No matter what happened this week. You’re still here. Enjoy the weekend. I love you. #HeartTalk
For anyone needing these words mid week. I love you ❤️
Starting Monday strong 💪🏾 🌸 I love you. #HeartTalk
The weekend is upon us. Thought I would share with y’all incase you’re looking for some inspiration for your Self-care Sunday. 🍷 📺 🍿 also lol at Margot in this chat. Which one of your friends is the Molly, which is the Margot, and which is the me in this exchange? Also what’s your go to show/movie for unwinding?
I can think of nothing more heartless or soulless than tearing kids away from their mother & fathers. As my sister @glennondoyle says “Many things about immigration are complicated. This is not: Children should not be torn from their families.” Before you put vile words into the world (or on the internet) about other human beings, before you verbalize a single sentence in judgment of another person and the depths they go to in order to give their children a safe life, ask yourself - where is this coming from within me? Am I speaking from the goodness of my heart and the power of my soul? Is my empathy and compassion intact? Or am I actually wishing harm on others? Have I confused myself with a God or superior being and somehow feel as though I have the right to decide which children in our world deserve torture and trauma and which children don’t? Keep your heart and soul close, loved ones. We need them with us during these times.
August’s Monthly Love Note is all about letting it (the unacknowledged feelings, the unsaid words) out so you can let it go. If you want to read the rest of this letter as well as get the mantra to support you in releasing what you need to release, go to www.cleowade.com I love you. ❤️
Rest In Power #ToniMorrison
“ Love is never any better than the lover” I live by these words. I say I want to love. I go out into the world wanting to love, wanting to manifest things with my love - I say I want to love my partner, my family, my friends, my neighbor- but who am I? What type of person is trying to live in and with the power of love? If it is someone who is not healed from my wounds, then I must focus on my healing. If it is someone who has not learned to forgive themselves, then I must take the first step in the long road of self-forgiveness . If it is someone who is not patient, then I must slow down and learn to be gentle. If it is someone who is violent or unkind, then I must find what it is within me that is giving fuel to violence & unkindness and free myself from its clenches. If it is someone who turns their back when faced with the opportunity to do the right thing, then I must address why I do not honor my own existence as as well as the existence of those around me enough to know that we all deserve to live in the light of what is right while we are on this earth together. Thank you #ToniMorrison for bringing words into this world that did not only raise me in my girlhood, but in my womanhood as well. Your work changed forever changed me and our world. Rest In Power.
Another day, another mass shooting in America. The current gun laws protect guns, not people. Thoughts and prayers are nice but how will we show up to dismantle this public health crisis? In the words of Fredrick Douglass “I prayed for twenty years, but received no answer till I prayed with my legs” There are so many ways to get involved in change-making. Learn about your local laws. Support local grassroots movements for gun safety reform. & vote. We have quite a few people running in the democratic presidential primary. Have you checked their websites to take a look at their plan for gun safety? If so whose do you think is best? Would love to know your thoughts. Let’s talk about these issues together. Also all 435 seats in the House of Representatives, 34 of the 100 seats in the Senate, 13 state and territorial governorships, and numerous other state and local elections, will also be contested in 2020. Enough is enough. Let’s get organized and vote in people who want to keep us safe. May we never have another #elpaso I love you.
Happy Birthday, @simondavidkinberg ❤️🐊 What joy it is to spend my life with you. I would also like to take this opportunity to formally apologize for the time I had a little too much daytime wine and forced you to buy matching alligator print outfits with me from the merch booth at jazz fest in New Orleans. Probably also took it a little too far by finding this green wall and talking you into posing in front of it with me. Anyway, I love you! So glad you were born 🐊 ❤️
A couple weeks ago, @skii called me to talk to me about their new #Timelines film. I watched it while I was on the phone with them and was really moved. I think it is really cool when brands have a desire to tell people's stories (especially the ones we don't get to see often or push for a conversation about things we don't talk about often). Storytelling is powerful and is made more powerful when it is met with resources and a platform. I wrote down these words while I was on the phone, watching the film, as a reminder to myself that my time belonged to me. There is so much that goes on in our lives that seem to hijack our time, or make us feel powerless when it comes to making decisions about what we want to do, when we want to do it. SK-II called because they wanted to work together to create content to help share these stories and films and I asked if I could just use this photo from my notebook. I was pretty happy when they said yes, because it was my initial reaction to what I saw (which is usually our most honest). Swipe right to watch a clip of the film and go to @skii to see the full video. And if you currently feel like your time is not in your possession. Take it back. I love you. #ChangeDestiny #skiipartner
Loved ones, ⠀ 📚🚨NEW BOOK ALERT 🚨📚 ⠀ Okay, a little story on how this book came to be... ⠀ Soooooo, if you asked me in January if I was going to write a new book this year, the answer would have been HELLLLLLL NO! I was swamped with other projects and was focused on writing a kids book for next year. AND THEN, one day in April I was looking through #HeartTalk and came across the poem called ‘tired.’ ⠀ There is a line in that poem that says: ⠀ I was tired of seeing evil everywhere so I found the heavenly spots and showed my neighbors where they were ⠀ I immediately called @caithoyt and told her there was a book I wanted to make this year (in true Cait fashion she said “sure!” instead of “are you insane?” And I truly love her for that). ⠀ I realized that no matter who I talked to, we were always having the same conversation about how the world just felt like it was getting harder and harder to handle every day. I felt it too- the burnout, fatigue, and waves of intense worry, and there was only one thing I knew for sure I could do about it...and it was to create a heavenly spot... ⠀ Where to Begin is a collection of the ideas, mantras, and poems I turn to when I feel like I am losing it. ⠀ I wrote this so that I could put them all in one place when I felt overwhelmed by worry, fear, anxiety, or helplessness. ⠀ The words in this book are what stop me from walking away from the problems of the world during tough times. They also help me stay connected to hope during difficult moments and remind me that even on the days that feel the most daunting, I still have the power to show up and do something, somewhere, in some way. ⠀ Change-making comes in all sizes. It doesn’t always have to be one big gesture or nothing. As my friend Jenna often says, “The big stuff is the small stuff.” Your big life is made up of a collection of all your small moments. Our big world is a made up of a collection of all our small actions. This book is about where to begin. ⠀ PRE ORDER AVAIL NOW LINK IN BIO indiebound.org @amazon @barnesandnoble @booksamillion @target OR WHEREVER YOU BUY YOUR BOOKS! Let’s do this, fam. I love you ❤️ ALSO I GUESS I’M LIKE CRYING RN
Bet on yourself. Believe in yourself. Sounds fun. I love you.
As #JamesBaldwin wrote to #AngelaDavis when she was imprisoned in 1971, “if they take you in the morning, they will be coming for us that night.” Our issues are connected. We are connected. When you stand with @ilhanmn you stand for yourself and your family and all generations to come. If the awful chanting of “lock her up” offended you so should the horrifying chanting of “send her back.” Let’s make sure we are showing up, fam. We are each other’s keepers. Go be powerful and let’s keep each other safe. I love you. #istandwithilhan
Incase anyone needs to be reminded of the definition of racism, please see below: ⠀ racism[ rey-siz-uh m ] noun ⠀ 1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human racial groups determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to dominate others or that a particular racial group is inferior to the others. ⠀ 2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination. ⠀ 3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races. ⠀ Donald Trump is racist. I am a black woman from Louisiana, I have witnessed enough racism in my life to know it when I see it. If you have refused to see it in him, I urge you to see it now. When will enough be enough? We cannot build a healthy country with this poison. ⠀ Thank you to @ocasio2018 @ilhanmn @repayannapressley @rashidatlaib for always speaking up for not only what is right but what is reflective of how so many of us feel.
Simple truths by my favorite #MaryOliver Every time I read this poem I am reminded to question everything. Why certain rules were created. Who made them. And who they made them for. Many rules or societal norms were never created with my liberation and desire to wholeheartedly feel my freedom spiritually, physically, or emotionally in mind. Where in your life are you following a set of standards or rules at the expense of truly experiencing yourself? Where in life are you standing still or falling in line where you could be dancing instead? I say, when you feel it, no matter what room or where you may be in your life...dance. I can’t imagine regretting it. I love you.
Writing the monthly love note each month might be my very favorite thing I get to write. Even though it goes out to thousands of people, when I write it, I feel like I’m writing a journal entry or a text to one of my girlfriends. Here is a snippet from this month’s letter. If you want the whole enchilada, head over to my website cleowade.com to subscribe. Each letter includes a mantra of the month (July is all about self-compassion) I am currently working with to be better at living & loving. Enjoy. I love you. And shoutout to my therapist, wine, girlfriends, @tracydubb teaching me the term “anxiety run”, and the bathtub. ❤️❤️❤️
This is especially true for self- forgiveness. I love you. #HeartTalk

On Monday night The Marriott donated $100,000 to Immigration Equality to support their critical work on behalf of LGBTQ and HIV-positive immigrants and asylum seekers. I am so proud to stand with leaders like @marriottintl who understand the importance of not only supporting the LGBTQ community ALL YEAR ROUND, but also understand how critical it is that we put our funds & energy at the intersection of the groups who are most vulnerable in our world. ⠀ As Audre Lorde said, “There is no such thing as a single-issue struggle because we do not live single-issue lives.” ⠀ We cannot talk about LGBTQ rights without talking about what immigrants and asylum seekers face as they flee violence, abuse, and persecution because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or HIV status. ⠀ This donation is the largest corporate gift Immigration Equality has ever received and will expand the organization’s capacity to deliver life-saving free legal services to LGBTQ asylum seekers fleeing persecution in their countries of origin. ⠀ I am grateful that Beth from The Marriott found an old poem of mine online and asked me to read it at the celebration of this partnership this week. It was so inspiring to learn about Marriott's #LoveTravels initiative to create space and funds to promote peace, inclusivity, equality, and Human Rights. ⠀ Honestly, in a world where brands ask you to partner with them on such a variety of things I am really grateful when I am asked to be a part of telling the stories of doing good in the world. ⠀ Okay thats all! Check out @immigrationequality and also @videoout if you want to get involved! These amazing grassroots organizations need all of us to help make the biggest difference possible. ⠀ And one more shout out to @badbunnybetty for finding that old poem! After I read it I decided to put it in my new book! ⠀ #LoveTravels #ImmigrationEquality #VideoOut #LGBTQIA #WorldPride #stonewall50 #marriottpartner
I joined this movement by donating and I urge you to get involved. Every child is our child. We must keep them safe. #Repost @elizabeth_gilbert_writer ・・・ To everyone out there who is standing with me to fight for these detained children: GOD BLESS YOU. We raised over one million dollars in a single day. Many of these donations were “only” five dollars —the most that many of you, struggling in your own difficult circumstances, could afford. I have been moved to tears by the number of you who donated, despite saying that you have no money in surplus for yourselves right now. You are heroes. And I have been staggered by the number of you who have donated from overseas. America is not even your country — and yet you are donating to @together.rising In doing so, you are not only helping these 13,000 desperate and imprisoned children; you are helping America save her own soul. Thank you. We need every single one of you.❤️ For those of you who have not yet donated, and who are still feeling sick and helpless about this crisis, let me remind you what WE are doing. We are rising up together. We are raising money to help fund a team of lawyers, led by the extraordinary Holly Cooper (of UC Davis Immigration Law Clinic) to ferociously advocate for these helpless, terrified children. Holly and her team are among the few advocates who are even allowed into these ICE Detention Centers. They’ve seen the horrors firsthand. They’ve already had success getting some sick children out of detainment—including a baby who would’ve died already without their intervention. They are also fighting in the courts against the very officials who are responsible for these atrocities. (In other words, to paraphrase Desmond Tutu: They are not merely pulling drowning people out of the river; they are going upstream to find out who is pushing them in.) If you’ve been wondering how to help out in this humanitarian disaster, I can assure you that donating to @together.rising is an efficient, powerful way to do it. Join the thousands of us who refuse to stand by as this crime against humanity is committed before our eyes. Every dime is for the children. Join us. I love you
Realized when I posted this earlier there was a typo. Fixed it. And ready to try again. Lol. Let’s bring this big energy into the week - typos, imperfections, flaws and all. I love you

Very relieved to read today that the St. Louis County Circuit Court stepped in to temporarily protect access to abortion care at Reproductive Health Services of Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region, the last remaining health center in Missouri that provides abortion care. We must continue to pay attention and stick together in the fight for women’s reproductive rights. Already, one in three women of reproductive age live in a state where abortion could be outlawed if Roe v. Wade were overturned — that’s over 25 million people. And just yesterday, Louisiana (my home state, smh) Governor Edwards signed into law a six-week ban on abortion — before many women even know they’re pregnant — making it the fifth state in 2019 alone to pass such an extreme ban. Stay informed ( @ppact @ppact @aclu_nationwide ), stay standing-up for equality, stay doing what you can with what you’ve got to make sure no woman’s body is under the control of the government (donate your time and/or money to local organizations working on the ground to ensure safe abortion access for all women regardless of their socioeconomic background) . Also with all these damn Governors signing these bills into law, all I keep thinking about is how much I can’t wait to see more smart, pro-choice women run for office. If you might be one of these women check out @emilys_list ❤️I love you. Photo: @gucci
Today is an amazing day to honor the memory of those who have sacrificed their lives for our country on the front line and also thank our veterans, for me, it’s also an important day to learn more about what those who come home from service deal with and how we can be a part of their healing community. I often see a quote floating around Instagram that says “check in on your strong friends” May we remember to apply this to our servicewomen & servicemen. No one deserves to live in the shadows as they suffer with their mental health. We are all in it together. Their struggle is our struggle. We make real our connection to one another by living it’s truth through our actions. I love the organization @getheadstrong and feel free to drop in the comments any that you know about or have been involved with. I love you all so much. 🇺🇸 ❤️
Give what you wanna get. I love you.
If we are not careful, we spend our whole lives leaving instead of living. I love you.
It does not feel good to be unkind to yourself. It does not feel good to be unkind to another person. Do what feels good. Be kind. I love you. #HeartTalk
