I’ve been guilty of saying and thinking today ‘I’d rather be in work.’ Holidaying with two kids.... blimey, it’s hard work. But then I look at pics like this and my heart melts. We’re attempting a french market tomorrow. I already know it’s a stupid idea.
Our #nakedissue is a celebration of women’s healthy bodies. ‘Well’ looks different on everybody and here’s GB champion weightlifter @oliviablatch displaying her strength and beauty. We shot ten elite athletes from a variety of sports and all with wonderfully different bodies. Women’s Health’s ongoing #projectbodylove campaign wants women to accept and cherish their bodies. The sportswomen in our portfolio are inspirational, humble but some are not without their own insecurities. Read their stories in this month’s issue. Photography @ianharrisonphoto , creative director @adamgerrard_whuk , picture director @frankie_hill_ and huge thanks to deputy editor @spreadingthejoy for sourcing such an impressive selection of women.
Our Naked Issue went on sale today and caused quite a stir. It even ended up being discussed on national TV. Along with @rochellehumes on the cover, we shot a selection of elite sports women, all with very different body shapes - proving there’s no such thing as an ideal ‘fit’ body. Here’s professional rugby players @garnetmackinder , @bethwilcockx and @ninavistisen - proud, powerful and strong . This year’s Naked Issue is part of WH’s ongoing #projectbodylove campaign. British women have the second worst body confidence in the world. We want women to celebrate their healthy bodies and will continue providing content to help change our mindsets. I hope you are inspired by the women in this image and the others you’ll find in the magazine. Let’s start being kind to ourselves and our bodies. We’re all beautifully unique. And that’s something to be thankful for. Photography @ianharrisonphoto , creative director @adamgerrard_whuk , picture director @frankie_hill_
As part of our ongoing #projectbodylove campaign I’m thrilled to announce our Naked Issue is officially on sale today. Our research found British women are overwhelmingly negative about their bodies and our cover star @rochellehumes used to be no exception. It’s taken two children and a lot of soul searching for her to be comfortable in her skin and this cover is a celebration of that. She may look ‘perfect’ to many but every woman has the right to their own emotions, from insecurity to supreme confidence. So don’t belittle Rochelle’s wonderful , new found easiness with herself with comments like ‘I’d be confident if I looked like her’ and ‘she doesn’t represent real women.’ We’re all different - and we’re all ‘real women.’ I hope you enjoy the issue. I’m on a team with @laurabiceps , @wellness_ed and @frankie_hill_ for @battle.cancer in October so Laura is training me once a week at @foundryfit ‘s brand spanking new Bank location. Today was all about dead lifts, trx rows, awful prowler runs and more. Meanwhile I’m training for @cardiffhalf on October 6th. WH is sponsoring a team of 100 incredible women, all novice half marathon runners - the #runwales100 club - and I’m running with them. What’s more, the BBC is filming us beforehand and on the day. If that’s not enough of a reason to get those miles in, I don’t know what is. Busy couple of months coming up.
Week one of school summer holidays and we’re in sunny Wales. Pontypridd Lido today and Barry Island tomorrow. It’s like my childhood all over again. Quality time with my little people is long overdue.
Good luck @laurabiceps for the launch of your debut book Lift Yourself this morning. Laura is one of the most genuine, supportive, lovely people in wellness and she deserves all her success. Laura, I’m sorry I can’t be there. I’m Valleys bound in the sunshine. Have a blast!
I was on a panel today discussing mental health and the state of the nation. Expertly hosted by the ever inspirational @jadasezer , I was joined by Men’s Health Editor-in-Chief @tobywisemanuk , award-winning mental health campaigner @mrjonnybenjamin , and NHS consultant psychiatrist Sarah Vohra @themindmedic . Top takeaway? Treat your mental health care like your dental care. It’s something you should look after everyday not just when things get bad. Wise words from Jonny. Thank you @starcom.uk for inviting us and putting mental health on your agenda.
I hit @barrysuk this morning with some of my WH team for the launch of @lululemonuk and Barry’s Stronger As One collaboration. The class was sweaty, hard and I loved it. Half the team disappeared into the changing room so here I am with WH’s junior fitness editor @itsmekirsti and fashion assistant @abigaillbuchanan. Don’t we look smart in our new Barry’s X Lululemon clobber?
#tbt to about 12 years ago. I remember thinking I was fat at the time. Now I look at it and think I look ill. Years and years of body hating. Women’s Health’s ongoing campaign #projectbodylove aims to equip women with the tools to celebrate their healthy bodies. Look out for more content online, in print and much more. Only 6% of the women we surveyed ‘love’ their bodies. We want to change that number. Starting today.
I love the Club Tropicana vibe of this month’s subscribers cover with @voguewilliams . I’m on my way to Wales for a few meetings today and tomorrow and will be staying with my lovely family. I don’t see them enough. Happy Thursday! My gorgeous girl...always smiling. Our feature is in the new issue of Women’s Health, on sale Tuesday. Fashion credits tagged. Photography @ianharrisonphoto
My beautiful son won Players’ Player of the Year Award at Winchester RFC annual awards. Proud doesn’t even come close. Well done gorgeous Zak.
I’m a passionate, outspoken advocate for more open conversation around mental health. I’m very open about my struggles, often to national media, and this week I was asked to do three talks as part of Mental Health Awareness Week. It was a privilege and, even better, I’ve been given these flowers as a thank you. This is a very tired face. Thank you @mediacomuk and @chloebarrington . The flowers are beautiful .
The Sanderson girls.... she’s always laughing
Can we all just take a minute to admire Men’s Health’s new cover? Happy Wednesday indeed...
Worthy cover stars, do you reckon? This is my super talented deputy editor @spreadingthejoy and we, along with my amazing team at Women’s Health - special shout out to @wellness_ed and @hearstliveuk - have been working our little socks off to ensure our inaugural Women’s Health Live event in May is nothing short of brilliant. Have you got your tickets yet? Link in bio
Proud mammy on Mother’s Day. Congratulations Zak and his Winchester RFC team mates for winning all of their games at Newbury Blues Minis Festival.
The sweaty face of someone who just did a Dri-tri on a Saturday morning....
I got a grilling on BBC Wales radio this week for having the audacity to say mums should set an example to their children and exercise. I stand by my words and here’s my baby boy having tennis trials today for a scholarship. I’m a proud (sporty) mum.
Join some of the biggest names in the wellness industry this May at London’s Business Design Centre for the first ever Women’s Health Live. You’ll find me hosting on the main stage so come over and say hi.
Thank you #adweekeurope for inviting me and a panel of truly inspiring women to discuss how brands should lead in a socially aware generation. Special shout out to @nataliedcampbell for being a brilliant host.
Back at @define.london today with the ever lovely, but very tough trainer @ashleybverma . Having a stinking head cold didn’t help matters.
Lovely New Year’s Day walk in the New Forest. Please note Zak’s Wales rugby ball which he insisted on taking for kicking practise. My work here is done.....
We’re on the sofa watching The Croods. No place I’d rather be on NYE. 2018 was the year I just about achieved being a full-time working mum who’s doing her dream job, while fitting in a few workouts, spending some precious time with dear friends (old and new)and the odd date or two with @danmansan80 . It’s two weeks until my two year anniversary at Women’s Health - bring on 2019. 🥳
First Xmas since the age of about 16 - apart from pregnancies - spent completely sober, thanks to antibiotics. The Ferraro Rochers are making up for it. Happy Christmas from the Sandersons.
I couldn’t be prouder to have been invited by Jackie Doyle-Price MP and the Department of Health and Social Care to join its Women’s Health Taskforce. Co led by Ms Doyle-Smith MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Mental Health, Inequalities and Suicide, and Professor Lesley Regan, President of the Royal College of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians, the Taskforce will focus on significantly improving the health outcomes of girls and women.
There were so many amazing images from our cover shoot with @kayla_itsines I couldn’t choose a favourite. So for the first time, there are two different news stand covers of our Jan/Feb issue on sale simultaneously. Which one do you prefer? Photography @pedonomou , styling @saskiaquirke , creative director @adamgerrard_whuk and picture director @emilybaho
As a welsh, rugby-loving Mam, nothing makes me prouder than this image....
#TB to yesterday afternoon, stood on the pitch after the Wales v South Africa match. I’m a little bit in love with this @insidejigsaw faux fur scarf and super elegant black wool coat. Still buzzing about what happened less than 24 hours ago, thanks to Wales team sponsors @underarmouruk .
Obligatory unicorn holiday pic. Pool time with the fam at @villa_tona, thanks to @_oliverstravels_
Enjoying a well-earned shandy after a day at the water park with the kids. Croatia adventures continues....
My taxi! No joke. Slightly anxious right now ....
Part one of my Croatian adventure is over. The wellness offering in Mali Losinj is world class. The spa at the Hotel Bellevue is one of the best I’ve ever been to. And training at the nearby outdoor CrossFit box, shaded by a pine wood, was hands down the highlight of my trip, closely followed by all of the lovely treatments I was lucky enough to experience. The staff and owners are wonderful, food delicious, scenery breathtaking. Can’t wait to go back. Now onto meeting the family on the mainland.
Fish tartare starter and completely edible peach mouse dessert for lunch at Boutique Hotel Alhambra . Pretty special ....
Here’s another image from our 2018 Naked Issue - England goalkeeper Karen Bardsley . Check out the new issue of Women’s Health to see six other world class sports women proving there’s no one body shape for peak wellness.
Have you seen our Naked issue yet? We shot seven sports women, all world class, to celebrate how wonderful, strong and different our bodies can be yet exemplify health and wellness. Here’s winter Olympian Mica Moore who competed in the bobsleigh this year.
