Haircuts on @iss are free, but you get what you pay for! With a standard hair-clipper and the help of a vacuum cleaner, any one of us can become a barber.

astrodrewmorgan

Getting a GRIP! This experiment studies how microgravity impacts our nervous system and movement control. This helps us understand effects to astronauts on long duration space missions and helps us understand disease processes of the nervous system.

astrodrewmorgan

As an assistant scoutmaster and a father of scouts, it was a pleasure to join the World Scout Jamboree from @iss. The #ScoutJamboree, much like Station, brings out the best of international cooperation and service for something bigger than ourselves!

astrodrewmorgan

Hello everyone! Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, and well wishes. The first few days on @iss have been so awesome. I’m learning to live & work in space, and while my training was outstanding, doing even simple tasks in microgravity puts a whole new spin on things. Here I am on one of my first visits to the “cupola,” our window to see the beautiful Earth.

astrodrewmorgan

‪The absolute hardest part: saying good-bye and watching them walk away.‬

astrodrewmorgan

The Apollo 11 moon landing is remembered as an accomplishment for all humankind and our international crew, launching to the International Space Station, is a beautiful symbol of how nations can cooperate in the mutual exploration of space. The crew of Expedition 60 is honored to pay tribute to this historical achievement and carry the torch for the next generation of space exploration. When we go, “we go together.” #apollo50 #apollo11 #expedition60 #soyuzms13

Last haircut on Earth...last run on Earth...until at least spring 2020!

astrodrewmorgan

‪Press conference earlier this week for crewmates Oleg Skripochka, @astro_jessica and UAE’s first astronaut @astro_hazzaa — we will welcome them aboard for #Expedition61 this fall! I especially look forward to their arrival since #SoyuzMS15 will be my ride home in Spring 2020!‬

astrodrewmorgan

‪OTD 50 years ago, #Apollo11 began a historic journey to the moon. In four days my crewmates and I will launch on our journey to the @iss . We are proud to follow their legacy of exploration! #Apollo50th #SoyuzMS13 #Expedition60‬

‪Every cosmonaut and astronaut launching on #Soyuz plants a tree at the quarantine facility in a memorial grove along the Syr Darya River in #Baikonur #Kazakhstan. I planted mine today, it’s just a little sapling. Compare mine to Yuri Gagarin’s tree!‬

astrodrewmorgan

‪8 days until launch and training continues in quarantine: here our commander, Alexander Skvortsov, is practicing to fly #SoyuzMS13 manually (vs automatically) in proximity to the space station, “rendezvous” with the @iss and prepare for docking.‬

astrodrewmorgan

‪“Astronauts are masters of complexity.” @AstroMCollins passed this invaluable wisdom to me and friend and classmate @VicGlover in #Apollo50th era Mission Control at our 2015 #astronaut reunion. He was right! We get to learn a little about a lot, AND a lot about a lot! #TBT‬

Here at @gctc_official the lush green and perfect warmth is such a contrast from the blanket of white and piercing cold of six months ago. They are both so beautiful, I can’t choose my favorite time of year here!

AstroDrewMorgan

‪Exactly one month until we launch to @iss on the #Apollo50th anniversary of the #Apollo11 moon landing. We have exams to study for and personal business to attend to, but I’m taking time to learn from the history-making crew: Mike Collins, Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong.

AstroDrewMorgan

‪My crew visited Mission Control-Moscow to learn more about our flight plan. Luca waves next to a fantastic mosaic of the Russian space hero trinity: Tsiolkovsky (father of rocket theory), Gagarin (first human in space), and Korolev (chief designer of early Soviet rockets).‬. Luca is a space hero in Italy!

AstroDrewMorgan

‪It’s Friday and Luca and I just finished a fun @iss emergency simulation with crewmates @astro_jessica and UAE’s first astro @astro_hazzaa who will join us this fall. Posing in front of this great Star City statue... next time we’re together will be on #ISS! ‬

‪Ending a bittersweet final training trip to Tsukuba, Japan during the beautiful cherry blossom season. Thank you, @jaxajp team for the outstanding training and hospitality (@astro.soichi too!). Luca and I will take great care of Kibo, Japanese Experimental Module #ISS

astrodrewmorgan

‪Back in Japan with Soichi Noguchi and Luca Parmitano for our last training trip here @jaxajp before Soyuz (59S) MS-13 launch.‬

astrodrewmorgan

We apply virtual reality to several types of spaceflight training. Here I am practicing to “fly” the Simplified Aid For EVA Rescue or SAFER... a jet pack-like device we can use to rescue ourselves back to the ISS in the unlikely event the cable tethering us to the airlock fails during a #spacewalk. Never plan on needing it, but we always train for the worst possible scenario! #Expedition60 #armyinspace

‪#TBT Just about a year ago, Luca Parmitano, Alexandr Skvortsov and I completed winter survival training at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Star City, Russia @gctc_official. Here we are simulating an injured crew member after landing. Lucky for us, search and rescue forces are top-notch!‬

astrodrewmorgan

My prior experience with clinical applications of #ultrasound will come in handy on the #ISS as a tool both for studying the effects of microgravity on the body and a medical diagnostic instrument. Here my crewmate Luca and I are working together to scan blood vessels in my neck for an experiment studying how body fluids shift in space!

astrodrewmorgan

‪My #astronaut class, the “8-balls” makes time to stay connected with the newest class of astronauts, the “Turtles,” when training allows. Here Canadian @canadianspaceagency @astro_kutryk prepares for one of his 9 qualifying spacewalk runs, each 6 hours underwater! Go Josh! @nasajohnson

‪Yesterday I practiced maintaining and wearing an actual flight-certified spacesuit in a vacuum chamber. Here I am during the 4-hour oxygen pre-breathe watching “From the Earth to the Moon” through a porthole in the chamber. Reviewing my #Apollo50th history! #Expedition60‬

astrodrewmorgan

‪Michelle and Grace are part of the extensive team training me to conduct scientific experiments during #Expedition60 #ISS. This funny device on my head indirectly measures pressure around my brain through my ear canal to understand how body fluids shift as a result of microgravity!‬
