Another favorite fall shoot for @hongkongtatler 🍂 I’m excited to share some more of my location shoots in NY and Paris with you soon! When I started photography in my early teens - I was always shooting on location. I couldn’t afford lighting equipment or expensive studio rentals. The forests, parks, streets were my playgrounds. I want to start going back to what I was inspired by all of those years ago. Back to nature and back to basics. What is inspiring you at the moment?
It’s been around two weeks since I last posted on my Insta grid (a record for me!) but I thoroughly enjoyed taking a vacation this year and didn’t feel guilty about it. When you love what you do it’s so easy to get wrapped up in work / forget about taking time off. Wouldn’t you agree? I am currently sitting on a lot of unreleased work which I can’t wait to share when published! For now I wanted to share some of my favorite fall shoots since we are coming to the end of summer! This was for L’Officiel Ukraine at the end of 2017 and remains a favorite in the portfolio.
A couple of days ago wrapping up an inspiring shoot with @officialadeng who is an absolute dream to work with! I love printing my work at the end of a shoot day and getting the team’s opinion on the shots too! This is something I’ve started doing lately and it really helps with the selection process too. Photographers - What are some things you like doing on set and how does it help you?
Preparing to leave for vacation but couldn’t help sharing this shot with you guys! Ive been enjoying shooting more beauty work as of late. My work is taking a turn in a new direction but I’m enjoying the change and embracing the new inspiration coming my way. Model @helenedesmettre @suprememgmt, Make Up by @deborahaltiziomakeup, Hair by @thisisclay, Manicurist @nailsbyamy04, Retouch @studiodigitalspot 🖤
Shades of rouge beauty story with the inspiring @helenedesmettre. This is the 3rd time we’ve worked together and I love any opportunity to photograph Helene’s magical face! Make Up by @deborahaltiziomakeup, Hair by @thisisclay, Manicurist Amy Oishi, Retouching @doctorraw_retouching 💋
Another favorite leading lady & inspirational woman is @deneebenton. This was shot for @interviewmag online a couple of years back and still remains a favorite portrait in my book! This shoot inspired me to produce more black and white timeless imagery. What do you like to photograph and why? Do you feel like you’ve found your style or are you still searching?
I’ll be sharing a few of my favorite leading ladies over the next few days! This was a shoot for @modernluxury featuring the wonderful @gemma_chan. Quite possibly one of my favorite studio shoots of the year 💕
3 of 3: Images that have helped shape my career. This shot for @bazaaruk was my first shoot for them. They had always been a dream target client & I was excited for the opportunity to shoot with the team! After this shoot I started to get more and more requests to shoot beauty with this lighting & style which encouraged me to build another side to my portfolio. I used to want to be known for one thing. After all - specializing makes you memorable right? This shoot made me realize I can shoot several things (beauty, jewelry, bridal, fashion) but my signature style is in the overall mood. That’s what makes me memorable! Embrace change in your work & don’t be afraid to try new techniques!
#2 of #3 - Images that have helped shape my career over the years. I still can’t believe this shot is from 2015. This was a real tester for me. I wanted to do a NY location shoot and I jumped in the deep end. Those that shoot on location know how hard it can be - let alone bright overhead summer daylight, changing plans, tourists & dealing with the heat! You always feel like you’ve run a marathon when you’ve managed to complete a location shoot and it turns out good! This will always be a favorite in my book and has been a favorite of many advertising clients I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and working with. Timeless images never age in your book!
Over the next few days I’m going to be sharing 3 images that helped shape or define my career path and I want to know what yours are too - without sharing images tell me what helped change this for you? 1 of 3 - This is the first one - my first cover for a BAZAAR title. Before this, I hadn’t felt like my work fit in studio in environments and I was pushing myself to find my style. After this shoot I was inspired to explore more beauty work. This is why content building and exploring techniques is super important, no matter what level of photographer you are!
How many of you own my new series ‘The Business Of Fashion Photography’? 📸 What section are you on? I’m wondering how many of you have started watching already! A quick recommendation to start with the ‘Business Fundamentals’ section then work through to the end - ending on ‘The 30 Day Challenge’. Don’t forget to rewatch & take notes! 📝 * Image from my rooftop shoot (seen on the series) in collaboration with influencer and model @khrystyana
I’ve probably shared this twice before.. but who cares! I love going through older work & re-sharing favorites! In a world where the expectation is to constantly produce new & fresh content it’s nice to sit down, take a break and go over old favorites and remind yourself why you do what you do! This is a favorite shot from a shoot last year featuring @anastasijati for @hellofashion_uk. All the metallic goodness! 💎
The Business Of Fashion Photography just launched! All content is now available to watch! www.larajadebusiness.com I’m so proud of this project! It has been months of work - production, endless conversations with friends & family & then a busy week of filming (I’m sure they all got sick of me talking about it - especially my husband who helped with the keynotes and listened to me through it all!). Big thank you to @suebrycephotographer and @theportraitmasters team for believing in the series concept and me as an educator. I’ve wanted to create a course like this for a long long time because there’s nothing else like this out there. For some reason the business/marketing side is hush hush in my industry and I’ve never understood why. I truly hope this course is inspiring to you & changes the way you run & market your business! Enjoy the series! - LJ
Another inspirational shoot added to my new online education series ‘The Business Of Fashion Photography’ was this shoot featuring designer @daniellefrankelstudio’s clothing. This section of the course is all about creating brand awareness by collaborating with brands and building a successful portfolio to attract clients. The shoot goes hand in hand with the marketing section of the website to show you how I put business into practice even on creative shoots! The launch date is TUESDAY & I can’t wait for you to see all of the content we’ve created for you! Amazing shoot team credits! Model is @laurel_magin, Make Up by @deborahaltiziomakeup & Hair by @linhhair. All looks by the inspirational @daniellefrankelstudio 🌸
Only 3 more days to get exclusive access to my Facebook study group while my new series ‘The Business Of Fashion Photography’ is on pre-order! www.larajadebusiness.com Why purchase now? The group is only available to those who order before the course launch date of 9th July. This is a great opportunity to join likeminded people and ask questions - while watching the new series and making changes in your business & marketing plan. The group will run for 3 months. I’ll also be creating fortnightly live videos to answer questions! Your marketing plan should be just as creative as your photography if not more! I can’t wait for you to see what content we created for this series!
A shoot created for my new course ‘The Business Of Fashion Photography’ sharing how I shoot from my home studio. I think a big misconception is that you need a professional studio to be classed as a ‘professional’ in this industry. It’s not true. I chose a long time ago to keep my overheads low and choose a space in Brooklyn that worked for me - to be able to constantly produce content without the pressure of spending hundreds - thousands a month on studios. For larger shoots there’s always the option of booking studios & course many of my clients have their own preference on where to shoot! What matters is the images you produce and how professional YOU are. I can’t wait for you to see this section of the course!! I’ve also included a downloadable list of my recommended equipment (starter and advanced lists). The amazing team for this shoot is tagged!
Heather 🌸 from the archives for @harpers_bazaarkz (team tagged). I’ve missed shooting on location.. excited to be back shooting in Paris tomorrow!
I’m back in Paris this week! Its bringing back memories from a shoot I did for designer Monique Lhuillier at a chateau just outside of the city. I was in love with this shoot setting! What are you all working on over the next few days?
The new series doesn’t just feature business & marketing techniques! There is 3 inspirational shoots that share how I put business into practice! This shoot was a collaboration with the amazing @khrystyana who is an all around amazing lady sprinkling her positivity everywhere! (The amazing styling team is tagged!) We were working around awful weather this day & right before this shot was a huge downpour. I was worried we wouldn’t get images but as soon as I saw these shots I was reminded of the shots of Marilyn on a rooftop and I got excited. Not every shoot turns out the way you expect but it’s the unexpected that often gives you interesting results!
Photographers! What are you most looking forward to learning more about with business & marketing techniques? There’s 11 days until official launch but I’ve had so much amazing feedback on my new education series ‘The Business Of Fashion Photography’ and so many of you have already joined the exclusive Facebook study group! I’m looking forward to growing this community more over the next week! Early access members get access to this group - after 9th July we stop accepting members so here’s your chance to get in early!
I’ve been doing photography for almost 16 years. Even typing that out is strange. 16 years!! Has it been the easiest journey? No! Nothing worth having comes easy. Which brings me to say that I’m lucky to have a career I love doing and also help others along the way with my education series & in person workshops! When I started there was no information on starting a photography business in fashion, info on how to get published, shoot production and set know how, pitching to clients, pricing your work, understanding licensing etc.. to say the least it was very very frustrating that there was a wall up and I often felt like giving up! I want to help you gain that confidence in your work and know exactly how to create brand awareness in a modern industry. I’ll have more details for you about the RELEASE of my upcoming online series in the next couple of days! 📷 by @don.ixon
Hands up if you have The Fashion Series! 🤚🏼 Well you’ll be happy to know that the new education series on business will be a great follow up from the first series! If you’ve ‘graduated’ from the first series - this will be the next level but it’s also a great standalone course! There’s also going to be a few exciting shoots too! Any guesses on what topics I’ll be covering this time around? More news in the coming days!
I’ve been sitting on some exciting news for the past few months, it’s been hard not to share with you all! My business & marketing course for photographers is coming soon! This was a really fun project to shoot in NY with The Portrait Masters crew. After I released my first course ‘The Fashion Series’ (which covers the creative side of the fashion photography industry) I immediately started planning the next one. There is nothing like this out there and that’s why I wanted to take on the challenge. For some reason there’s a curtain in front of the business side of the commercial / fashion photography industry and I’ve never understood why as it’s so open and accessible in other genres! I can’t wait to share more news with you very soon! For now enjoy these sneak peeks and let me know - what do you struggle with the most when thinking of the business side of photography? 📷 by @jencoffin
It’s ridiculous how beautiful @blancapadilla is! There was hardly any retouching here! This shoot was released a few months ago but I still love sharing these. What a great team!
Bringing back some color to the feed with this shoot for @harpers_bazaarkz and @bhumika_arora04! From the archives but still a favorite shoot! It’s been a busy few weeks catching up on work and finalizing and exciting project that I can’t wait to share with you all soon!
The lovely @aliana.king and her beautiful face! New beauty work. I’ve shared this one before but it’s too good not to share again! I am so drawn to black and white imagery lately!
En route back to NY and just remembered I hadn’t shared this image with you all! A recent shoot with @modernluxury featuring the wonderful @dagaziober. I love shooting with animals! Not always the easiest but makes for a fun shoot and interesting images. Do you have a memorable recent shoot?
