Day 7. About halfway across the Atlantic Ocean. Very pleasant conditions.
One year ago I started school striking for the climate outside the Swedish parliament, simply because something had to be done. Since then I have continued every Friday alongside millions of others. And we will go on for as long as it takes. #FridaysForFuture #SchoolStrike4climate
Day 6. Sunshine sailing north of the Azores!

Day 2. 100 nautical miles west of Cape Finisterre. A very bumpy night but I slept surprisingly well. Some dolphins showed up and swam along the boat last night!

This week over 450 schoolstrikers from 38 countries have met in Lausanne for the SMILE meeting. I’m amazed how much we managed to accomplish in such a short period of time. It really shows the strength of our movement. Thank you everyone for a great time!! #smileforfuture #fridaysforfuture #climatestrike #schoolstrike4climate

School strike week 50. This is the last day for me in Sweden for a very long time... We are all at Mynttorget as usual 8-15h. #fridaysforfuture #climatestrike #schoolstrike4climate
Team Malizia has of course got sponsors. But for the trip with me to New York there are no commercial sponsors. All commercial sponsor logos have been removed. That was of course a dealbreaker for me. No money or future payments are involved. They offered me a free ride because they support my cause.
Good news! I’ll be joining the UN Climate Action Summit in New York, COP25 in Santiago and other events along the way. I’ve been offered a ride on the 60ft racing boat Malizia II. We’ll be sailing across the Atlantic Ocean from the UK to New York in mid August. The science is clear. We must start bending the emissions curve steeply downwards no later than 2020, if we still are to have a chance of staying below a 1,5 degrees of global temperature rise. We still have a window of time when things are in our own hands. But that window is closing fast. That is why I have decided to make this trip now. During the past year, millions of young people have raised their voice to make world leaders wake up to the climate and ecological crisis. Over the next months, the events in New York and Santiago de Chile will show if they have listened. Together with many other young people across the Americas and the world, I will be there, even if the journey will be long and challenging. We will make our voices heard. It is our future on the line, and we must at least have a say in it. The science is clear and all we children are doing is communicating and acting on that united science. And our demand is for the world to unite behind the science. #UniteBehindTheScience
Yesterday I posted a photo wearing a borrowed T-shirt that says I’m against fascism. That T-shirt can apparently to some be linked to a violent movement. I don’t support any form of violence and to avoid misunderstandings I’ve deleted the post. And of course I am against fascism.
School strike week 49. The climate crisis doesn’t go on summer holiday, and neither will we. #fridaysforfuture #schoolstrike4climate #climatestrike

Today I had the honour of spending the day with Charles Norman Shay at Omaha Beach in Normandie. Charles was in the first wave that spearheaded D-Day and landed at 06:30 on June 6th. He is also Native American and member of the Penobscot tribe of Maine. He is a hero in a way that is almost impossible for us to understand. So grateful and humbled to have met him! #prixliberte

Good news! OPEC calls the school strike movement and climate campaigners their “greatest threat”. “There is a growing mass mobilisation of world opinion... against oil" and this is "perhaps the greatest threat to our industry", they say. Thank you! This is perhaps our biggest compliment yet! #fridaysforfuture #schoolstrike4climate #climatestrike
Hope is contagious! I met with the incredible Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, @ocasio2018 . (She was in New York and I was in Stockholm, but still...) School strike week 44. And happy midsummer! #fridaysforfuture #schoolstrike4climate #climatestrike
In september the UN will hold a climate summit in New York. In december the United Nations conference of parties, COP25, will be held in Santiago de Chile. And this is pretty much where our future will be decided. Because by the year 2020, next year, the emission curve must have been bended steep downwards if we are to have a chance to stay below 1,5 or 2 degrees of warming. After the holidays I am starting gymnasium, like high school. And this is what I really want to do. I love studying. But I have also been invited to attend these two events, in North and South America. And since time is running out I have decided to try to take a sabbatical year from school and go there. The tricky thing is that it’s on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. And there are no trains going there. And since I don’t fly, because of the enormous climate impact of aviation, it’s going to be a challenge. I haven’t quite figured that out yet. But I’m sure I will get there somehow. We will all have to do the impossible. The school strikes will continue next year, and the year after that. We will go on protesting and manifesting every Friday until the world is in line with the Paris agreement.
Yes we can. #fridaysforfuture #schoolstrike4climate #climatestrike
School strike week 43. And even though summer holidays are here and school is over, we go on. #fridaysforfuture #schoolstrike4climate #climatestrike
Yesterday was the last day of elementary school for me. Thank you all the students, teachers and staff at Kringlaskolan in Södertälje! I wish that every child would have the opportunity to attend a school as great as mine. I will miss all of you. Extra tack till Sirkka, Magnus och min mentor Anna Karin! @kringlaskolan @sirkkapersson
On May 24th, once again well over one million students school striked for the climate!! The reports are slow, so we don’t have the exact numbers yet... The next big global strike will be on the 20th and 27th of September, with a global ‘action week’ in between. And this time we also call for adults to strike from their work! Ps. Don’t forget to report after your strike on the FridaysForFuture website! #fridaysforfuture #schoolstrike4climate #climatestrike Photo from Paris on the 24th of May.
”The problem of plastic pollution in the ocean is even worse than anyone feared. There’s actually more microplastic 1,000 feet down than there is in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.” We can't continue like this. #ecologicalbreakdown #worldoceanday Link in bio.
