Excessive Heat Warning Now in Effect From Friday Afternoon Through Saturday Evening As of Thursday July 18th, 2019 an excessive heat warning was issued. It is reported that heat index values will be up to 111 degrees due to temperatures in the upper 90s, and dew points in the mid 70s. An excessive heat warning means that the combination of both heat and humidity can create a dangerous, serious situation where heat illnesses are possible. Timing for this warning is from 12PM on Friday through 10PM Saturday. Extreme heat may cause illness and death among at risk populations that cannot keep cool. These heat conditions may quickly cause heat stress, or more seriously, a heat stroke. Know the signs and symptoms of a heat stroke, which include dizziness, nausea, rapid heart beat, shallow breathing, and seizures. It is recommended to wear light weight and loose fitting clothing, as well as drinking plenty of water. Look out for seniors and those who have chronic health issues or mental health conditions, as they are at an increased risk for heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Homes without air conditioning can be much hotter than outside. To stay cool, use air conditioning at home or at a place that is air conditioned. Take extra safety precautions if you work or spend a lot of time outside. It is advised to reschedule strenuous activities when possible. Please check on vulnerable friends, family members, seniors, and neighbors. To find a NYC cooling center, call 311 or visit http://nyc.gov/oem. Anyone that has become greatly affected by the heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location and in case of an emergency call 911.

At this workshop, Co-op City residents are able to give suggestions, make comments, and share feedback on the proposed Co-op City Metro-North station. There are also interactive maps that residents are able to draw and write on. It is important that we stay involved and voice our opinions on the changes in our neighborhood.

Many people think of the Friday after Thanksgiving Day as a good shopping day but for the Bronx Youth Empowerment Program it's a great day to share holiday stories with people born 'Generations" before. Today, the Bronx Youth Empowerment Program spent time with the seniors at Workmen Circle, proving them with hugs and holiday cheer and songs.

This summer, we have traveled throughout the Bronx to honor a few of our departed brothers and sisters in an extraordinary way. We started with the street co-naming of Sandy E. Gresham, Reverend Dr. Simpson, Ms. Burmadine Hinds, my father Andy “Pops” King Jr., and ended with JW Smith. Their legacy will live on in our hearts and now their very own street. #wewillalwaysrememberyou
