In Paradise, CA with folks from @sunrisemvmt @sunrisechico @extinctionrebellion @fridaysforfutureusa @theclimatemobilization @chico350 - since the wildfire, this community has passed a Declaration of #ClimateEmergency, youth joined the global #SchoolStrike4Climate, brought the #GreenNewDeal to town, and working to elect @audreyforcongress to defeat the current climate denier congressman LaMalfa. #ClimateUprising

87 year-old Buddhist Lin Jensen has started a public sit for #ClimateUprising in Chico, California to bring awareness to the climate crisis. Lin is a local legend who has sat for years in non-violent protest of a variety of social injustices. πŸ™βœŠ πŸ“· Karen Laslo

#Repost @nirvanmullick β€’ β€’ β€’ β€’ β€’ After our @climateuprising talk, this 86 year old Buddhist asked if he could have one of our #ClimateUprising signs for a sit he wants to do for climate change. His previous protest sit was every day. For 2 years. Yes, I gave him a sign. This weekend @jeffrey_schneider11 and I went back up to Chico and Paradise to connect with volunteers helping us launch the first #ClimateUprising Chapter in Chico. We also spoke at a @citizensclimate forum on the Wildfires and Climate Change, shared some of the videos we've been working on, and invited folks to a 500+ person group portrait we are planning weekend of Feb 16 up in Paradise. We spent #SuperBowl Sunday filming more wildfire survivors in the rain speaking out for climate action in the ashes of their home. This is the real game we're all playing. And we're all on the same team. Something hopeful is rising up. #ClimateStrike #ClimateEmergency #ClimateUprising #GreenNewDeal #climatechange #climatecrisis

We met Tom and Karen at the Chico hardware store, where they were picking up one of the hundreds of free screen trays being handed out to sift through the ashes of their home in Paradise, CA, lost during the #CampFire. Tom is a 71 year old retired Vietnam Veteran. He is a registered Republican who voted for Trump and their local Congressman Doug LaMalfa (who are both climate change deniers). Tom believes in the science behind climate change, and believes that the drought and longer fire seasons both contributed to fuel the ferocity of this wildfire. But he hasn't paid much attention to Climate Change when voting. At least, not until Nov 8th, two days after the mid-term election, when a climate fueled wildfire destroyed his home, his town, and his security. Tom joined the #ClimateUprising and said he would support a #GreenNewDeal. He said he wouldn't have been interested in talking about climate change a month ago, but that "losing everything changes everything." Tom has since learned that the climate scientists warn we have only 10-12 years to act on climate change, and he is concerned for his granddaughter. He has read that the US Department of Defense and Pentagon consider Climate Change a threat to National Security, and wonders why he hasn't heard about this on Fox news. Tom regrets voting for climate deniers, and said he will be making climate change the #1 issue when he votes in 2020. He is joining our bipartisan call for climate action, asking for climate policies to be drafted like the #GreenNewDeal that are based on the consensus of climate science, and at the scale required to address the climate crisis. We joined Tom and Karen as they sifted through the ashes of their home. Tom was looking for remnants of his grandmother's sugar bowl dish. Their show cars and garden we're all destroyed. Tom and Karen's hope is that something positive might rise from the ashes of this tragedy, and help prevent more climate fueled disasters like this wildfire from happening to other towns. This is what hope looks like. #RisingFromTheAshes #ClimateUprising #ParadiseStrong #ButteStrong #ClimateChange #CampFire #ClimateCrisis #ClimateStrike #ClimateEmergency

#Repost @westflow.yoga - Chelsea is one of the 7 incredible folks impacted by these wildfires that we helped send to D.C. to speak out to leaders like @berniesanders about the climate crisis. We have since started this #ClimateUprising project, inspired by this group's trip and the power of sharing personal stories of those directly impacted by climate change. β€’ β€’ β€’ β€’ β€’ @westflow.yoga: At first I felt small. I had that β€œ..but who am I?” mindset and didn’t understand what I was capable of. I was asked to share my story, represent my community and attend the national town hall meeting titled β€œSolving our Climate Crisis”, hosted by Senator Bernie Sanders. I was joined by 6 other incredible people from Butte County. Half of the group helped navigate the political climate, the other half shared our personal experiences as survivors of the devastating Camp Fire. Collectively, we ran a marathon of meetings with various senators, environmentalists, and members of congress. Together, we were seen and heard. My heart was beating out of chest when I sat down to talk with this man. A man that I have the utmost respect for. But as I started talking, my heart opened up and I was able to share my story and my concerns with courage and confidence. My nerves settled and somehow I knew I was exactly where I was supposed to be. #buttestrong #campfire #survivors #climatecrisis #bipartisan #globalissue #moralissue #greennewdeal #feelthebern #takeaction #wakeup #speakout #thinkglobalactlocal
