In the wake of intense situations -- from personal tragedies or hearing news of gun violence in our communities and nation -- it is crucial that we figure out how to talk to each other about what we are feeling and consider certain actions so that we feel more able to handle (and be 💯 comfortable with!) feeling scared. 1. Don't feel like you have to hide what you are feeling. Everyone (girls too!) has the capacity to be scared AND strong. Neither of those cancels each other out. 2. Listen. If you are at home with a young child, create an environment that welcomes conversation. 3. Put down the phone. Change the channel on the TV. Turn off the computer. Sometimes it is good to step away from coverage when tragic events dominate. Take a break from it all. 4. Remind yourself that while violence occurs, these tragedies are still rare events. Reassure yourself, the child, or friend, or teen in your life that their communities and country are generally safe, and that people are generally good. We should all feel confident that although these events are happening, there are many more of days where daily activities like going to school, enjoying a movie or concert, or taking a trip happen safely without a tragedy occurring. LINK IN BIO for the full list of tips for communicating around tragedy that we can ALL use and adapt to connect with our parents, children, and friends, so that we all can acknowledge how we are feeling -- and grow stronger together -- in the wake of what can often feel like overwhelming events.

This month, we turn our minds to how much better sex education can and should be! Let's start with remembering that: Young people are powerful. Young people are capable. Young people deserve high-quality information & education about their bodies. That education should be: Accurate, Inclusive, and Empowering To prevent & address sexual assault, we must give all youth the tools and language to understand and discuss consent, and ensure they know there is no shame in reporting. The #YASHSAct would create grants to improve access to fact-based, community-oriented sex education. This leads to better health and futures for our youth. Ask Congress to make this bill a law! #SexEdForAll #GirlsToo

Our girls had a great time at #TODC Day! Check out these snapshots of how they spent their day on Capitol Hill! Girls learned the importance of representation and that women only make up 23.7% of Congress and the importance of achieving equal representation.
