Smooth rocks and deep blue waters will surround you when meandering through this horseshoe-shaped Greek island. Built around a volcanic caldera and known as the birthplace of the Louvre’s "Venus de Milo" statue, Milos should be more than a pitstop on anyone’s Grecian adventure. The highest mountain in Germany is suddenly surrounded by lush greenery when reflected on the surface of the pristine Eibsee lake in Bavaria. Reminiscent of watercolor strokes, this view has inspired as many abstract nature paintings as it has Instagram likes. After a bit of daydreaming as you look out on the water, venture up Zugspitze mountain to find one of the three glaciers that call the mountain home. (📷: @bantko 📍: Eibsee, Bayern, Germany)

beautifuldestinations

Let’s go where the turf meets the surf, a la Bing Crosby, in San Diego. It’s actually illegal to swim in any of the lakes in the city, but that’s okay — the shoreline extends 70 miles and harnesses the unlimited potential for adventure. (📷: @alec_basanec 📍: San Diego, California)

beautifuldestinations

Cotton candy reflections in Ibiza, only a two-and-a-half-hour flight from London and one of the best places to rave and rejuvenate in the world. The settlers of Ibiza, pronounced ‘evissa,’ dedicated the island to Bez — the god of music and dance. Head there to dance until the sunrise reflects off the Mediterranean Sea. (📷: @dorpell 📍: Ibiza, Spain)

beautifuldestinations

Elephants are incredible creatures — gentle, intelligent, emotive. @donalboyd spent some time in Zimbabwe with @actionifaw and @zen_wildislife documenting the rewilding of six rescued elephants from a nursery in the capital of Harare to the Panda Masuie Forest Reserve near Victoria Falls. “The actual move of these elephants involved a 16-hour journey from start to finish and was the culmination of hundreds of hours of planning by countless key players and wildlife professionals. These six elephants will now finally have the opportunity to interact with wild herds in this crucial conservation area, as they live alongside their handlers for support and protection until they’re ready to be fully independent.” (📷: @donalboyd📍: Zimbabwe)

beautifuldestinations

An ethereal sunset at White Sands — the best time to see the sea of sand spread out through the Tularosa Basin. Don’t forget your sunglasses, as the sand really is dazzlingly white. (📷: @jamieout 📍: White Sands National Monument, New Mexico)

beautifuldestinations

It looks like it’s rush hour for the sheep of Iceland — no illegal ewe-turns! The un-baa-lievable landscape is host to much exciting wildlife, like seals, Arctic foxes, and whales. For those who love strange birds, near the Bjargtangar Lighthouse are the famous Látrabjarg bird cliffs, where nesting seabirds — puffins, guillemots, razorbills, fulmars, kittiwakes — make their home from June to mid-August. (📷: @icelandic_explorer 📍: Iceland)

beautifuldestinations

In 1983, a shipping vessel known as the Panagiotis crashed on the scenic shores of Navagio Beach, purportedly attempting to smuggle illegal contraband — from then on, it has also been called “Shipwreck Beach” and “Smuggler’s Cove.” Called by the siren song of the deteriorating ship and drawn towards its seclusion, hundreds of vacationers at a time flock to the beach for a view. The city of Havana is quite the stunner, but perhaps even more so in the rain. The city’s audacious atmosphere offers a lively art scene, plenty of places to salsa, and 500 years of history to explore. (📷: @cglrsrkc 📍: Havana, Cuba)

Watch in awe as the rushing waters of Salto El Limón plunge into the clear emerald pools below — but you have to get there, first. Nestled deep in the hills and hidden by lush green forests, no real roads lead to what is considered one of Dominican Republic's ( @GoDomRep) most colorful attractions, but this simply means that getting there will be that much more exciting. A hike or horseback ride through the surrounding forests allows visitors to discover the area's native plants and animals, such as the ubiquitous royal palm tree that the country's national bird, the palmchat, calls home. Once you've arrived, cool off from the journey with a dip in El Limón waterfall's refreshing waters while taking in the wild landscape and gushing sounds of the falls. Check out the hashtag #BDxDR to see some of the most beautiful destinations Dominican Republic has to offer!

The Durdle Door, named for an old English word meaning to bore or drill, is a landmark that is a joy to say and to gander. Sheep graze comfortably at low tide with a fading Mont Saint Michel in the distance — just 600 meters off the coast of Lower Normandy, this little commune is one of the most visited cultural sites in France. If you have the chance to visit, make sure to try a traditional soufflé-omelet at La Mere Poulard, created in the mid-19th century to entice visitors to the island to stick around to eat as the tide rose. Beautifuldestinations

The Rakotzbrücke Bridge is one of those humanmade landmarks that makes you feel like mythical creatures exist and there's a troll hiding underneath; perhaps that's why Game of Thrones decided to feature the bridge in its seventh series. Built of a variety of local stone, it's known as a "devil's bridge" due to its precarious, miraculous structure. It was designed in a perfect half-circle so that when the waters are still, the reflection forms a full circle. (📷: @josh.perrett 📍: Rakotzbrücke, Germany)

The stately dome of the Berlin Cathedral, or Berliner Dom, peeks out through the trees. Seeing double on the West Coast in New Zealand, where solitude is so, so sweet. Though it makes up nine percent of the country's land mass, it only houses one percent of its population, and most of its inner realms require a boat, helicopter ride, or trail to reach. Kiwis have a word for the recreational wandering common on the West Coast — tramping — and often trek for weeks at a time. (📷: @jasoncharleshill 📍: West Coast, New Zealand)

beautifuldestinations

New York City fades into last light, as seen from the Brooklyn Bridge. Every day the bridge carries 125,000 motor vehicles, 4,000 pedestrians, and 2,600 cyclists — but once, it only carried Emily Warren Roebling and a chicken. After her husband became sick during the construction of the bridge, Emily became the de facto chief engineer, and eventually was recognized as the driving force behind the bridge's completion. She was the first human across the bridge, and sitting in her lap in her carriage was a rooster, a symbol of good luck. (📷: @marianasotiriou 📍: New York, New York)

Purple fading light over the 21 miles of scenic beauty that is Malibu, a city initially settled by the Chumash people, whose territory extended from the San Joaquin Valley to San Luis Obispo to Malibu, including several islands off the southern coast of California. They named the region "Humaliwo," meaning "the surf sounds loudly," — the "hu" syllable isn't stressed, leading to the current iteration of the city's name. (📷: @witness 📍: Malibu, California)

@kpunkka catches a 3 a.m. sunrise in a Central Finland forest. The dense forests and broad rivers of Finland have always bred mysticism, including stories of Tapio and his wife Mielikki, god and goddess of the woods, who hunters and farmers pray to in hopes of more game and protected livestock. Bears also play an important role in Finnish mythology — the Otso, or Kings of the Forest, are bear spirits, treated as highly intelligent and divine. At the height of the "bear cult," if a bear passed away, a ceremony was performed during which its skull was left in a sacred clearing with sacrificial gifts. (📷: @kpunkka 📍: Central Finland)
