Not having fun at all. 😌 Yep - just another day in the office ... Them Poor Gals .. sorry - KINGS DAUGHTERSS @kingsdaughterss are here (actually at Roger’s delightful gaff, because we’re recording drums). It’s MAJOR fun - a tonic for me - can’t wait to release this happy song to the world. Bri

A new production model guitar - so close to ‘in production’ now. The ‘ARIELLE’. Exciting day ! Lots of other stuff to talk about ... but .. later. Have a good day folks - Bri so which is the original and which is the new prototype ? (bear in mind the scratch plate is not yet right ) Bri swipe for 3-D versions.

So this is work !!! A fitting today for my new stage gear. Don’t worry - this isn’t giving too much away ! @kimberleymegankm (you see here) is making something truly amazing that we’ve been designing together. For our completely new touring show. We’ve been planning and conferencing on it for 5 months now. Next week we’re in music rehearsals in London. Week after we’re in LA for full production rehearsals. Then ... we’re off ! Ouch ! Look out !! 💥💥💥💥💥 ANY SPECIAL SONG REQUESTS ? Any other requests ? Oh Lord ... am I asking for trouble ?!! Ah —- and just in case you extremists who tried to ambush me on the Bohemian Rhapsody posts are still out there ... if you insult me or my friends, WE WILL BLOCK YOU !!! Got it ?! Cheers folks ! 😂 💥💥💥💥💥 final thoughts - prompted by a message from someone called Alyssa : Look - I’m not going to block you or delete your comment, because you have a valid point. But I have the right to make my own decisions about what I want to allow on my own IG page. I’ve listened to everybody’s point of view, and I’ve patiently answered many, but life is too short to dwell on negatives when there are a million positives to appreciate. I don’t like doing it, but I will continue to delete and block anything that I consider purely negative or simply unhelpful. There are are plenty of places people can vent their unappreciative opinions - just not on my site. Sorry, guys, neither I nor the vast majority of my pals want to have to waste any more time on this. No work of art can please everybody. There will always be some who don’t like it. The vast majority of people who saw Bohemian Rhapsody loved it and got some lasting inspiration from it. So a very small minority of people didn’t like it. That’s fine. But we all heard it now. And I have more important things to do than argue with people when nothing will be achieved by it. End of !! Bri

ZANZIBAR. Freddie’s birthplace. Finally. The hospital where Farouk was born to Jer and Bomi Bulsara on the 5th September 1946. And later his sister Kashmira in the same place. It was a thrill for me to find it. 💥💥💥💥So did we do our friend justice in the recent movie we ‘uncled’ ? Some of the comments on my previous post about the ‘accuracy’ of the Bohemian Rhapsody film make me realise that many people don’t understand what ‘accurate’ means in the context of a biopic - rather than a documentary. Stop and think about it. You’re trying to portray 20 years in two hours of screen time. And you have a story you want to tell about the emotional and spiritual journey of a man in the context of his family and friends, and his entire life’s work. You want to tell the story honestly, decently, without avoiding any important issues, yet without gratuitous prurient detail. You want it to make sense to people of all races, colours, sexual proclivities and ages. And, crucially, you want it to be entertaining, emotionally inspiring, or else why bother ?! Think about the vast amount of situations and millions of words actually spoken in that 20 years. There is no way to do tell your story without compressing time scales, moving events around, condensing multiple conversations over years into single scenes, amalgamating characters, and basically LEAVING 99.9 per cent of what actually happened OUT !!! A few armchair critics think, by comparing the film’s narrative with scraps that they’ve picked up from press stories, unauthorised biographies, etc, that they see ‘mistakes’ ? I can assure you all that not a single, word, action, emotion in Bohemian Rhapsody is there by accident, or for any other reason than to provide an insight, a clue to the big picture, a brush stroke in a coherent portrait of a man and his life and dreams. The fact that this movie has become by far the most successful biopic in history tells me that we - or actually the whole BR team - on the whole - got it right. 💥💥💥💥 Thanks for the overwhelming support so many of you folks have given me on this - I’m very touched. I have great pals. OK pals - we’ve all said our bit - shall we move on ? 😊 Bri

brianmayforreal

Great movies on this plane ! 😊 “Bohemian Rhapsody”, eh ?! I had to take a look at it - to check out how much our movie had been ‘expurgated’ for showing on Oman Air. Yep - they sure hacked away it - no kissing, no ‘bollocks’, and Freddie wasn’t even allowed to quite get to the point of ‘confessing’ to Mary - though it was pretty clear what the scene was about. By the end I really did feel that a lot of the film’s message was lost. Which made me sad. But then again, a lot of the good stuff DID come across even in this version. And - you know - it’s easy to get all superior and disapproving about this stuff - but it wasn’t so long ago that The Rolling Stones were only allowed to perform on the USA’s Ed Sullivan Show if they changed “Let’s Spend the Night Together” to “Let’s Spend Some Time Together” !! Don’t believe me ? Check it out on YouTube ! Maybe we’re not so liberal and progressive as we think we are ! Or maybe, for every nation, it takes time and tolerance and ... compromise ? To get to a good place. One of the things I’ve learned from animal campaigning is that shouting doesn’t always get you what you want. Bri 💥💥💥💥Thanks folks - I’ve enjoyed reading your comments. I don’t usually have time - but today I’m a captive audience and - I’ve learned a thing or two from this. Take care out there. We SHALL overcome. Bri

A last special treat from our hosts ... lunch for two on the beach ! Farewell to Zanzibar from these intrepid explorers !!! Thank you, kind and beautiful people of this amazing island. You made us feel so at home. #Zanzibar #Baraza We will miss you. Bri

We’ve enjoyed spending the day with this little boy in our minds. A small boy with big dreams. A young man who became a brother to Roger and John and me for 22 years. A shy boy with whom we shared an impossible vision of making music that would change the world. Little did we dare to believe it would actually happen. I’m happy that through Instagram I’ve been able to share some of the experiences of today. I’ll post some more pics and stuff when I get sorted. Meanwhile ... Asante Sana Freddie. Cheers folks. And thanks @freddiemercuryb for this lovely pic I don’t recall seeing before. Bri

brianmayforreal

At Freddie’s school. Under guidance from Freddie’s lovely sister Kashmira, and Abdul, our excellent Zanzibarian guide, we managed to retrace many of Freddie’s childhood steps. This something I dreamed of doing for many years. Nice to share with you folks. Bri

ZANZIBAR !!! Stone Town. This is the building where Freddie and his sister Kashmira lived when they were young. A pilgrimage !!! Bri

ASTRONOMY - Special Moon Landing Edition ! As we draw closer to 20th July, we’re becoming more and more conscious of those brave and brilliant men, Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins, who put Humanity’s foot for the first time on another world - amazingly - 50 years ago. @eicher.david - supervising editor of ASTRONOMY Magazine - has made sure everything you need to celebrate is here ! Beauty !! Harmony !! Destiny !!! This was my first Bride-on-Bride Jewish wedding ! And I have to say it was one of the most joyous nuptials I’ve ever experienced. To see the flame of love in the eyes of these two girls, and the warm and wholehearted support of both their families in this celebration of a union between two souls was awesome. And to be part of this beautiful coming together made it seem unthinkable that in any place on this planet it should be impossible for such a marriage of love to be accepted. In a world where it seems to me so much is going so wrong, it was wonderful to see something which is going so right. Wishing you all the happiness in the world, my dear friend Nicole, and your lovely bride Einav. @nicoleettinger 💥💥😊💥. Yes ! They did the breaking bottle thing ! And the ‘being lifted up on chairs’ thing ! But just to see them sweep on to the dance floor in matching white chiffon for the first dance was a moment to treasure. Not a dry eye in the house ! #pride #truelove #brideandbride #🌈 — and I nearly forgot ! Mazel Tov !!! Bri

Whose Old Lady is this ?!! Mine !!! Anita opens in Fiddler On The Roof at the Playhouse Theatre, London, on the 18th June ! She takes over the role of Yenta - the matchmaker in the village Anatevka, where this deeply moving story is set. Yes, it’s a musical, and there is warmth and joy and song. But the tragedy that befalls the honest folk of this village feels so real in this production by Trevor Nunn, well, you’d better take your handkerchief. It’s a killer. Bri

Good Morning folks ! I am a new man ! Yesterday smashed my #blues to bits ! So here’s one more pic from yesterday - taken by DENIS DENIS (he’s always referred to in stereo these days) with his new experimental double Canon stereo rig. What do you think ? I thought I’d hit you with the cross-eyed view first, this time. Those of you who prefer parallel viewing (like me), or use a stereoscope, please swipe once. Another swipe will take you to the Mono (flat) view, and the last picture Shows that this book is even more special than usual! Yes, it’s the Korean edition of Queen in 3-D, due to be published in a couple of months time. I’m very excited. That’s a first for me. Many thanks for my new favourite shirt Lynn Nakayama ! Today I have donned something perhaps equally arresting ! May today bring you new dreams !! Bri

What a great song to have at Number 1 ! Reminding us all of the terrible price many of our dads and grandads and great grandads paid for the freedom from tyranny that we all enjoy today. Search for the SHORES OF NORMANDY on YouTube - written and sung by Jim Radford - who is 90 years old - a veteran of D-Day 70 years ago. The bravery and sacrifice of these young men deserves to live in all our hearts forever. Respects. Bri

My next job of the day ! This has become a weekly recreation down here in Red Special Land. SIGNING outgoing BMG guitars, which you folks kindly purchased on the last tour. Some of them get a special dedication !!! Now who would like this one ? !!! Bri

brianmayforreal

Beauty ! Talent !! Magic !!! And some ‘ol guitar player ... it’s a day to be be grateful ! 💥💥💥💥 We are thinking it might be time to get those wheels turning again. @kerryellis79 . The studio is calling. Ya think ? Did you miss us ? Bri

One more day in Parliament. Picture 1 shows Anne, my gallant fellow SAVE-ME crusader, and myself in Parliament Square, then swipe for a slightly more sensible pic of me in PCH with Tracey Crouch, Conservative MP and fearless animal advocate, then meeting Jo Swinson, who just might soon be leader of the Lib Dems, who also is committed to ending the badger cull, in favour of a policy which is humane and actually works. Notice we are civil with decent MP’s of ALL parliamentary parties ! The rest needs no words. We SHALL overcome. Bri

Bold as Brass !!! The KING’S DAUGHTERSS paid me a visit again today, this time with ace brass players Lily and Yasmin - wow !!! We are funky hot !! Ha ha ! @YasminOgilvie @LilyCarassik @apexhornes @TaliaDean @isabel.Karamell @kingsdaughterss I’m so itching to let this Jolly track out of the bag ! But we must wait till the pudding is properly cooked. Gotta say a Studio Day like this is the best medicine. It will keep the blues outside the door (unless you invite them in, of course!). I don’t know many things that can do this. I’m grateful. And I’m convinced this is a massive hit !! Bri

brianmayforreal

Thank you Narin. You came such a long way for this act of kindness - and I know no other way to thank you. See you in Korea !!! Bri

A smiler. Glad somebody’s still got a sense of humour. Bri

I’m enchanted by rhododendrons. Blown away. This year I’m grateful to be not on tour while they present their magnificent blooms - each one an arrangement of many florets, every one waving their stamens and desporting their coloured ‘throats’, and offering perfumed pollen - all to invite those bees to visit and pollinate them. Swipe to see mono, then parallel stereo, then cross-eyed stereo, then red and green (blue?) anaglyph, for which you will need red and green (blue?) glasses. Rhodies Rock !! Oh, yes, Roadies rock too !!! 💥💥💥💥 This one is new to me - called, apparently “Mrs. T.H. Lewinsky AGA” . There must be a story there ... Very unusual, with its pink-tinged buds, as you can see, and a striking orange throat when the blooms are fully open. Wow ! Bri

brianmayforreal

SO let’s talk trivia. Like how everyone has to start a discourse with “so” these days ? How long has that been happening? I’m sure it wasn’t everybody’s habit 10 years ago. And instead of saying “he said... ”, or “I said ... ”, we all feel compelled to say “he’s like ...” or “I’m like ...” or nobody under 30 understands what we’re saying. So I’m like ... how did the English language becomes so corrupted and impoverished ? But there is good news. I don’t regard my Instagram account as a place to advertise, but I have to celebrate the enterprise of Walkers in reintroducing the blue salt packet in crisps. It seems to me that so many of the innovations of the 21st-century are put there to take away our choices, and force us all into a behaviour which makes money for someone. With these salt shaker packets of crisps, once again we actually have the option of putting salt on our food or not. This is the way it was when I was a kid. You got your packet of Smiths crisps, unsalted, and in the packet was a little blue waxed paper twist, containing salt which you could either shake into the contents of the bag, or NOT. I really enjoy exercising my choice in different ways every day with these excellent healthy snacks ! 😋 So choice is a GOOD thing, right ? 💥💥💥💥 Except when it interferes with somebody else’s right to exercise choice. Right? That’s when it gets tricky. But in this case I think we are safe. And I enjoy the fact that Walkers have paid homage to the original in the design of the package, and in the credit to our old friends Smith’s. Enjoy exercising your choices today, folks Bri

brianmayforreal

Thank you Sandra Muller @caffeinatedpaint for this lovely art work. To many of you folks, this will immediately strike a chord. But, by way of explanation, what Sandra has done is illustrate myself plugging in to the New Horizons space probe, which at present is located over 4,000,000,000 miles away from planet Earth. The picture has a nice symbolic meaning, because we did actually beam my New Horizons track out to the space vehicle on New Year’s Day. Brilliant ! 💥💥💥💥 Sandra’s Dad, Tod Lauer, is one of NASA’s top experts in astro image processing. Much of what we see in those beautiful images of Pluto and Ultimata Thule from the New Horizons Mission are due to Tod’s skills in extracting and refining the data sent back to Earth from that tiny speeding machine - about the size and shape of a grand piano, and in the 13th year of its journey, still heading outwards towards the stars. I had a lot to think about today. But this wonderful lady was in my mind all day, even when my thoughts were turbulent. I loved DORIS DAY. Never met her - so often dreamed about it - especially when I discovered her work in her animal sanctuary. But never did. Sadly ? Yes, but in a way I’m glad I never bothered her. But I always held Doris in my heart as the perfect singer - all warmth, always smiling, yet smouldering beneath. That voice !!! Tender and soft and inviting, yet ready burst into joyous overdrive as she poured her heart into the big moments. She wasn’t my generation, of course. She was of my parents’ generation, and a lot of people raised their eyebrows when I named her as my favourite singer when we were first asked this kind of question around 1970. “Doris Day?! She’s not a rock singer !” No - of course not. But listen to “ Secret Love” - my all time favourite. Listen to the beauty of those tones, and feel the passion in that performance. And remember that in those days there was no ProTools. This would be a single take. Her accuracy is sensational – she must be one of the most perfectly-in-tune singers in history. But that’s only the beginning. She doesn’t mess with the melody, or decorate it to show off. She tells the story - sings it from the heart, and all kinds of tiny curves and variations portray the emotion she feels. This isn’t the first time I’ve eulogised about Doris, but this, of course, is a special time. So many people who loved her will miss her. But, for me, seeing her peacefully depart the world at the age of 97, having followed her heart all the way, I just rejoice in her beauty and splendour, and thank her. And send her love on her next journey. RIP Doris Day. Bri

Thanks for caring about Hedgehogs, folks. Tonight’s Episode 1 is available on catch-up, and Episode 2 is at the same time (8pm) next Wednesday. Together we CAN save our wonderful native creatures from extinction. Bri

We walked on the Moon today !!! Well, it sure felt like we did. Amazing !!! Lunatick - a Virtual Reality Experience in the Strand - is a breathtaking trip. Masterminded by this man, Jacob De Geer, and designed by #antonygormley and Dr #priyamvadanatarajan, this is an amazing 20 minute ride. Most of the time you can control your own movements in the virtual landscapes, including bouncing around on the Moon’s surface and climbing up crater walls ! Sadly this showing closes today at 6om - wish I had discovered it earlier. But watch out for its return and other VR presentations by #acuteart. Thanks for a great time ! Hopefully we will collaborate soon! Bri

Got my SMILE on today ! Thanks to my dear friends the Staffells. Of course Tim designed this logo for our college group well before anyone else had a mouth-based logo. And Anne Brummer always has her smile on anyway; seeing the Magnificent Seven fox cubs tumbling around this morning in the rescue, it’s no surprise ! 💥💥💥💥 I’ll show you ! Happy Thursday folks. Bri

brianmayforreal

It saves children’s lives every day by getting them medical treatment IN TIME. Please swipe if you want to see how you can help keep the Children’s Air Ambulance Alive. 💥💥💥💥 Notice anything odd about the rotor blades ? This is not a slow motion vid ... Yep - spectacular strobe effect from the frame rate of the iPhone video camera. 💥💥💥💥 I should add that the reason I’m involved is because Anita has been a hard-working patron of the CAA since its birth 15 years ago. Happy Birthday to my darling Anita !!! Thanks for all your kind wishes, folks, and thanks for the lovely pic, Jen. Bri

The warm heart of Narcissism ? Please swipe once for parallel stereo. Hint: if you don’t know how to make it work as a 3-D view, stare into the distance ‘through’ your phone, and move the phone back and forth til the two images become one). And swipe again for the cross-eyed view (stare at your finger held about half way between your eyes and your phone. Move the finger back and forth till the images ‘fuse’). Let’s pretend it’s Spring ! 😳 💥💥💥💥 To make the stereo, I used an iPhone and the i3DSteroid app, which makes everything easy. It took about a minute !! Try it !!! Bri

Who cares if a highly intelligent and sensitive non-human mammal is kept in chains, condemned to slavery, denied any access to their family, and made to perform tricks for the amusement of humans ? Who cares ? Swipe to the second picture and meet Steve and Gail Wise. They care. And so do we. Steve, founder of the @nonhuman.rights.project has dedicated his life to changing the way the Human Race treats animals. He has championed individual elephants like this, and primates too, in a coordinated campaign to assign them rights in law which would prevent them being denied their freedom, and kept in painful and degrading situations. These are the people in the world that @anneatsaveme and I are proud to collaborate with, changing the world inch by inch for the benefit of the creatures we should be sharing this planet with, and treating with dignity. You’ll be hearing more of Steve Wise here. Follow the @nonhuman.rights.project if you care. Bri

Tonight - guesting with some old friends -Mott the Hoople ! Left to right - Ian Hunter (Mott singer), Joe Elliott (Def Leppard singer), Stan Tippins (who was tour manager for Mott, back in the day, and always sang the chorus to All the Young Dudes. Not many people know that he was also the original singer of the band. Here we are singing ‘All the Young Dudes’. Also we played one of the greatest rock anthems ever - ‘All the Way from Memphis’. At the Shepherds Bush Empire. Thanks @ivy_gf Bri

brianmayforreal

And yes - I did take a hyper stereo of this view of (apparently) the biggest building site in Europe. Trouble is .. it kinda had to be landscape format, and that doesn’t sit well in OWL territory - and even less well in Instagram Land. So this landscape stereo view comes out very small here. If you wanna see it better, you can SCREEN SHOT it, trim it, and view it with the phone turned sideways, or just zoom in if you’re viewing on a laptop .... OR ... swipe on your phone screen to see a cropped version which works better on IG. If you view stereos cross-eyed, keep swiping to versions 3 and 4. Or you could just say “Screw it – I’m moving on!” Actually it’s too painful for me contrasting this scene with the world of our little foxes. Is the world that we are building becomes more like this concrete nightmare, what room is there in it for the wild animals with whom we used to share our lives? Bri
