Games have key turning points and we have cameras behind the goal to hopefully capture goals and saves at other angles. England won a penalty, and this would have put them back on level terms. But USA 'keeper @alyssanaeher saved it, and sent them into the final instead. The third #FIFAWWC 📸 choice of @rheathcote. 👐💪
Pia Sundhage has named her first squad as coach of @selecaofemininadefutebol. It includes Formiga and @martavsilva10, for a tournament with @afaseleccion, @laroja and @fedefutbolcrc. She told a press conference: I love it here. It’s been great to have this support from the very start. At the airport, someone came to take a selfie [with me]. I love a selfie! It’s such a friendly country. Everyone wants us to succeed. We wish Pia (and the other three nations) well! #Brazil #Brasil #futebol #feminina 🇧🇷🇨🇱🇨🇷🇦🇷
Today's club in focus was launched just over a year ago, and entered the Czech Republic 4th division. The @PragueRaptors are a diverse and forward-thinking club with aspirations to climb the leagues, play attractive and high energy football, whilst supporting amazing social causes. They have players from 17 different nationalities, including Czech, British, Brazilian, American, Brazlian, Australian, Lebanese & Malaysian. Not only have the girls built a winning team, but an amazing bond. As with any large group of people, several players had very tough years - losing loved ones or getting injured. But they stick together. Right now they're in the process of launching a kids academy, with a focus on finding girls who want to play football at a young age (aged 4-7). Keep going Daz, Adela, Sacha, Tala, Maria & team! #womensfootball #community #Prague #CzechRepublic 🇨🇿❤⚽️
"We are @leonifc." @ghadaelhoss takes up the story. We are a group of ambitious and dedicated women aged 17 to 33. We come from many different walks of life but share an innate passion for football. In January 2017, we came together to form a small university team. Under the guidance of a determined coach with a relentless belief in every single one of us, we expanded and took part in the only women's competitive league in #Dubai in the #UAE. Now, we are ready to grow as a team and we want to show the world that through hard work, commitment, and love for the sport, women really can excel at this beautiful game. We always try to take a ‘different’ picture compared to the pictures of the other photographers in the stadium. That difference can be a different angle, a different exposure time, sometimes something that happens away from the action. In this case it’s a different focal length. I took this picture during added time of the semi-final between @lionesses and @uswnt. The US were leading 2-1 with just moments to go. In this situation, players of the winning team often take the ball and run to the corner flag, try to cover the ball with their body and get as many seconds off the clock as possible. Alex Morgan tried this but was very quickly surrounded by three English players trying to get possession themselves to start a last attack. I had a third camera next to me in every match. Just in case to get a wide angle shot when players celebrate a goal right in front of me. In 52 matches I only needed this camera once, but I got this shot of five players really battling for the ball, with the stadium atmosphere in the background. . 📸 #5 from @alexgrimmgetty. #FIFAWWC #DareToShine #PhotooftheDay
Smile if you've qualified for Sunday's @cosafafootball Women's Championship final. #SouthAfrica 🇿🇦 will play #Zambia 🇿🇲 for the🏆, after semi final wins today over Zimbabwe and Botswana.
"I was shooting from the tribune as #Italy’s Alia Guagni had a discussion with referee Claudia Umpierrez, in their quarter final. The sun and the way the two are standing next to each other created one perfect shadow that made me think of the Christ the Redeemer statue outside of #RiodeJaniero." . @alexgrimmgetty latest #FIFAWWC 📸 highlight. 🇮🇹
This season, a record 62 teams from 50 countries entered the @uwcl. Six clubs in the qualifying round - which started today - are debutants. Including #Braga, who beat Sturm Graz 2-0 in their opening game. Parabéns! #Repost @sportingclubedebraga • • • • • • Missão @sksturm: ✅ . 🔜 @apollonladies

OK, ‘just’ a group match between @lionesses and Argentina in Le Havre. There is a certain routine before the matches at this level. You get to the pitch, set up everything, and start looking out for fans in colorful costumes or with painted faces. I saw this girl very far away under the roof of Stade Oceane. She looked like she was completely absent and didn’t realize anyone and anything around her. Just holding up her flag and enjoying the sunbeams. While people are busy talking on their phones or taking pictures, she is all by herself and inhales the moment. . . The latest 📸 chosen by @alexgrimmgetty 🏴. #England #Lionesses #FIFAWWC
Two years ago #OnThisDay, @oranjeleeuwinnen won the @uefawomenseuro. 28,000 watched the hosts deliver a performance that will live long in the memory. A performance oozing in confidence, from a team at the very top of their game. #Netherlands #Oranje #Class
"Women’s football is facing so many prejudices and most of them result from comparing it with men’s football. Not so technical, not so athletic, not so spectacular, some say. In the second I shot this of @griedgeouu of #France and her bicycle kick in the opening match against Korea Republic, I just thought: Yes, THIS is football!" . . @alexgrimmgetty's second 📸 selection from his #FIFAWWC highlights. 🤩👊
Keep dreaming big Sabrina. Don't let anyone stop you from doing what you love. We're with you. 🤗❤⚽️ . #Repost @meandlucas • • • • • • This is my youngest sister in the family. She is 10 years old. My mum was in her late 30’s when she had her. She’s always been my favourite sister. Not because she is the youngest, but because I saw my mother give birth to her, & I got the privilege of naming her. So I called her Sabrina. She is clever, confident and is football MAD. the girl can sit there and talk to you about football, all day everyday. I personally don’t have any interest in it but she absolutely loves it. This year for the first time in my life, I watched the Women’s World Cup because it means something to her. And when England lost to USA, she cried. A lot. She’s played football with boys her own age and older, & shockingly to me and all the parents watching - she is super amazing and stood out amongst the boys, & quickly as the only girl... HIJABI girl there.. gained the coaches and the players respect. At the end of it, she won 3 trophies and a stand out performer. From there, we decided to move her towards a proper team. An all girls team, and the universe works in magical ways because I met this lovely person who actually recommended who to get in touch with.. and the guy seemed so lovely over the phone, literally the nicest person you’ll ever speak to..but upon meeting him - I feel like we weren’t the people he was expecting to meet? And he basically just proved to be SO unprofessional in the end. I really hope that this isn’t a form of racism / discrimination against my sister as she was the only one who was black & of ethnic origin out of not only her group, but the whole tournament. Because that’s the feeling that I’m getting.. I don’t want to get too much into it. It’s just one hurdle we have to face, but we are not going to stop! We’re gonna keep pushing on and hopefully make her dreams come true. Thank God she has great role models to look up to in the Sporting world who are breaking the barriers every single day. * Thankfully, she’s oblivious to it all. she’s just a kid. A 10 year old girl. With a dream. *
Day 3 @cosafafootball Women's Championship saw the following results: Comoros 1-5 Madagascar Zimbabwe 4-0 Mozambique South Africa 3-1 Malawi And for fans of alternative team photos... #spottheball
I was looking for supporters outside the stadium to show the growing atmosphere before the final when I ran into these three passionate fans of #USWNT Coach Jill Ellis. When I asked, they told me the reason of their love for her... they are friends since college and used to play on the same team. It's a small world. Scurry, Venturini, Overbeck, Chastain, Macmillan, Hamm, Akers, Foudy, Lilly, Fawcett, Milbrett. Names that appear in the history books on countless occasions. #OnThisDay in 1996, they guided @uswnt to their first @olympic🥇with a 2-1 win over China. The crowd was a then world record of 76,489. #USWNT #Gold #Champions #Trailblazers #Legends
Rachel Nachula was the star of Day 2 @cosafafootball Women's Championship, scoring EIGHT goals, as #Zambia beat #Mauritius 15-0. Also today, #Eswatini defeated #Mozambique 3-1, and a young #Botswana side beat #Namibia 1-0, thanks to Michelle Abueng. A number of countries are playing either for the first time, or after a long break. This is due to funding from FIFA to Cosafa being ringfenced for this tournament, as well as a U17 and U20 edition. I've known Marta Corredera of @sefutbolfem since she was 14 and playing for RCD Espanyol de Barcelona. Seeing her battling for every ball with @mrapinoe of the USA made me feel so proud of all her accomplishments, and also so lucky of being her friend. After their duel, both wanted to exchange their shirts and Megan had congratulatory words for Marta, after a great game. #SouthAfrica made history with a 17-0 win over the Comoros Islands, opening their 2019 @cosafafootball Women’s Championship in fine style. Rudo Neshamba celebrated her return to the #Zimbabwe national team for the first time since 2016 with a hattrick as they defeated #Angola 4-1.

@gettyimages photographer @hannahpetersnz recalls taking this beautiful picture at the FIFA Women's World Cup: "I remember arriving in Nice and wanted to get some general views of the stadium I would be working at for the next four weeks. I could see there could be an angle up in the hills as the sun was setting. I ordered an Uber and made him drive around until the view was just right with the light." #FIFAWWC #DareToShine
This great shot of @swewnt defender @fischernilla was taken during the FIFA Women's World Cup in France by @gettyimages photographer @hannahpetersnz: "All my games at Stade de Nice had been at night time. I finally had a game in the afternoon where the sun came out and created some shadows on the field, making the decision to shoot up high easy looking for a different picture. I like the way the lines have divided the image into 4." #FIFAWWC #DareToShine

"As Steph Houghton ran back on to the park for the second half, i knew what I wanted to create out of this frame. The cell phones create just enough to make it a nice black and white." #FIFAWWC #DareToShine

Portuguese FIFA Legend Maniche, visited @magic.bus this week, part of the @fifafoundation Community Programme. The Community Programme supports projects and organisations that use football as a tool for social development and education. Working with communities and families, Magic Bus runs a programme in #Mumbai, that teaches life skills and resilience. Children are shown how to ward off the risk of being forced into child marriage or child labour so they can complete their secondary education and go on to become first generation salary earners. We hope many young girls will be inspired when #India hosts the 2020 FIFA U17 Women's World Cup.

@kazcarney today announced her retirement from football, with potentially her last game being the🥉medal match tomorrow. . 🗣I remember reading a quote from Birgit Prinz, one of the greatest female players ever, and she said you keep going until you’ve got nothing else in the tank and I don’t think I have anymore. I’ve given my heart and soul for my clubs wherever I’ve played and especially my country. I’ll miss singing the anthem, that’ll be tough, but also the thing I’ll miss most is just kicking a ball and being like a little kid. 143 🏴 caps & 32 goals. Chapeau Kaz. 💪 #SheDaredToShine

CAPTAIN'S CLUB. The @swewnt captain since 2009, @segercaroline is an experienced midfield veteran of three Olympic Games, four Women’s EUROs and now four Women’s World Cups.
