#Artwork of the day is by @pema_rinzin_artist, who has two works included “Labyrinths of the Mind,” a group exhibition at Byrdcliffe Kleinert/James Center for the Arts opening tomorrow night from 3 to 6 PM. The exhibition’s curator, Sara Lynn Henry, notes in a statement: “Where have our minds gone these days? Are they lost in the cascade of media, digital messages, and commercial/political fractured (fake?) realities that inundate us of late? The artists participating in ‘Labyrinths of the Mind’ have set out to get beneath this cultural surface to explore the inner caverns of the personal mind.” The exhibition is on view through June 30, 2019. #ThrowbackThursday to @evanhecox’s 2012 solo exhibition, Dark Island, inspired by the artist’s hikes across lower Manhattan and west Brooklyn in New York City. The exhibition featured a suite of acrylic and gouache works on vintage newspapers, depicting fragmented views of urban spaces throughout NYC. In this painting, Evan Hecox composes a skeletal vestige of the Navy Yard Lounge, juxtaposing detailed architectural elements with simplified geometric forms, forcing the viewer to fill-in the missing pieces of this visual narrative. Come check out one of Hecox’s newest works, included in Your Favorite Artist’s Favorite Artist II, on view through June 8. #ArtworkOfTheDay is by @louiseblyton. Louise Blyton’s oeuvre taps into the visual language of Reductivism, an aesthetic style characterized by streamlined compositions, restricted color, and a reduction of form and means. Identifying with Reductivism’s simplicity, the artist’s shaped canvases and three-dimensional wall sculptures elevate craftsmanship and process, achieving a compositional clarity that unifies color and form. This work is included in Blyton’s inaugural solo exhibition with the gallery, All the Birds Are Singing, on view through May 4. #ArtworkOfTheDay is by @louiseblyton. To construct her works, Louise Blyton covers custom built balsa wood stretchers with raw linen, adorning them with layers of pure pigment or acrylic paint. This triptych is included in Blyton’s inaugural solo exhibition with the gallery, All the Birds Are Singing, on view through May 4. Here is @kriskuksi’s interpretation of dragon glass daggers from @gameofthrones. Describing his artistic process for this work, Kuksi states, “Observing such captivating quality in these simple props led me to consider presenting them as though they were hypothetically revered as sacred relics. An immediate idea included an ornamental case in which they would be stored: A vessel which would guard them for transport as well as magnify their importance as the use of killing White Walkers. I began constructing the core shape out of wood. Over the next few weeks details were added such as embossed decorative paper, wood appliqués, small figurines and ultimately a painted finish to look as though it is representative of the winter.” #KrisKuksi #GameOfThrones #HBO #DragonGlass #ForTheThrone #BackToArt

#ArtworkOfTheDay is by @louiseblyton. Over the course of Louise Blyton’s artistic career, the natural world has been her greatest source of inspiration. The artist states, “It’s the accidental beauty in nature that really captivates me. A beauty that exists for no one but whoever chances upon it. A small shadow from a leaf across the pavement from above. A reflection of a puddle. Just nature in everyday life. It’s a reminder that you can view the world differently.” This work is included in Blyton’s inaugural solo exhibition with the gallery, All the Birds Are Singing, on view through May 4. #ArtworkOfTheDay is by @heatherday. Printed in collaboration with @marginaleditions, “Chelsea” is a series of 46 unique screenprints. Each print is one of a kind. The artist expands on the process: "The sporadic marks and wandering lines I etched into the plastic sheets in my San Francisco studio traveled with me to New York City last month where they were emulsed onto printmaking screens. At Marginal Editions studio, located on the 8th floor of a rusty, brick building in New York City, I pulled mixed pigments across a screen, smearing their color into the vessel below with a squeegee. I lifted the screen to reveal the vibrant shapes of color beneath. Each printed texture acts like a recurring motif, an idea imbued into each print, but expressed differently in each piece."
