Many of you may not know this about me but I’m a self professed music Addict. I’ve been playing, producing and DJ’ing as long as I’ve been acting. The music that inspires me most is the intersection point of my two lineages; Europe and Africa. When I need to fill my cup up, I go to Ecstatic Dance. It’s my medicine. It’s a safe space for wild liberated self expression, free of all judgment the heady BS. Its a great place to practice giving less fucks about what other people think and listing to your body. This Sunday the 16th June I have the privilege of playing @ecstaticdancela Come join me for a diverse odyssey through the African continent exploring the provocative sounds emerging from the #globalbass music scene with samples ranging from Afrohouse, Tropical Bass, Dancehall and Hiphop. It’s a sweaty throw-down that will leave you on a drug n alcohol free high! Event page link in bio🔥🖤🔊💃🏾💦💥

This Man is Eddie Mabo. 27 years ago today he forced the High Court of Australia overturn a legal doctrine called ‘Terra Nullius’ or ‘land of no-one’. This law asserted that indigenous men, women and children where not actually people but part of the flora and fauna, and thus, could not own land. I’m going to say that agin: only 27 years ago, indigenous Australians were still plants and animals in the eyes of the law. That is likely within the lifetime of most of you reading this. Thanks to the life work of this man #Mabo the needle has started to inch towards reconciliation. However, the genocide of indigenous people and their culture continues today, so in memory of this King, I want you to spend a moment today to find out who’s land you’re living on and post it in the comments below. Almost all of us are living on stolen land. #maboday #landrights #whitesupremacy #indigenousrising #thankyou ❤️💛🖤

I learnt this today from the wise @rickwriterrenegade, “The very first #MemorialDay was on May, 1, 1865 in Charleston, S.C. when formerly enslaved Africans held a ceremony to honor 257 dead Union Soldiers who had been buried in a mass grave in a Confederate prison camp. They spent the next two weeks digging up each body and giving them a proper burial to honor them for fighting and dying for their freedom. The gracious African-Americans then held a parade of 10,000, led by a procession of nearly 3,000 black children dancing, singing and marching in celebration. Yet despite its origins, the African-American impact on the shaping of Memorial Day is mostly forgotten and ignored by the mainstream.” In the @theshadowleague. #black origins of #MemorialDay

I’m reposting this because of the one sided narrative that’s taking place in the media right now. I’m right there with @shaunking A loss of a loved one is always painful but let’s not remember these men as anything other then who they were. This is how we evolve. Let’s learn from the mistakes of our ancestors not paint over them... #Repost ・・・ Big facts. Listen, I agree with allowing people to mourn in peace. I do. But if your loved one was directly involved in the oppression and brutalization of my loved ones, then I might have to chime in. Listen, I know George HW Bush was “more civil” than Trump. But he was a civil oppressor. He explicitly oversaw and grew the war on drugs as Head of the CIA, VP for 8 years, and President for 4 more. His racist Willie Horton campaign ad is held as perhaps the most bigoted campaign ad in American history. His role in military scandals and unnecessary wars that cost thousands of lives is real. Again, I get that compared to Trump he has manners, but that’s it for me. He presided over the empire and made sure he never took the foot off of our necks in the process. I’m not glad he’s dead. I don’t celebrate. None of that. I won’t be sharing classless memes. But I also won’t be silent about meaningful critiques. That’s all. Let the debate begin!

#Repost @mspackyetti ・・・ swipe to see history repeated: 2018, tear gas @ the US-Mexico border 2016, tear gas @ Standing Rock 2014, tear gas in Ferguson ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Surrendering for the asylum process at the border is a fully legal act. So is first amendment protest. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Unless, of course, your skin is brown, it seems. ::: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “Tear gas under the Geneva Convention is characterized as a chemical warfare agent, and so it is precluded for use in warfare, but it is used very frequently against civilians,” said Sven-Eric Jordt, a nerve gas expert at Yale University School of Medicine. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “That’s very illogical.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ::: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It was summer 2015. The STL police had killed at least 7 unarmed black men in a year. On this day, STL City police had killed Mansur Ball-bey in his own backyard at Page & Walton, a block from my church. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So, the Ferguson protestors and local activists showed up as we always do. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And they tear gassed us again. This time, they demanded the street be cleared-and then rode up and down the street gassing the sidewalks even though we had complied. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @wyzechef and i had to run into a nearby friend’s house; my 80 year old Godmother was trapped inside her walk-up duplex. And because it was a hot summer day, the doors & windows of my church were open-and gas drifted into where my mother was teaching Bible study. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ::: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A week later, I was at work, meeting with @thelookbykeo, and all week, I had sounded like a pack-a-day smoker even though I’ve never touched a cigarette in my life. Shaterra insisted I cancel my afternoon & go to the doctor. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ::: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was diagnosed with a bruised lung from the gas exposure. The doctor was sure that the most recent gassing contributed. She wasn’t sure if previous gassings did also-there is little long term research on the effects of this chemical, because there are “so few victims.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ They look pretty intent on growing the number to me.

Rest in Power Stan. Your words are more relevant today then when you penned them. This is worth reading twice. “Let's lay it right on the line. Bigotry and racism are among the deadliest social ills plaguing the world today. But, unlike a team of costumed super-villains, they can’t be halted with a punch in the snoot, or a zap from a ray gun. The only way to destroy them is to expose them—to reveal them for the insidious evils they really are. The bigot is an unreasoning hater—one who hates blindly, fanatically, indiscriminately. If his hang-up is black men, he hates ALL black men. If a redhead once offended him, he hates ALL redheads. If some foreigner beat him to a job, he’s down on ALL foreigners. He hates people he’s never seen—people he’s never known—with equal intensity—with equal venom. Now, we’re not trying to say it’s unreasonable for one human being to bug another. But, although anyone has the right to dislike another individual, it’s totally irrational, patently insane to condemn an entire race—to despise an entire nation—to vilify an entire religion. Sooner or later, we must learn to judge each other on our own merits. Sooner or later, if man is ever to be worthy of his destiny, we must fill out hearts with tolerance. For then, and only then, will we be truly worthy of the concept that man was created in the image of God–a God who calls us ALL—His children.

#Repost @chakabars ・・・ Every time I’ve been to France I’ve experienced crazy racism, even worse than the USA & the UK but, there are so many good people there who aren’t like that. It’s for those people to change the country. Former French president Jacques Chirac acknowledged that "Without Africa, France will slide down into the rank of a third [world] power." Chirac's predecessor François Mitterand already prophesied in 1957 that "Without Africa, France will have no history in the 21st century." $450 billion goes out from the 14 French speaking African countries each year to repay the French for decolonisation. After they ripped up Togo for kicking them out, the other French speaking African countries agreed to pay a indefinite colonial debt. Don’t you think it’s time for change? 🇫🇷 @paulpogba @k.mbappe29 Also don’t forget what they did and are doing to Haiti 🇭🇹

Proud. Young. Black. Dad. . . . . Respect & gratitude for all the Men who choose to show up ✊🏾 Some days it feels like wading through molasses but we do it anyway. This is the most important job on earth. And the hardest thing I've ever Loved. As a Black man, I am standing on the shoulders of men who were beaten and killed for trying to show up. Men who's children were sold away from them. So we learned not to show up. To protect our hearts. This ends with me. You stand on my shoulders. I am unshakable 👣 👊🏾
