” We belong in a bundle of life. We say, “A person is a person through other persons.” It is not, “I think therefore I am.” It says rather, “I am human because I belong. I participate, I share.” A person with ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, for he or she has a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed, or treated as if they were less than who they are."⠀ ⠀ —Ubuntu Pathways Patron, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, “No Future Without Forgiveness” #GivingTuesday
We are so grateful for our family of supporters who make our work possible! Tag someone you're grateful for in the comments.

With incredible South African food, music, and even comedy, the night was truly a celebration of South Africa! 🇿🇦🙌🇿🇦
It is amazing to see the impact on a community when you invest in a child from cradle to career. Thina attended Ubuntu Pathways and returned after university to lead our after school program. Now, with a Master’s degree in Statistics under her belt, she lectures bright young minds at Rhodes University. ⠀ ⠀ She is also an entrepreneur who runs two businesses– one that provides safe housing for young girls who are attending high school in her area, and another that delivers fresh fruits and vegetables right to people’s homes. She is truly an inspiration to us and our community.
Nothing but smiles today! We're ready for a weekend filled with friends, family, and fun. What do you have planned?
Yum! All kids need good food to grow and develop to their full potential. Do you have a favorite healthy snack?
