Eternal Legend 🏁🙏🏼
Forever indebted and grateful my brother. Greatly missed and loved. The privilege of our time spent together was filled with a lifetime’s worth of memories that I’ll forever cherish. Thank you God and the universe for conspiring for us to meet. Today we celebrate you, Nip Hussle Tha Great!🏁
I had the privilege of working with @djquik and @officialsugafreethapimp for Quik’s “The Book of David” album in 2011. Checkout the interactive contact sheet and final print at the @annenbergspace. My work is featured along 40 years of iconic work. If you love art, culture, rap music, and/or fashion you can’t miss it. This is visual storytelling at its finest!
In response to overwhelming demand, @contacthigh : A Visual History of Hip-Hop has been extended through August 25th at @annenbergspace. Come see my never before seen contact sheets featuring your West Coast favorites. There are only a few weeks left, so make sure to plan your visit before it’s gone. This is the culture presented on the platform it’s earned and deserves!
Here’s an exclusive look at one of my contact sheets for @groovyq breakthrough project “Habits & Contradictions” album shoot from 2012. The first frames of the contact sheet reveal the original concept for the album cover. They didn’t translate to be very striking so I went into my mental rolodex mid-roll and referenced the iconic 1981 Avedon shoot with Nastassja Kinski and The Serpent. I’ve always loved that image from Avedon for its composition, beauty, and obvious erotic quality. That said, I saw an opportunity to create a contemporary remix of my own that aligned with Q’s album title. The last 4 frames ultimately defined the look of the project and one of them became the album cover image. To see more of my contact sheets make sure to checkout the @contacthigh exhibition at the @annenbergspace until August 25th!
What’s your favorite song off Vol.3?
Today marks the 10-year-anniversary of @nipseyhussle critically acclaimed “Bullets Ain’t Got No Name Vol. 3”. The third and final installment of a very important mixtape series that spoke eloquently and honestly about the streets of LA through the eyes and experiences of Nipsey. I became a fan when my bro @mrdontknow put me on to Vol. 1 and I admired the movement as a fan leading up to our first official collaboration for the repackaged release of Vol. 3.1. This was our first of many collaborative efforts. Since then I knew what we did was important, and I made sure that together we told his story in the most authentic way possible being intentional with every photo we released. This photo was shot in front of Dorset Village with my trusty Pentax 67 camera. Long Live Nip Hussle Tha Great! 🏁
What its been like six years You still lookin for Osama? You gonna send more troops That's your solution to the problem With no evidence, yall never found the bomb But that ain't stop yall from killing Tookie or Sadam A neccessary evil, ain't that the term you use Hundred thousand something soldiers went to serve for you So you bury your people and let them burn for you Over some oil cause the issue ain't concerning you Since 9/11 you been talking 'bout the threat we facin' And how you need a couple billion to protect the nation But look, come to my hood i'll show you desperation Kids dead at 13 like Devin Brown, with no explanation Living in LA every single day It's a war going on outside, no man is safe from But since it's just niggas killing niggas You just turn prison to a business

I remember taking the bus 2 hours to @annenbergspace in 2013 to check out Helmut Newton’s exhibit. Fast forward to next year, my work will grace the same walls alongside some of my talented peers who’ve documented the culture from inception to present date. Thank you @contacthigh for the platform. Let’s put on for the city! 🎥
The chapters are still being written with so much work to be done. S/O to @contacthigh for the phenomenal execution on the book! Another one in the books!
