I first skateboarded in the Air Jordan 1 in 1987. I begged my parents to buy me a pair. I’ll never forget how good they skated, and how cool I felt wearing them. On top of that my heros Lance Mountain and Natas Kaupas were rocking them. So this was an honor to finally shoot for Jordan @jumpman23 in January. I had the privilege of collaborating with some amazing creative people on this @jeffrey_docherty @wavytrillbaby @hntr_1 Thanks to these dudes for making me look good! Philly with the most stylish back smith. More to come.

Thanks to @jumpman23 for allowing @brianaking @colinmkennedy @tom_dull myself and the homies @feliciathesk8r @joelverges @lilshredr @halfmanhalfplant @jordanfisherfilms @jennifer.charlene to do our thing and create some great images. I had so much fun jammin around the city on my board with a camera over my shoulder. Smiles and laughter all day long from everybody. The photos and video for The Ones is on the walls at Jumpman LA all this week. Go check it out. @marucearacortinas ❤️ #skateordie #airjordan1 #1987

For two days the legendary @colinmkennedy and myself followed my friend @brianaking and her homies around LA for Jordan @jumpman23 We kept it loose, just cruising the streets having a good time. How skateboarding should be, not planned. We will be showing the photos and video made from those two days tonight at the Jordan store in downtown LA on Broadway. Come thru! Hit me up with a message if you want to come. Big thanks to @marucearacortinas for making this all happen! See you tonight.

There are a few days in life that can change/direct your course. This 2001 photoshoot of Sandy Bodecker and Tinker Hatfield was one of them, but I didn’t know at the time. Kevin Imamura sent me on assignment for Stance magazine to shoot these two legends. I really didn’t know much about them when I showed up. After the shoot I proceeded to talk with Sandy about the state of skateboarding, my involvement with Savier, and that Nike was going to give skateboarding another shot. Bells went off in my head, I need to be a part of this and I made that known to Sandy. Savier was quickly going down the shitter and I needed a new steady gig. I’m still not sure how it exactly happened, but next thing you know I was shooting the first Nike SB ads. I’m 99% sure Sandy had a hand in launching my photo career for Nike. The one that to this day still feeds my family. Thank you Sandy. I’m forever indebted to you for that gift. Next I want everyone to know something about Sandy. This dude came into skateboarding out of nowhere. He knew nothing about our industry. Within a year he knew more about skateboarding than most. He wasn’t just this corporate kook who was trying to make a buck. He respected everything and everyone in skateboarding enough to learn about our world. I saw lots of other people come into skateboarding and not give a shit about our world. This always stuck in my head, Sandy wanted to learn, he wanted Nike SB to be legit. And it worked. More importantly he treated skateboarders the same way Nike treats any of their other Pros. He treated all the pro skateboarders on the team the way Kobe or Lebron were treated. This was something I had never witnessed in skateboarding before. “Someone who truly respects skateboarders for how amazing they are.” Sandy did this. I think it set a bar for how other companies needed to treat their skateboarders as well. Word got out that Nike SB treated everyone the best. Sandy instilled this throughout all the years of SB. To much to be said about Sandy. I’m going to miss that dude. I’m going to miss running into him randomly. Luckily I got to see him multiple times this year. Always greeting me with a big hug. ❤️ Love you Sandy.

Tiger told me on a shoot that he rode pools when he was a kid. Explains everything. Congrats. @tigerwoods

I was out in Eastern Oregon a couple days ago shooting photos for a job. I stop to shoot some photos of this cool old windmill (randomly had Portland printed on it). I turned around and was about to leave and saw this sign. Monkland... I know that’s where Mark is right now. In his own space, creating. I’m going to miss running into you Monk. Thank you for the last glimpse of your magic.

There’s something about Oakland. The history. The people. The streets. I clearly remember when I first rode the Purple Panhead following Max on his Shovel. There is a certain feeling you get riding this 65 year old machine around the streets of Oakland. About as close as you get to a time machine. I was there. I’m lucky enough to have the opportunity to hang in Max’s shop. I get so inspired every time I’m there. I could stand there and stare for hours. Thank you always for the Oakland hospitality @4q69 @rachelcubed

This one hurts. To see someone who has gave us so much, who has taught us so much, who has so much drive and passion, leave this world, it just sucks. I’m so bummed to think that we will never see Mark shred ever again. But I do feel blessed that I got to grow up in the Northwest and I’ve watched this guy skateboard since I was a teenager. I saw him drop in dark side on a vert ramp in Corvallis when I was 16. Blew my mind. I never forgot who he was from that day on. I was so stoked when I got to shoot Monk, Northwest Legend, at the West Seattle bowl. That was huge for me as a young skateboard photographer that loves Seattle and the Northwest. Mark was always so cool to me as a young kid, something I never forgot. Monk changed the world of skateboarding. No one will ever be able to replicate what he has done. I’m going to miss you Mark, Marty, Mank, Monk. Thank you for everything. ❤️
