Thanks for the shoutout @jlin7!!! Repost: /// "Had to up my fashion game for our must-win Game 3 to represent @31philliplim ! It was started by @therealphilliplim and Wen Zhou. If you know me well, you know I typically stay swaggin in sweats and sandals, but I also really admire people that design fire clothing. Phillip and Wen built a big international brand all while continuing to promote Asian representation and give back. When Alan began SAT tutoring with Apex three years ago, he saw that when it came to math, many students only completed the shorter equation problems and skipped the longer word problems. At first he thought they just didn't want to do their homework, but over time he realized that students were hindered by English language comprehension. Through tutoring classes, Alan's students receive the tutoring that they often don't get in school or at home. Over the course of the semester, their hard work pays off through improved scores and critical thinking skills. “Being able to help them understand a concept that they may not have understood before is really meaningful," Alan says. Will you help encourage Alan's students to conquer their learning challenges? Donation link in bio ☺️

Thanks to the support of donors like you, Meloney and her mentor, Emily, have both grown to be more positive about recognizing their potential. When Meloney first met Emily, they filled out a survey which asked, "Do you know someone who believes that you will succeed?" Meloney's response was: "No one." She claimed that, "No one really cares," and since then, Emily has been determined to let Meloney know that she believes in her. Through getting to know Meloney, whose parents are no longer in the picture, Emily realized that the support she received at home growing up was something she took for granted and wanted to share with Meloney. After over a year of goal setting and diligence, Meloney has improved on social skills and life skills, like sustaining interpersonal relationships and planning ahead for punctuality. One time Meloney surprised Emily with her positive attitude. When Meloney tried to get Emily to play basketball with her, Emily said she wasn’t very good and preferred to sit and watch. Later, when asked to reflect on their day, Meloney wrote, “I learned that Emily can have a lot of self-doubt about her own ability. I think she should try new things." Now, as a mentor, Emily always challenges herself to play basketball with Meloney. Will you help youth like Meloney learn to believe in themselves? Please donate (link in bio) and everyone who contributes by Dec. 31 will be entered to win Gala tickets!

Tommy joined Apex as a quiet 4th grader, and although he still considers himself "kinda shy" as a senior in high school, he has become more adventurous with the help of donors like you. 〰️ Over the past four years, Tommy's mentor, Alvin, has become like a brother to him, being there to talk about school, social life, college and more. Tommy has gained confidence to try things he never would have imagined he would do. 〰️ Now, Tommy is taking on his college applications and is making plans for his future. He's grateful for the guidance he's received at Apex. "I like the environment. They’re always there for you—they’ll reach out to you to see how you’re doing," he says, "You’re always welcome and if you have any questions or concerns you can always go to them." Will you encourage youth like Tommy to try new things, even if they seem intimidating? 〰️ Donate (link in bio) to enter a raffle for two Casino Night tickets—today's your last chance!

Thanks to you, Helen is teaching elementary school students how to become confident individuals. Eight years after she joined the Apex mentoring program, Helen now dedicates time in her busy life as a college student to teach students in the Apex after school program. 〰️ Helen's favorite part about teaching is seeing her students become more sure of themselves, the more they practice and work together. She has taught soccer, ukelele and math in her after school classes, and her goal is to be there to encourage her students. In her dance class right now, even the shyest of students, such as one boy who refused to dance at the start of the semester, comes around and gains the confidence to perform in front of an audience. 〰️ Will you help Helen's students grow into confident adults? 〰️ Please donate (link in bio)and everyone who contributes by this Friday will be entered to win two Casino Night tickets!

In past elections, Asian Americans have faced a series of barriers in exercising their right to vote, including segregated “Asian” voting lines.  When news media reported on election results, Asian Americans were overlooked.  In response, the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF) has conducted a non-partisan survey of Asian American voters to document Asian American voting patterns and document instances of anti-Asian voter disenfranchisement. AALDEF has monitored the elections for compliance with the federal Voting Rights Act – Section 203, which mandates bilingual ballots and forbids anti-Asian voter discrimination. ✔️ In the 2016 elections, 800 volunteers polled 13,846 Asian American voters in 14 states and Washington, DC. This year, we want to do the same. ✔️ We need your help to volunteer. Volunteers work in 3-hour shifts.  There will be a 60 minute training session for all volunteers in October (90 minute sessions for CLE trainings. You will receive 1.5 CLE credits – 1 credit for professional practice and 0.5 credit for ethics). ✔️ All volunteers must be non-partisan during the time that they help. Interested? Repost from @humansofny featuring one of our HS mentees. . . . “My dad came here when he was my age, but I don’t feel especially connected to Vietnam. I haven’t even really asked him about his history. I’m a proud person. But for me it’s about what I’m doing right now. I didn’t experience my father’s history. So I’d rather not identify as the son of a refugee. I’m an American kid going to an American school. I’d much rather see myself as an adjective. Preferably one that refers to my personality. Like ‘cool.’ Or ‘nice.’ Or ‘interesting.’” #hony #apexforyouth
