Fashion week is on it’s way! Throwing it back to my last Spring Runway show and some of favorite shots by @serichai ❤️ I’m in the final stages of finishing up the show, comment below what you’re wanting to see on the runway, your ideas help me when I get mentally blocked! ❤️❤️❤️

BrandonMaxwell

Wow! Thank you so much to @fginyc, I’m so honored to be included, especially amongst such a revered group of designers I deeply respect. I certainly feel unworthy and will most likely want to hide under the table when this night comes, but The Fashion Group International and it’s local chapters have always been incredibly supportive of me and my team from day one, and I’m truly thrilled, grateful, and appreciative that they thought of us. In our first year of business we were awarded the Rising Star award, which, in a little twist of fate, was given to me by my now dear friend and colleague, @ninagarcia. In the 3 years since life that day, I’ve experienced as many terrifying moments as I have beautiful ones, and it’s moments like these that leave me with nothing but a deep sense of gratitude for every little mountain we’ve had to climb and an eternal respect and admiration for all the people along the way who have helped us to stay on the path. ❤️

ME after a whole summer of telling myself I don’t deserve time off and listening to people who have just come back from vacation before fashion week and start telling me about all the great food they ate and the cool stuff they did with their friends.....

Please believe me when I tell you that I was having the worst day ever on my way in to the office today. It’s down to a couple weeks before fashion week, the collection is being finished, and these are the moments when the nerves mount, our tiredness grows, and we lean in to second guessing ourselves. Probably the two things I’ve struggled with most in my life are self confidence and a burning desire to please those around me in lieu of myself. No review or critique is able to sting me as much as I am able to sting myself when I know that I haven’t given it what I could, and nothing has historically pained me more than when I feel I haven’t made someone who has give so much, proud. This year however, has been a lesson in becoming a fully formed adult. Many around me will probably look at 2019 as the year that defined so many things in my career, but I will always look at 2019 as the year I struggled the most, but came out alive. Everyone loves to talk about the big moments, the ones with glory and fanfare, but no one wants to talk about the big moments behind the smoke and mirrors, the ones where you’re on your knees just praying please god don’t take this from me. Whether that’s a loved one, a sense of strength, or a career. There were days when I thought I couldn’t get up, there were moments that I thought it was all over, and there were out of this world beautiful moments too. But most of all there were too many moments to count when I had to just fight like hell to keep it all together, and those are the moments that now in retrospect I wouldn’t take back. I walked in to the office today to find this delivery, and it put a smile on my face. I sat in my office alone just looking at it, thinking of it not as a win, but as a physical representation of my survival. With a grateful heart I say thank you again to every single person who has showed up for me, who has filled me with love and passion when I couldn’t find it, and who just believed that I could. Because they did, we have. Here’s to any person today fighting that same fight, going down the road towards something they love and believe in, I’m here to tell you to keep going and that it’s worth it. ❤️

Today is a very special day! It’s the birthday of my work wife and partner in fun, @karliekloss! Few people in this life and industry have actually inspired me equally as much from up close as they first did from afar. From the moment I first met her as a stylist assistant armed with a fanny pack and a bucket of dreams, to now sitting next to her every day at work, and every single moment in between, she has been grace and poise personified, she has been true friendship realized, she has defined what it means to live a life with both passion and purpose, she has been a radiating star that has shone on me in my darkest moments, and she has embodied the morals and values that at its core fashion is meant to stand for. She can make you giddy with just one prance down the catwalk, she can inspire you to reach higher with just one turn in front of the camera, and she can invigorate you to think bigger with the tireless work she puts in to making sure young girls everywhere have a brighter future because they’re driving their own destiny. I’ve shared so many special moments with Karlie in this life, ones that have been photographed and documented, but most importantly, ones that have not, and those have meant the most. A midnight phone call, a night at home to say nothing and everything at the same time, a dinner just when you need to be with someone; and they all always start out the same way, with a warm hug and that Classic Karlie line, “How you doin, B?” A true supermodel, in my opinion, is someone who possesses a type of beauty that words cannot explain. That special intoxicating elixir of glamour, joy, and warmth. Karlie, you are all these things and more. I’m so blessed to have shared so many defining life moments with you, and I am all the better because of it. Happy Birthday to you, may your day be filled with the type of love and kindness that you have spent a lifetime so selflessly giving to others. I love you! ❤️

You may not need it, but I just wanted to send you this reminder tonight that you are strong, and that you can. So many mornings I wake up and feel like I’m on the most turbulent airplane ride, just gripping the armrest and closing my eyes waiting to rise above the clouds and in to the clear blue sky, counting every second until I hear that ding letting me know the seatbelt sign is off and the road ahead is bump free. Too big, too dense, not relevant enough, fading, unlovable. They’re all the things that run through the mind before I splash that water on my face and remind myself that I’ve done some things in my life and that I am worthy of love even when my better instincts tell me that I am not. No matter what you’re seeing online, what you’re seeing in magazines, what you’re watching on TV, don’t lose yourself in it and forget to remember that we’re all just people going through it, and that no one has it easier than the other. Each one of us wakes up every morning meeting the occasion to find the strength within ourselves to put two feet on the floor when the sun rises, to set out in to a day that challenges us, forces us to face ourselves, our demons, our insecurities, our shortcomings, and finally, our strengths. What defines you today, tomorrow, and forever, is not what you didn’t do right, what success you didn’t achieve, how much money you didn’t or didn’t make, how many likes you did or didn’t get. What defines you is how you made others feel, your empathy for a life that you have not lived, an emotion you have not experienced, and most importantly how you compose yourself and conduct yourself in this manner after you have had to rise above during the bumpiest ride of your life. Wake up tomorrow morning with a fire in your belly, no matter what you’re going through, no matter who doesn’t believe in you, who doesn’t believe that you’ll ever be anything, and love yourself like Dolly. Look straight in to the mirror, hairspray that hair, put on that perfume, and blow yourself a kiss, because you are the ONE. No one will make you feel any way that you do no not deserve to feel tomorrow if you don’t let them. REMEMBER. THAT. ❤️

A little over a year ago me and the team moved to Marfa, Texas for a month long residency (you can watch the film of that experience on IGTV.) Taking that time for myself to zone out, step away, reset, and refocus was crucial for my spirit at a time in my life when I was down and out. My experience living and creating in this place not only afforded me so many beautiful opportunities that followed, but it forced me to re-shift the way I approached my life and my work. There’s a whole vast world and landscape outside of the insular worlds we function in day to day and realizing that I’m just a tiny little thing in the larger scheme of a much bigger picture was not only humbling, but beautiful and relieving. This week I’m back in town working on a special project, getting to see familiar faces, and once again smelling the air and taking in the sunsets and stars that helped to make me who I am. I’m so grateful to the kind people in this special town who have reached out a hand, opened their hearts, homes, and spaces, and given so much to us yet again. Thank you ❤️ 📸: @jessica_o_

Would you guys believe me if I said this is how I walked in to work every morning? Lolz don’t, because this pic took a stylist, two hair and makeup, double spanx, major flash, and a retouching, just to make me look.....normal? And who has time for that every day?! Also, I’m off to work this morning in Nike shorts, a Britney Spears T-shirt, mis-matched socks, and I’m probably going to have to drink my coffee out of a wine glass because it’s dish day and sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do, you know? However you look walking in to work this morning, whatever it took to get you out the door, let it go, just celebrate the fact that you got there on time with your sanity in place!

Most Dads in the south grow up with the hopes and dreams that their son will be the next World Series or Super Bowl star, the Friday night lights dream, the small town boy done good, in an arena everyone can relate to. Growing up in the South I was, you might say, a little different than the other kids. At my very first baseball game I sat down in the outfield and made a bouquet of the flowers I had picked from the grass. In the 1st grade I came home and said I was thinking about creating plays and musicals. In the 5th grade after I discovered my love of rollerblades, I briefly pursued a career as a figure skater. I decided in 6th grade I was going to be the next gold medal winning gymnast. In 8th grade when I discovered fried food and my gymnast body failed me, I fell in love with taking photographs. After many years of art programs, dyed hair, and a few piercings, I graduated college with a degree in photography and promptly moved to NY to pursue a career in fashion. Through each phase, my Dad the Southern football player in cowboy boots and wranglers, met the moment and seized the opportunity to help me feel seen, never making me feel that my little dreams had squashed his own. Front row with a smile at every musical, hanging out on the sidelines clapping at every event, and framing every little achievement above almost every toilet in our house. Now at 34, the same Dad, in his wranglers and cowboy hat, runs my business. A business where we sell gowns and glamour, a business where we sell dreams. A job I am able to do solely because he allowed me to fully realize my own. I wake up each morning realizing how fortunate I am to have a parent who created a space for me to live authentically, proudly, and without shame. A parent who even in the worst of times, continues to steadily drive the car with the primary focus on making sure I am fulfilled, loved, and safe. Loving a child in their most formative years is, to me, the most important, and I realize how blessed I am to have had that. Happy Fathers Day to my dad, and to all the other men who step in to this role every day and help to change someone’s life. It’s not easy and we appreciate you. I ❤️ U, Dad!

It takes a village, y’all! That’s a wrap on season 1 of @projectrunwaybravo, season 2 here we come! Thank you to every single person who combs my hair, blots my face, holds a fan, aggressively pulls my Spanx over my head, and wipes crumbs off my shirt because I can’t stop eating in between takes (evidence in 2nd video.) It was a journey, and one I’m proud to have gone on! Seeing yourself on camera for the first time is ILLUMINATING to say the least, and I went through a lot of mental ups and downs getting used to my place there so thank you to the network, producers, and @karliekloss @ninagarcia @elainewelteroth @csiriano for being such great friends and holding my hand. Congratulations to the winner @iamsebastiangrey, I know you will do great things and we are here for you every step of the way. ❤️

brandonmaxwell

This is me with the first dress I designed for my first collection, shot for my first profile in @nytimesfashion. I think about this person a lot. I remember seeing this picture for the first time and criticizing how bad I thought I looked, agonizing over how chubby I thought I was, embarrassed at how little and unglamorous my studio was, and consumed with how loud I felt people might laugh when they saw this dress. This profile ran the day of my first fashion show, and as I scoured over every word in print in preparation for my debut moment later that evening, all I could think was; Is it even possible for someone like me to succeed in the world I’ve always dreamed of? When I look at this photo now I think, yes maybe I could have worn a different shirt, but I wasn’t chubby, my studio WAS small but it was filled with love and beautiful memories, and no one laughed (at least not directly to my face!) Most importantly, I see a person who hadn’t yet failed in a way that brings you to your knees and illuminates the cold reality that external features and material things actually matter very little if what’s on the inside isn’t sitting right. I see a person that didn’t yet know that acceptance in to a large group of people isn’t nearly as important as the acceptance you give yourself. I see a young, naive person that was worrying about all the wrong things, for all the wrong reasons. The person I looked at in the mirror this morning looks very different than the one in the photo, and in a world and industry where beauty is the standard that could worry me, but it doesn’t. I could obsess now, when I’m in pictures more than ever, about my stomach rolls, grayer (much more brittle!) hair, sun spots and crows feet, but the difference now is that each one of those signs of age is laced with a lesson that made me stronger. I wish I could go back to that person in the photo and explain that it won’t always be beautiful, but that it will be alright. I’m far from perfect but recognizing our growth is essential. I hope you find a picture of yourself tonight and are able to recognize your own. I owe a great deal of thanks to so many of you for holding my hand down the path. ❤️

This is special for me for many personal reasons. Not least among them is that when we began my mom’s breast cancer journey this year Grace Elizabeth was one of the very first people to ring me up and offer any support she could, always checking in and sending a note or a flower to make the days a little brighter, and you never forget something like that. Always proud to dress her, especially for this specific event which means so much, but more importantly proud to know her. 💕

Happy Mother’s Day to my original supermodel, the woman who has defined beauty and grace for me since my first breath, the woman whose zest for life and love for her children is unparalleled, and the woman who has always embodied the idea that beauty is as beauty does. It’s been quite a year, and I think about this photo a lot, taken a day or two before so many things changed. On this day, as you bounced through the streets of New York you looked as beautiful as ever, filled with joy, and it has struck me so much this year that that joy and happiness never left you as you rose to meet the challenges you faced. It’s how I’ve always seen you, and how I always will, because you allow us to see nothing else. We went on quite a rollercoaster this year, and I’m so grateful we’re on the other side. I’m so blessed to call you mom, to be wrapped in your love. Thank you for the life you’ve given me, Mom. I love you deeply! ❤️

brandonmaxwell

I promise this will be my last #metgala post! But first, I wanted to take a minute to talk about friendship. 10 years ago on the night of the Met Gala I entered through a back door, bags in hand, and helped my friend @ladygaga change in to her performance outfit for her first Met Gala, where she would sing all her hits and dazzle the fashion crowd. 10 years later I walked in the front door hand in hand with her, having had the opportunity to design 4 outfits for her. In between these two nights, which were both momentous for me, a long and wondrous relationship has both sustained me and propelled me to believe I could walk through any door, so long as I did it with integrity and hard work. The world sees the moments on a carpet, the moments on stage, but I’ve been fortunate enough to see the moments behind the curtain that truly define what makes a star a star. There has never been a moment in our friendship where I did not feel that I was supported, that I did not feel that my best interests were put first, where I did not feel anything other than complete love and respect. She has pushed me to be better, to do better, and to achieve my dreams farther than I even could have imagined them to go. We were once two kids that had crazy dreams, a love for the performance and the show, a respect for the craft and those that came before, and now we are two adults who have held hands through many storms, and come out smiling on the other side. Friendship and loyalty are important, especially in our industries, and I’m so blessed to have been witness to the greatest example. Love your friends for who they are, and where they are, ride the ride together, be proud, because no success is worth it without the ones you love. Thank you all so much for your love and kindness this week, grateful would not be a strong enough word for how I truly feel. We had so much fun!

Thank you @wwd!

To @marlaweinhoff for always bringing every dream to life, and to every single member of my team who worked tireless hours with so much love to help bring this dream to life, team members, pattern makers, seamstresses, you’re the real stars of the Met Gala. And mostly to @wonderfulboy for always telling me that the dreams I dream are valid and reachable, it’s because of you that I try. One of my favorite runway moments of ours of all time. @lilyaldridge on the Spring/Summer 2019 runway, 6 months pregnant, and glowing. Prior to this moment I had loved Lily from afar for so long. I had of course seen her at many social engagements over the years but contrary to what I seem on social media I’m actually very shy about talking to people, especially the beautiful people I’ve seen on TV or in magazines more than I have in person, so I never said hello. One night at a mutual friend’s birthday party we were both some of the first to arrive and after 3 wines I sheepishly said hello and was shocked to find out that she knew who I was. Then and there we became friends. We exchanged numbers and many months later I asked her to walk the runway at my upcoming show, knowing that she was expecting a baby and probably too busy to say yes. To my deep surprise, she immediately responded yes. In the time since, she has consistently been a woman who has showed up, and showed out, publicly and privately, for moments personal and professional. She is one of the rare people who has traveled on her own from afar when there was nothing to gain, supported when she didn’t have to, and made everyone in her orbit, on my team, and in my family feel seen, important, and thanked in the process. This industry can be fickle, people can be disappointing, it can sometimes be a struggle to find what’s truly real, but moments like these pop up in my head when I’m having a day where I’m struggling, and they remind me that there is good, and how grateful I am to have been witness to it. I’ll always look back at this moment and reflect on how truly fashionable it was, not because of the dress or the makeup, but because love and giving never go out of style. A woman in the middle of one of the most important moments of her life came to help tell my story, and on this special night I got to experience what it feels like to be truly loved by her, as her children do, and it represented so much of how I feel about my own mom. This moment defined that night for me, because that collection was about home, it was about what made me, and where I came from. Love always to Lily ❤️

9 years ago I accepted my first big job as a stylist assistant, a total dream. My job was to help dress Karlie Kloss for her first Christian Dior advertising campaign, shot by the one and only Steven Meisel. 9 years later we are the dearest of friends and starring on a TV show together. Life works in the strangest of ways if you’re open for the journey. Hard work has surely been an important element in my story but almost nothing has been as important as my love with @wonderfulboy. He has loved me every day with a smile, through the successes and most importantly through the massive failures. I’m so proud to have him guest star on our show tonight as I let the final ten contestants in to my world. Tune in to @projectrunwaybravo at 9/8c on @bravotv.
