I’ve heard from a lot of you about the fact that puerto rico‘s new Governor didn’t put her hand on the Bible for her swearing in. I called to find out why and the press secretary said: she simply forgot, in the heat of the moment. (You see her daughter holding the Bible.)
BREAKING: Wanda Vázquez has been sworn in as Governor of Puerto Rico, the third in five days.
Puerto Ricans - known for creatively protesting - are using social media to mock the swearing in of Pedro Pierluisi as Governor. Critics who believe his taking the oath of office was unconstitutional are poking fun using objects like toilet paper to swear themselves in as Gov.
Enroute to El Paso, I met @mariedennise. She’s from Arecibo, Puerto Rico. She works for the Houston Chronicle as a photographer. She told me she 1st saw her mom 11 days after Hurricane Maria. Her mom, Marisel, was washing herself with rain runoff from a gutter. The stories are still so raw. Credit to Marie for the photo.

Cool workers 😎
There was a cocktail brunch today to kick off the start of #worldpride in New York City. CBS has, for the first time, a float in the pride parade. I’ll be on it! This week we have 2 pride related stories on @cbsthismorning - 1 which looks back at the Stonewall Riots 50 years ago. I interviewed an bartender who was working that day when a transgender woman of color (as the story goes) threw the first rock, inside the Stonewall Inn, that set into motion a chain of events which led to the modern day gay rights movement. That bartender, now 80 years old, still works at the bar. We interviewed him there (swipe). He’s been traveling around the world for the last year telling the story of Stonewall. #stonewall50 #stonewall #pride #worldpride
A few months ago, a college student, finding his way in life, sent me a direct message on Twitter. He didn’t ask for anything, but I heard him, and as Oprah says: all people want to know is do you hear me and does what I have to say matter. I responded with some encouragement, realizing that he’d take that leap of faith when he was ready. Tonight, I got another message from him. (Swipe right) It’s pride month and I’m so happy for this young man. A year ago this month, I too, came out publicly. #lgbt #pride #payitforward

This is not an endorsement of Mayor Pete. It’s personal. Had I seen: (When I was young) a picture like this for a presidential candidate it wouldve blown my mind. I may’ve come out sooner. I saw this and took a moment to appreciate the progress that’s been made. By everyone. #lgbtq
We took a spontaneous trip to the nations capital to see the cherry blossoms. Worth it. Somebody bloomed larger than the flowers. ❤️
Big news breaking in Puerto Rico, and it’s not an April Fools Day joke. Both resignations have been been confirmed the Governor’s Secretary of Public Affairs.
We lead the CBS Weekend News tonight with President Trump threat to close the southern border with Mexico due to a surge of illegal immigrants and a humanitarian crisis: people fleeing Central America because of violence and in search of a better life. I came across this picture today of my late grandfather, Paul Alice Trahan. I see a resemblance. The child he’s holding was his niece, Charlotte Johnson. She died today. I love family photos, family stories, and everlasting memories. Location: Crowley, LA. 1946.
Puerto Rico Governor @ricardorossello has signed an executive order banning conversion therapy for minors. He said, when announcing that he would sign the order: “Almost 50 yrs ago, the American Psychiatric Association declared that homosexuality is not a mental illness & therefore does not need to be “cured” or “treated” in any way”. The executive order may be challenged in court, as many people are wondering.

Happy Birthday to Lin-Manuel Miranda who is 39, today! Here are some pictures from our recent trip to #PuertoRico 🇵🇷
“Not everything in the island is shootings and poverty. People are making a difference.” That’s the message one Puerto Rican resident from Aguadilla sent me. A 25 year old architect apparently energized a community to create “Pintalto” in an area devastated by Hurricane Maria. This was the message I received: “Pintalto is an initiative of a 25 years old architect that searching on the map found the combination of hills facing the bay found in Aguadilla a perfect neighborhood to be rescued and transformed. In Cerro Cabrera after hurricane María neighbors were stuck. Lack of FEMA assistant, blue roofs still on and the long waiting process was tiresome. Samuel Gonzalez the architect came to Aguadilla and gather the neighbors and Pintalto was born. The municipality, volunteers and companies got involved. Now an area that was devastated and forgotten is flourishing with tourist . New restaurants, small bed and breakfast hotels and small businesses are growing taking a leap into the future, setting an example of resilience and transformation. This is the right way to a new beginning. Pintalto is dedicated to Puerto Rico’s culture, arts and music a true testimony of faith and will power.” #puertorico #aguadilla #island

Some 👍🏻 news... My producer and his family are on a ferry to #Vieques right now (I was supposed to go but I have to jet back to New York to anchor tomorrow nights CBS Weekend News) We’ve heard nightmare stories of what it’s like to ride and rely on the ferry. So, I asked my colleague how the ride was going. His response: “Modern, fresh, fairly comfortable ticket station and holding area. Crowded, but air-conditioned ferry that departed on time.” UPDATE: the ferry arrived on time! #puertorico
Look who’s at @hamiltonmusical in Puerto Rico, tonight? @chefjoseandres! & he brought his wife, Patricia! I asked her how she deals with all his travel? She said: it’s good because he has so much energy. ❤️ I told, Jeremy says the same thing about me. They don’t mind us on the road, sometimes.😂
Two dudes in Dorado Beach, Puerto Rico
ON THE STAGE: we got in to theater, today, where @hamiltonmusical opens Friday night in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Our tour guide: Rick Negron, the sole Puerto Rico cast member. He plays King George III. I may’ve even gotten to play king. For a millisecond. See our tour Friday morning on @cbsthismorning
We started our day in Vega Alta with Luis Miranda, father of Lin-Manuel. We talked about Friday night’s debut of @hamiltonmusical and the LAST minute decision to move it. What a story! It has inconveniences some, (6,000 tickets holders had to be moved to another show) infuriated others (about 150 ticket holders asked for refunds) & left the crew with only 10 days to set up in the new venue. What a story! More on that soon. #puertorico #hamilton #broadway #musical #linmanuelmiranda
