Hindsight 20/20 for my mid-20s: I’m still no expert but throughout those years, I made some deliciously terrible choices, failed forward, didn’t speak up sometimes, spoke too soon other times, felt paralyzed by fear, buffaloed through that s***, and came out the other side. Storms are inevitable and I think being a young 20 something trying to make it in NYC definitely qualifies as a storm so...thanks for the lessons and bring on what’s next. Maybe in my late 20s I’ll finally learn how to poach an egg or something.
TODAY. AUGUST 11. Is your LAST DAY to drop off materials for #operationbackpacknyc at the August Wilson Theater stagedoor! Thank you to everyone who has donated in person, sent packages if you couldn’t deliver in person, and spread the word of @voagny’s commitment to preparing all foster students of NYC for their first day. Giving children the supplies they need to succeed within the educational system is the first step to breaking the cycle of poverty and we are so grateful to everyone who has helped our @meangirlsbway drive!
North Shore kids love their backpacks...but especially when we’re getting them ready for young ones who may not have had fresh shiny supplies on the first day if it weren’t for #operationbackpacknyc & @voagny. We will still be collecting at the stagedoor until August 11!
“Can you take a photo of me in front of this bus?” “Sure, do you drive it?” “Um...sort of?” -today on 54th Street.
These are just two of the incredible womxn who made last night a possibility. To the rest of the troops led fearlessly by @loralee_gayer, @kelli_barrett, and many more: I salute you. It is an honor to be a part of your @hystericalwomxnssociety. Last night raised over $55,000 for the @nyclu & @abortionfunds. There is power in numbers, strength in sisterhood, and much more work to be done. Onward!

It may be a little late but this week’s #womancrushwednesday is the insightful and delightful @coralineflower. Read on for more about this Wonder Woman! @meangirlsbway •••••••••••••••••••••••••• •••••••••••••••••••••• Name: Bria J Williams-Beltran “Williams-Beltran because I recently got married on October 3rd! And I debuted on October 9th in Mean Girls. • Hometown: “I am originally from Washington D.C. but moved to Fort Washington, Maryland and lived there until I moved to NYC for college in 2011. I didn’t LOVE college…but I did love New York City. It’s my home.” • Life Motto: “Take it a day at a time and be open and grateful. It’s easier said than done, but I try to keep that in mind. Especially when I was joining this show while preparing to get married, I remember thinking ‘This is too much, I bit off more than I could chew.’ But I just kept reminding myself: one day at a time.” • What do you love about yourself: “I love that I enjoy assisting people and helping people see the beauty in themselves. I always want to remind people of the amazing qualities that they possess, because I think we all forget those things. I think it stems from the fact I’ve spent a lot of time in my life being super critical of myself. I’m most hard on myself, and I’m trying to let that go. When I have good days, when I’m able to cancel negative thoughts and continue forward: that feels great. And I try to remind people of that feeling because I know what it feels like to eat yourself up inside…and it’s not a great way to live.” • Last book you read: “THE SHOEMAKER’S WIFE. I think it was Gianna’s book! I loved it because it was the story of an immigrant woman and man who moved to NYC in the 1900s. It was inspirational to read about her perserverence. It was reassuring because I think in movies and media, we romanticize what it’s like to fall in love with someone from another country. But we never show the sacrifice and struggle it takes; it can be very hard. You have to be willing to give up everything and BE everything for this other person: you become their only family, you are taking on the responsibility of their health and happiness.•CONTINUED IN COMMENTS

About a month ago, I reached out to the @africanlibraryproject to see if I could host a book drive for Cady Heron’s hometown(country) of Kenya. This incredible non-profit did one better and matched me with a school an hour and a half away from the Maasai Reserve, where CH grew up. From there, I was in awe at how quickly our fans and family at the August Wilson got on board with my plan to raise at least 1,000 books to start a library in Migori County. It took a lot of shlepping, two borrowed grocery carts, 24 recycled boxes and a mountain of duct tape....but our library has been shipped! Cheers to everyone who helped make it happen, and stay tuned for hopefully more drives happening in the Broadway community soon! #africanlibraryproject #oursharedshelf #broadwaybooks

It’s #superwomansunday @meangirlsbway and this week, it’s the girl who literally can do it all, our fearless swing @brittnich3! •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Name: Britt Nicole Nicholas (Swing) • From: “I grew up in Newport News, Virginia. My parents are still there but they’ve traveled everywhere following along with me to see whatever show I’m in.” • Celebrate you! What do you love about yourself?: “I think I’m a really strong person and a fighter. Sometimes to a fault; I’ll be strong for everyone else and keep emotions inside. In high school, I went through an era of depression where I didn’t know how to handle everything...it was about a year long fight and I had to dig deep to get through it. But I did. Dance helped a lot.” • Life motto: “‘What is for you will not pass you.’ It applies to everything; going through the trials and tribulations of life is inevitable. But if something is FOR you, it will arrive without you having to change yourself.” • Last book you read: YOU ARE ENOUGH by Mandy Hale • Female role model: “My mom. She literally is superwoman. She raised three kids and had a full time job; and somehow she had time to make dinner for us every night, iron our clothes every morning AND enroll in online school. And now, I realize how amazing that is, because I’m an adult and just trying to keep my head above water. She did it all. Also, Michelle Obama. She is so unapologetically herself. And that is very rare. Especially in the environment that she is a part of. Surrounded by men, surrounded by white men, she held her head high and accomplished so much.” • Finish the sentence, “If women ran the world-“: “The world would be more loving and organized. We’re pros at getting it done. With empathy.” • One sentence message to your high school self: “STOP WORRYING WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK ABOUT YOU. Bottom line. Part of my issues were caring so much about what people thought about my personality, my looks. But who cares? Just do you.” • What’s a positive change you’ve made since high school?: “I am so much more comfortable with myself, the opinions I hold, and the life I want to lead. • CONT IN COMMENTS

I didn’t get a chance to interview one of the amazing ladies @meangirlsbway today so instead I’m #womncrushwednesday -ing on this song. To all the women who have been told they’re a liability and, even more so, the women who don’t speak up and stand up because they worry they will be called such....this is a song for you. Being honest, being strong, being true are not liabilities. They are gifts. #womancrushwednesday

It’s #womancrushwednesday @meangirlsbway and this week it’s our new warm, real, & intelligent fetch friend, @krystinaalabado! ••••••••••••••••• Name: Krystina Alabado, but my married name is Krystina Lenzi • From: “I grew up in Phoenix, AZ until I went on tour with Spring Awakening when I was 18.” • Celebrate you! What do you love about yourself?: “I‘m genuinely a very empathetic person. I really care about how people feel, and I don’t feel good until I know someone is okay. I’m a caretaker. Even with people I’ve had trouble with in my life, I always choose to wish them forgiveness. I never want someone to be in pain just because they’ve put me through pain.” • Life motto: “I guess it changes a lot but my motto for this last year has been, ‘Lead with love.’” • Last book you read: “I read a lot of self-help books but the one I always go back to is THE POWER OF NOW, by Eckhart Tolle I love the idea of understanding and accepting your circumstances in the moment: there are a million things going on in everyone’s life, but his book stresses the idea of focusing on what’s happening right in front of you and around you in the moment.” • Female role model: “My mom. She’s an immigrant who moved to the United States when she was 30 from Beirut. She’s survived literal wars and so much loss, she’s had a LIFE. And yet her positive outlook on everything stays intact. She’s strong on the outside but even stronger on the inside. She refuses to succumb, and it’s inspiring to watch.” • Finish the sentence, “If women ran the world-“: “WHEN women rule the world, there will be a lot more understanding.” • One sentence message to your high school self: “I got bullied a lot in high school. And I wish I could say to myself, then, “None of this matters.” But, in that time of my life, it so did. So I guess I would tell my high school self, “You are enough.” Regardless of the people and pressures around you. I had an old high school classmate come to see the show recently, and she told me after the show, “It was weird to see you in a show about high school, because you were one of the only people who was nice to me in high school. And I will never forget that.” CONT IN COMMENTS
Happy one year ya freak. Plus a new fetch friend to usher in year dos!! ALSO: when was the last time you saw a front of house with 5 (count that FIVE) women front and center?!

“yeah, just look for the two idiots in the matching lamb wool collars and then take a left.” I get to sing with this sweet hooman bean tonight! Yes I know we sing together every night but today...IT’S SONDHEIM. SONDHEIM, PEOPLE! See you @2stnyc!
This seems appropriate. The Cady Tribe is going to miss you @teeboyich. I loved getting to share her story with you; knowing the jungle freak held such a special place in both of our hearts. Onwards and up, be fearless. 👚🦁
Contrary to the serious, “summoning the Dark Lord” vibes of this photo, I love teaching. And I’ve been lucky to be teaching for @broadwayworkshop since my first year in the city. I am grateful for the many students I’ve had over the years and all the lessons they have unknowingly taught me: that failing forward is not just beautiful but necessary, that vulnerability is the the most daring form of bravery and that “Journey to the Past” is truly just one of those songs we will never grow tired of. #broadwayworkshop
It’s #womancrushwednesday @meangirlsbway! Every Wednesday, I’m going to interview one of our badass female cast or creative team members with just a few questions. This girl was on for Regina tonight, so I got to interview the sweet, silly and fierce @ashdelarosa between acts! Let’s spread some love & celebrate one another! ************************************************** Name: Ashley Francis De La Rosa (Standby for Regina, u/s Gretchen) “My dad’s name is Francisco, so it’s a family name.” From: Born in Washington Heights, raised in Orlando, FL. • Celebrate you! What do you love about yourself?: “I love that my friends feel they can always come to me for advice. I listen and I try not to tell them what to do, because I never want to be too judgmental. Though I used to be, until I started therapy. I realized I was judging other people, but I was even harsher on myself. I also love that I eat healthy and enjoy taking care of myself. I have a big sweet tooth...but I love fruits and veggies haha.” • Life motto: “‘If you worry, you suffer twice.” Growing up, and still today, I had anxiety and I used to worry about everything. I realized doing so was preventing me from enjoying the actual present in front of me.” • Last book you read: HOW TO DATE MEN WHEN YOU HATE MEN “It’s super funny, but I also learned a lot. It made me see things differently with guys; as women, we are taught social rules and constructs. But, this book made me realize men are taught those “roles” too. They feel as much pressure as we do to adhere to an idea of masculinity.” • Female role model: “Michelle Obama. Her compassion inspires me.” • Finish the sentence, “If women ran the world-“: “....there would be less war. Of any kind.” • One sentence message to your high school self: “Follow the dream, not the opportunity.” I went to school for chemistry at first, and then realized I was suppressing my dream of doing theater. I wish I had listened to myself and followed that passion from the get go.” • What’s a positive change you’ve made since high school?: “I’ve learned that loving myself isn’t showing off. You can love yourself and not be full of yourself.” •
Girls night on Broadway.
I’m late on #womancrushwednesday so how about #superwomansaturday? And of course, no better person to start with than THIS super human girl, @jksaxer! Let’s spread some love & celebrate one another! ************************************************** Name: Jonalyn Kay Saxer (Taylor Wedell, u/s Cady & Regina & Karen. THATS RIGHT PEOPLE. ALL. 3) From: Agora Hills, CA. Celebrate you! What do you love about yourself?: “I always try to be kind and positive. And I love my hair and am proud of my upper body strength haha. But I never feel like I’m done improving myself; so, I love these things, but I’m still a work in progress.” Life motto: “With a cup of coffee and a love for what you do....you can do anything.” Last book you read: THE RAINWILD CHRONICLES by Robin Hobb Female role model: “My mom. Because she’s a ridiculously hard worker and the amount of stuff she commits to and the care she puts into everything she does is how I try to lead my life.” Finish the sentence, “If women ran the world-“: “....everything would run much smoother. I think ego wouldn’t be as big of an issue.” One sentence message to your high school self: “Don’t be afraid of being yourself. I always felt like I was hiding parts of myself to be “good enough” for my friends.” What’s a positive change you’ve made since high school?: “I’m not ashamed of the things that make me ME. Now I’m very happily able to let people know how weird I am right away. Like, how much I love Princess Aurora.”

It’s #womancrushwednesday @meangirlsbway! IT. IS. BACK. Every Wednesday, I’m going to interview one of our badass female cast or creative team members with just a few questions. Let’s spread some love & celebrate one another! •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••Name: Ixchel Irene Cuellar (Swing) From: San Francisco, CA. “My mom is Irish from Long Island, and my dad is Mexican from San Antonio, TX.” Celebrate you! What do you love about yourself?: “I love that I can see all sides to a story. Nothing is black and white, everything has Lang sides. And. I love my curly hair. I used to flat-iron it every day in high school, now I leave it alone.” Life motto: “Nothing to prove, only to share.” Last book you read: BECOMING MICHELLE OBAMA by Michelle Obama. “I wept when she and Barack had their first kiss, because I kept thinking ‘I know how this story ends!!’” Female role model: “Frida Kahlo. She is, obviously, a dope artist. She’s also half-Mexican, half-European like me. And she had a bus rail go through her back in a terrible accident and she still continued to make art.” Finish the sentence, “If women ran the world-“: “....we would have more health care options.” One sentence message to your high school self: “Trust your journey.” What’s a positive change you’ve made since high school?: “I’ve learned to see people where they’re at and know that there’s always room for growth. I feel like in high school it was easy for me to judge and say “Well he/she is just this way.” But now I know there are so many other factors that contribute to a person behaving the way they do. Everyone has their own story.”
