Packages of used plastic straws collected from sea to shining sea 🌊☀️🌊 These straws will be used to create the next circle being made stateside. I’m filled with gratitude & hope by the worthy efforts of people supporting the environment. “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has” #MargaretMead
Happy Earth Day 🌍 #RETHINK #REFUSE #singleuseplastic
Mbuyekezo Mpoza the man behind the mosaic. A blessing to work with him & the great Lovell Friedman. Forever grateful for their making an imagined vision come true 🙏🏻
This wonder of a woman provided the beach clean-up straws for the final row of the circle. I’m so thankful to Aani for her contribution to this project & to the world. She heads up & organizes beach clean-ups all around Cape Town through her organization @thebeachco_op Their motto is “let’s do something for the ocean that does so much for us” 🌊🌊🌊Yebo!
A great moment showing the circle & giving thanks to the people who collected the used straws at the V & A Waterfront's waste recovery site. These individuals spend their work days sorting through approximately 16 tons of waste per day, working a 12 hour day. Their target is to achieve nearly two third's of waste diverted from going to landfill. It's because of their efforts & hard work that this can be possible. I call them Waste Recovery Warriors. We need a culture of respect for people who work in waste recovery. We need to honor them as heroes for their amazing & necessary work. Let's recognize & appreciate them as Waste Recovery Warriors!
This little one cleaning up litter from under the mosaic & then surrendering to the sound of music 🎵❤️🎵 #PlasticIsOverParty #silentdisco #beachcleanup Dance party!
