Former President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama’s portraits drew a million more people to the National Portrait Gallery last year, according to museum staff. The Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C., confirmed that the building saw a record 2.3 million visitors in 2018 compared to 1.3 million the year before. The Washington Post reported that workers at The Smithsonian Museum attributed the dramatic increase to the Obama portraits, which went up in the gallery February 2018 @nationalportraitgallery @kehindewiley @barackobama @michelleobama @asherald

From the 2017 London exhibition “In Search of The Miraculous “ The Fog Warning (Jasmine Gracout), 2017 Oil on canvas 96h x 144w in “Others might see maritime painting as a really wonderful way of looking at gentlemen’s leisure, or a certain aspect of Western ingenuity and know-how,” Mr. Wiley explained. Yet to him, the genre evokes an age of exploration that gave rise to sugar-cane fields in Jamaica, cotton fields in South Carolina and rice fields in Georgia, he said. His new works were an opportunity to demonstrate how “we all look at the same object in different ways.” -The New York Times @stephenfriedmangallery @kehindewiley
