It’s a new day. It’s a new week. And we’re gonna get after it. Heat waves and humidity and all... (but, definitely above ground because it’s literally unbelievable how hot it is underground in New York right now. No thank yewwww) P.s. city centric heat beating tips appreciated. Pls.
10/25/2010 - my VERRRRY pregnant sister (with her second baby). My wildly fiery, fun loving, mother. And my brilliant nephew Felix who’s know like 12 (and Errol’s twin??). All of us together in northern England (where my sister still lives with her family, having fun) appreciating our differences and feeling loved in a deep, important way. This was a great moment, a warm memory in my heart, worthy of a #tbt. Because your roots with the people you love, and love you back regardless of where you’re at in life, are what’s really worth your time.
My family lives on the ground floor.. Getting up this high, 65 stories, to take it all in, can ironically be very grounding. It’s not all flashing lights and a place where dreams are made of, all the time, but she’s home.
Fresh cut. 💇♂️
Just a couple dudes I know...
Celebrating the retirement of the incomparable Dayna Hardin, a renegade superhero woman who has left an indelible mark on me, brought me back to camp this weekend for the first time in 13 years. I am sunburned, my heart is vibrating with love, and I am so sore I can barely walk from both laughing uncontrollably for 48 hours and from spending an entire day on a wakeboard (which I can confirm is a liiiiiiittle bit tougher these days, but I still got it. Swipe to the last slide and watch till the end for the pudding proof 🏄🏼♂️)
That midwestern summer morning light. It’s like medicine to me... Hoping it finds its way into my little boy’s heart too.
Growing up and getting older is much easier for me because I’ve got decades of memories with wonderful people like this group of ladies. We all survived college together in one house with six girls and one gay guy and two bathrooms... It was REAL. Now we have kids, so brunches have taken on a different tone, but my heart still runs over. Old friends really are the best friends.
This bike ride was like Gilligan’s Island and we’re still on the island but there’s beer and popcorn so it’s cool... This three hour tour has turned into an all day thing. I think we look super cool, Errol does not.
and our babies are best friends and they’re sharing and it’s sooooooo insanely heart warming. DANA!! We did a lot of things wrong in our lives, but we at least did this right.
MY SON TOOK THIS PICTURE! Of me and my dear friend and college roommate of 16 years. With her son sitting next to him. Oh, what a world.... Kids, pay attention, one minute you’re slapping the bag of Franzia in Kansas on a Wednesday during your junior year, literally the next you’re old and a parent and yelling at you’re kids for sword fighting with butter knives in a pizza joint.
I gave him the Cliffs-notes version on Mueller’s public congressional hearing today while we did some first AM Magna-tile work. I really think he understood the importance and gravity solely because he wasn’t able to watch RescueBots today... But that’s cool cause he’s just ready for “Mayor Pete to fight Donald Trump”. Good man.
The only thing I could think to do to beat the heat in New York this weekend was to leave. Get me ouuutttaaa there, catch a plane out west and spend the weekend with my best friends. That sh*t is too much for me. 🥵🤬 I’m a winter baby through and through and California is always a good idea. I choose my choice. 😎
Right before I embarked for Kilimanjaro last year, I was feeling grossed out by some of the skincare I was using that included preservatives, and toxins. My skin felt kind of stripped. So I found @motherdirt skin cleanser, and it changed my game. My skin started immediately thriving. It brought it back to life. So, i was RUHL excited to get my hands on the @motherdirt hero product of all hero products, AO+ Mist. It’s reset the bar for mindful skincare. Bacteria is crucial and AO+ mist is a live probiotic spray formulated with a patented live Ammonia-Oxidizing Bacteria (AOB) that acts as a “Peacekeeper” for the skin. The bacteria inside of AO+ Mist literally eats the ammonia in your sweat and converts it into beneficial byproducts that your skin needs to thrive and live it’s best life. AOB once existed naturally on our skin, and still exists all throughout nature, but modern chemistry and lifestyles have slowly washed it away from our biomes…. Major bummer because much like our guts that need lots of healthy bacteria to function optimally, our skin has the same needs and it doesn’t get the attention it deserves. Not to worry, and lucky us, @motherdirt has got it going on. All @motherdirt products are clinically researched and tested, biome-friendly, preservative-free, plant-based, kid safe (Hello, mom’s and dad’s! I love using this for Errol) and allows users to cut down on products that could negatively impact both the natural state of our skin and the environment. I’m very excited to collaborate with @motherdirt to help them celebrate their 4 year anniversary- I’m such a believer in everything they do. Click the link in my bio to shop @motherdirt and get 25% off of whatever you buy using the code 4BDAY at checkout. Sale starts on July 8 and ends at midnight on July 10 PDT — DO IT. 💃 #ad #biomefriendly - We’re also giving away one full @motherdirt kit to one winner and a friend so you can get in on the good! To enter: Step 1: Follow @chaseweideman and @motherdirt Step 2: Tag your adventure buddy and tell me where you explored the world together to win a biome friendly kit each. That’s it!
And they say New Yorkers never wear color...
🏳️🌈 Happy Pride, Queen 🏳️🌈
🌟 BLONDE AMBITION. 🌟 @peterbutlerhair, thank you for making my blonde dreams become a reality and for opening your kick ass home up to me. I’m your biggest fan. #kitchenbeautician #ivorylady
Raising a kid in Manhattan is kinda weird... On one hand, he’s first hand exposed to some very real, raw, aspects of humanity on a daily basis and I wonder what his little internal dialogue is sometimes about it all. (Often Times he just looks up and says, “we gotta call the cops.” And we do. 🤷🏻♂️) BUT, on the other hand, THIS! A sweet, beautiful, curious, and worldly little boy with grit and appreciation for it all. End of the day, we’re so super lucky. And, he knows the proper way to eat a slice 🍕 #iheartNY
In our favorite spot with my favorite boy (and 🐒, who never gets to leave the house. Ever. But Errol successfully laid out a very rational set of arguments as to why he should join us this one time. Hats off, little man. Well done.)
Glaciers. Ice falls. Himalaya. Pressure breathing. Working towards a goal in tandem with beloved friends. These VIEWS. Those are just a few reasons #whyihike. (And... i wanted to post something to remind myself that i will have hair again one day.. I really miss my hair). 🗻#tbt 🗻
Trying to raise a sweet boy who becomes a sweet man someday in the not so distant future.
Four! He’s FOUR. I have a four year old. My son is four. It’s all about four. Happy birthday, little man. Light of life. #errolwaynegrant
This is my son. He’s turning four. I can’t believe how lucky we are.. Today’s celebration for Errol was just exactly right. Happy birthday you brilliant little human. (📸 @tuckg ) #errolwaynegrant
In two weeks he’s gotten bigger, stronger, chattier, cuddlier, sweeter, yet stayed EXACTLY the same. But he can put his helmet on himself now, so that’s cool. Feeling complete again. 💙
I kinda can’t believe we just spent 7 days trekking through the Himalaya.. We did that!?? I’m on the long haul back home now, soaking up and processing and reviewing all of the memories from our time in Nepal, smiling and laughing all the way to Everest Base Camp (with a few moments reserved for some crying, because its impossible to be a part of something like this and not have some overwhelming emotions from time to time). The faces and the spirits of the people we met along our journey through the Himalaya are what I am taking with me with the most clarity and profoundness.. There’s just something up in that thin air. Its tough to breathe, and sometimes it made us feel a little drunk, but it also brought us as a group together and brought out the best in us. It was the most incredible adventure of my life. With immense gratitude to @eddiebauer @melissaarnot @thejuniperfund @ihpr and my framily @mandymooremm @streicherhair @thejendaltonshow (📸: @julianapse - the man, the myth, the legend!)
It’s difficult to encapsulate what these weeks here in Nepal and the Himalaya have meant to and done for me. It’s been prolific, profound, and has taught me that this world in which we live is vast, sublime, and we owe ourselves humility. This adventure has provided me with a greater insight into who i am as a person. It’s given me the gift of feeling closer and more connected with my best friends. And, it has reunited me with God and my own spirituality - which, coming from an ex-Jehovah’s Witness turned atheist, is saying a LOT. Long story short, these peaks, and this group of people, and this experience has changed the rotation of my life’s orb. It’s #whyihike (endless thank you’s to @eddiebauer and @melissaarnot and @mandymooremm and @thejuniperfund). I’m rocked and my heart is FULL.
Today, we’re headed up a little higher, above 14,000 feet. The trail is challenging, but sublimely rewarding. Onwards we trek towards our final goal of this adventure - Everest base camp. #whyihike
🏔 MOUNTAIN CREW 🏔
Highlights of day 1 on the trek with my mountain crew. Milk tea, mules, and major views. We’re climbing high and feeling great. Tomorrow, we leave Namche for the next village. More to come! #whyihike @eddiebauer
A sunrise unlike any other, one that’s going to live with me for the rest of my time here. Amadablam, Lhotse, and the supreme Mt. Everest. Out of frame: hot, wet, tears and my face to face meeting with spirituality. #whyihike
It’s 4:45am in Kathmandu. We’re packing up and headed out for our trek today. I’m feeling so many things, excited, nervous, READY TO GO. But mainly, Im so grateful to be here with these human beings, i can’t properly articulate it. I am so grateful to have this experience with the @thejuniperfund, and see in person the work they provide to widows and families here in Nepal, grateful to be in the care and guidance of @melissaarnot, our inspiring, powerful, fearless, leader and friend. And @eddiebauer - always grateful for your adventurous spirit. We are READY. I’m just incredibly lucky to be here. Let’s go live this. #whyihike #liveyouradventure #everestviewtrek2019
When presented with a wall of big balls, yah, okay we’ll show up. Hold my beer. ;) Especially when celebrating the epic accomplishments of my beloved, dear friend @mandymooremm - who just happens to be an unstoppable force, killing the game with three more years of historic television (aaaand some other stuff...), while looking incredible, and being a thoroughly fantastic human and friend. Honored to be your +1, GORL. P.s. Why doesn’t Alissa have Instagram!!??
Apparently New Zealand is 9,000.8 miles away from me right now, but I can still feel the Fall sun on my cheeks, hear the total silence of the mountains, smell the most pure oxygen, taste the BEST WATER IN THE WORLD pulled straight from a glacial river (see video), and I MISS MY ADVENTURE COMPANIONS. It was the most epic trip imaginable. This trip provided me countless reasons #whyihike, so when you can, get out there and #liveyouradventure, it’s ALWAYS worth it. Quick recharge at home and then its on to the next. See you in Nepal @mandymooremm @streicherhair @thejendaltonshow @melissaarnot @eddiebauer
A few reasons #whyihike.. This land. These incredibly strong, inspirational, dear friends of mine who continue to blow me away and make me laugh harder than I’ve ever laughed in my life. These memories we’re making. The WATER THAT WE’RE DRINKING. Paul and @wanakabob.. Mark. George. And Jin... I could go on, but, there’s still more to do down here in New Zealand and I don’t want to miss any of it. #liveyouradventure @eddiebauer @bestfootforwardnz
We he-hawed up the river in a canoe to a waterfall and all we got was this photo of us. V worth it.
A million kisses today... See you in 10 days, my Angel. Don’t grow too much while I’m off exploring the world. One day we’ll go do it together. (Wish I could bottle the smell of that little big head and bring it with me.)
The guy who’s having the most compelling, most candid, and most eloquent conversation with this country about this country. Regardless of your politics, you’d be wise to pay close attention to @pete.buttigieg. He’s the future. I’m all in. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸#peteforamerica #presidentpete #godilooktired
I’ve got some seriously hefty travel and adventures coming up here with some of my favorite people on the planet, for which I’m WILDLY excited. But, Errol’s staying home and I can already feel it- these pictures of him that i took this morning at 7am while we had coffee in the courtyard and chatted are gonna be the ones that make me smile when that feeling of being on the other side of the world from your family hits hard.. The cheeks. The smile. The hand placement (!!!!). This remarkable boy of ours. Your papa loves you very much babe.
HOPE. For every American. This feels like the first glimpse of sunrise after a REALLY long, really dark, nightmare of a night. Happy Monday!!! @pete.buttigieg #peteforpresident
Well well well... Today is someone very special to me’s 35th birthday. Your 34th trip around the sun brought you so much love, and adventure, and success, and rewards for your seemingly superhuman level of work ethic and energy. Your 35th will only bring you more of all the good things, i know it... including alllll the meat and cheese platters. (which have apparently vastly improved over the years.. 🥰) There truly is no one more generous of spirit anywhere on this planet. When something great happens, I gotta tell you. When something shitty happens, I gotta tell you. When something hilarious happens, I gotta tell you. You’re that kind of a BFF to me and guuuurl no one makes me laugh like you. Last year we took this party from the top of FREAKING Africa, to your FREAKING wedding, and back to our spot at Blue Hill. This year, we’ve got a couple continents to visit to make more memories, have some Chenaynay, and live our lives to the fullest. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Marrow. Love you much. Life is made infinitely more fun with you in it. Now, let’s ALL wish this angel on earth a very very happy birthday. Give her all the love. She deserves it.
I just looked him in the eye, asked him a question over pizza about his imaginary friend “Ken” who “lives in China” with his parents “Door” (Ken’s father) and “Ceiling” (his mother, respectively). Ken’s been kind of a bully as of late, and I frequently am handed a banana (literally) by Errol and told to call his parents to talk to them about Ken hitting him and ask them to put him in time out. Despite Ken acting out so much recently, Errol keeps going back to China, sometimes just for the “carrots and hummus salad” which he swears is the best in the world... Apparently I have to try it sometime. I wish i could have this lunch, with this boy, every day. So, I’m leaving these pictures here to memeorialize the spirit of conversations with Errol at this juncture of his life. My child is my very favorite human being in the entire world for now and for always....
It’s an odd and exciting feeling to look back at one year old photos these days. In one sense, the moment feels crisp, like it happened yesterday (in the instance of this photo, it feels like it happened today), and in another sense, it feels like another lifetime. I cant help but incorporate all of the events of the year into a quick nostalgic look back. I remember this exact moment from one year ago with my sister @mandymooremm en route to embark our schlep to the very crown of the queen of Africa, Kilimanjaro, with my friend family @taylordawesgoldsmith @streicherhair @jenniferleighdalton _ What’s been the best adventure of your life? #letsgo #whyihike @eddiebauer
Farewell, sweet Portugal. If Mueller hadn’t just dropped his report, and I could focus on something other than that, I’d attempt to write something lovely about how it was the most spectacular, relaxing, recalibrating vacation of our lives, but, i can’t ‘cause Mueller did, so, I’ll just say- “Until next time”... 👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼
Spain at our back. Portugal at our front. Right before we filled our bellies up with a big ol’ lunch from both. Europe reminds me that life can be slow, easy, and it SHOULD be enjoyable...
We have arrived. We’re in awe. This is our room. We’re going to take Évora by storm. (Errol chose this pose.)
Three on a beach. In this case, three on an empty, pristine, Portuguese beach. (And a little green ghost was there too, apparently. See it? 👻) Vacations are few and far between, but they serve a multitude of purposes- rest, relaxation, dropping your shoulders, taking deep breaths and remembering how lucky we are to be alive, slowing down, plugging into family, memory making, indulging in day wine, and a near constant bread intake. I had chocolate cake for breakfast today... Doing it ALL here on this one. (📷: @melissacowleywolf)
Yesterday took us from New York to Lisbon and onwards to Comporta. I think we could leave today and be happy with the trip but we’ve got a whoooole lot of vacation left soooo, day 1 and done.
