To my little on her 26th Birthday: wishing you all the magic this world has to offer ✨
A few months ago I came across @cfda Elaine Gold Fellows @ashya.co and was blown away by the woman behind the brand and their truly distinctive vision. Which is why it was an absolute honor for them to choose @thehelmco as the exclusive partner for their new collection, live now. Check it out.
A Father-Daughter 4th 🇺🇸
This is @thehelmco. These are the women that made today possible. Were it not for @becca.crandall’s steadfastness, @ekahughes’s laser focus, @venessa_rosely’s meticulous eye, @rachelmwaldman’s distinctive taste, @nalimatoure’s creativity, @cschweitz’s rapid fire contributions, the tireless commitment of our wunderkind interns @federicacristofanilli @allylozada and @nikkicomizio, and most of all the extraordinary belief, kindness, patience, and inexhaustible commitment of my supernova too good to be true work wife @juliemaeweber this would all still be a pipe dream. It really does take a village and I am so, so grateful for mine.
We are LIVE! 🥳 The mission of The Helm is to make it easy to invest in women and, since 2018, we've done that by investing close to $1.5 million in 11 of the most promising female founders in the country via our venture fund. Today, we’re introducing the next stage of our company: our curated contextual e-commerce platform. Through our new site, we tell the stories of innovative women entrepreneurs across categories, and we sell their products in our shop. We’ve onboarded 80+ incredible women-owned brands—from CFDA Award winners to emerging designers—and have dozens more arriving in the coming weeks. Even better, a portion of our profits will be reinvested into female entrepreneurs via our next fund. It’s been a dream come true seeing this out in the world and we look forward to hearing what you think!
These women! These women have spent decades on the frontlines building communities for sexual assault survivors and living in tents to protect elephants and black rhinos. These women have built and guided some of the world’s leading organizations, advocated tirelessly for and invested in change, brought solar energy to nearly 100 countries, and are master coaches. These women are reimagining industries and systems built on oppression, founding and exiting companies, and making history as the first First Lady in a country to remain in the paid workforce while her husband was in office. These women cheer loudly and challenge lovingly, model what it looks like to listen and hold space, to lead without ego, exercise intention, and to contribute meaningfully. These women tell you to be bigger, not smaller, to trust your gut, and stand in your power. These women move through the world every day in the service of making it more equitable. So, if the chance to adventure with any of these women should ever arise, say yes.
They say never to meet your heroes because they are sure to disappoint. I disagree. I've spent a fair amount of time with mine over the last few years but having just spent seven straight days with her in the wilds of Africa, I've never been more confident that's she's the type of woman I hope to be. Though her truly groundbreaking career is inspiring in and of itself, it's her generosity of spirit, humility, passion, loyalty, and steadfast commitment to both the women in her sphere as well as those she'll never meet that humbles me most. It's how she makes every person she encounters, from strangers to dignitaries, feel: important, affirmed, and valued. I feel eternally grateful and privileged for the time we've shared and genuinely excited for the world to get to know her too with the release of her upcoming book Becoming A Dangerous Woman: Embracing Risk to Change the World. I could go on and on (and on and on) about how exceptional @patmitchellmedia is, but I hope you'll find out for yourself and join me in supporting her as a small act of gratitude for all that she does on behalf of women everyday by buying her book here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NCYKLVN/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1
One of the most enriching parts of building @thehelmco has been connecting with the extraordinary women and men who now comprise our investor community. The Calgary contingent has been especially significant in the way they have banded together not only to invest their money but their time, talent, networks, laughter, friendship, and deep commitment to our mission. Thank you to our biggest cheerleader and champion @shelleykuipers whose leadership, enthusiasm, and belief in us knows no bounds for another perfect Canadian adventure. I wish for every founder an investor community as dynamic and wonderful as the one we have now.
A powerful meeting this morning with @kamalaharris’s team about the 2020 election. (Thank you to @thelsd for hosting.) If you are interested in learning more about her candidacy, let’s talk. And for those of you whose minds went straight to “presumptive candidate,” I would encourage you to read Rebecca Traister’s brilliant piece “Breaking: Nobody Knows What’s Going to Happen in 2020.” The future really is ours — but only if you are willing to work for it. https://www.thecut.com/2019/05/who-will-win-2020-election-impossible-to-know.html
#TBT to a perfect moment on a perfect day in Paris.

And so it begins. #2020
Happy 85th Birthday, @gloriasteinem. Knowing you has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. Wishing you much happiness and another waka simba dance around the sun.
Tonight I had the honor of co-hosting an event with @donnakaranthewoman @pabeywardena @karambarnett @maybank @zainabsalbi for @abtofficial’s Women’s Movement Initiative to elevate women in creative leadership in ballet. One key takeaway from the evening’s panel with ABT’s @devon.teusch @gemma_bond__ @jessicalangdance: the upcoming production of Jane Eyre, choreographed by Cathy Marston, will be the first full length ballet choreographed by a women to premier on the Met stage since 1980. Let’s support these incredible women by buying a ticket to the show!
Public speaking doesn’t come easy to me. But telling the truth about hard things does. So, my team, investors, and friends often ask me (to no avail) to speak and share a bit more. Tonight a woman I had the pleasure of meeting also asked for this after hearing me deliver an honest response to the prompt I was given as a speaker at the @her.usa @officialbyredo #InternationalWomensDay event. More specifically, she asked me to keep being honest, because all too often we don’t have access to the whole, messy, ugly truths. It is in her honor — and the amazing women that comprise @thehelmco — that I’m going to try and be a little more public, a little more vulnerable. Because isn’t surviving the realities and sharing the hard truths a huge part of being a woman? Here is what I had to say: (remarks in comments. Who knew insta had a word count?!)
The best decision I ever made turned four today. 💛 (Approximately 7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year. If you are thinking of adopting, do! It will change your life.) #adoptdontshop #fureverhome #dogsofinstagram #rescuedog
One of the most magical and unexpected parts of founder life has been the opportunity to realize dreams I didn’t even know I had. Thank you to the #CheddarLIVE team for welcoming me to the floor of the #NYSE to talk about the power of investing in women. It was an honor. #femalefounders
On January 11th, nearly 100 of the @thehelmco’s LPs, investors, and partners came together to celebrate the ten gamechanging #femalefounders we’ve invested in and to take a sneak peek at the content & e-commerce platform we’ll be launching this Spring. (Yes, you can finally shop products and services from female built and led companies in one place!) The time is now to change the way we invest in equality, and we are deeply humbled by the awe-inspiring community of individuals who have joined us on our quest. The world isn’t built for us. We invest in things that are. The Helm makes it easy to invest in women. Join us. . (A special thank you to MC @patmitchellmedia, Advisor @ajsisson, Keynote @karagoldin, Event Producers @cschweitz @laurenelizabethlarkin — ✨ the entire Helm Team ✨ — our wonderful sponsors @theculinistas @theresetsocial @wellwithinbeauty @axa, and our intern @annajornlid who put together the best gift bags I’ve ever seen 🙌🏼.)
This is 36. 🎂
That time @michelleobama came to @thehelmco’s Holiday party. 👸🏾 “The energy that is in this arena is in this country... It’s not just that you’re here for me. The beauty of what you feel is that it’s what you are experiencing with each other; that you’ve come into this big arena of strangers, and there is a unity... This feeling is real... This is the country Barack and I saw and led for 8 years.... When you walk away, be open to the people you encounter. Assume you don’t know their context. Give them the benefit of the doubt. Open yourselves up to each other. Don’t be afraid... Remember that WE are America.” @michelleobama #iambecoming
From 1963 to 1978 in style. A night of themed holiday parties with my girls.
Today @thehelmco team visited @winnyc_org, a wonderful organization that provides safe housing, critical services, and ground-breaking programs to help homeless women and their children. WIN is the largest provider of shelter for homeless families in New York City, and they serve close to 10,000 women and children each year. They are still seeking volunteers and toys this Holiday Season and could use your support. Please let me know if you’d like to be connected to their team or consider donating here: https://winnyc.org/card-library. Even a modest contribution can help to make their season a little bit brighter!
The lovely folks at @penguinrandomhouse asked me to share some of my favorite female-authored books. This is by no means an exhaustive list but, if you need a good book this Holiday Season, take a look! Link in bio.

I won the lottery of life getting this one as my Father. ❤️ A beautiful evening with the New York Philharmonic.
This March, we are launching @thehelmco’s marketplace—a one-stop-shop for investing in women. Until then, we’ll be rolling out #femalefounder focused content, including our Holiday Gift Guides. The first two drop this Sunday, and you can expect two new ones each week. If you haven’t already, sign up for our newsletter here: thehelm.co/signup. And a special thanks to our extraordinary team who has been working tirelessly to showcase the amazing female-founders changing the game across categories: @rachelmwaldman @venessa_rosely @jiyapinder @juliemaeweber @ekahughes @kingdomsofbohemia @amandaeemily @tesstobi
If you’re not at the table, you’re on the menu. And a lot of people fought for you to be at the table. So, go get your people, and let’s do this.✌🏼🇺🇸 #dontboovote #bluewave #soulstothepolls
There isn’t a picture I could find or words I could string together that would do justice to @meganmoc. She’s one of those exceptionally rare humans that both lights up the room when she walks in and makes you feel like you are the only one in it. Sadly, I couldn’t be with her to celebrate yesterday, but it felt important to commemorate a day when the world got a whole lot brighter. Happy Birthday, love. Thank you for your magic.
Just landed in Atlanta with this wonderful group of humans to #GOTV for @staceyabrams. Because, friends, if you’re not doing everything you can you’re not doing enough. #dontboovote #soulstothepolls
A few of the ADFL ladies celebrating @bethcomstock’s new book #ImagineItForward: Courage, Creativity, and the Power of Change.
Over the past two years, I’ve been asked many times if being an entrepreneur is glamorous. I always find this a confounding assumption because if I were given a thousand ways to describe being an entrepreneur, glamorous would not make the cut. Perhaps that’s changed a bit, thanks to @harpersbazaarus @shopbazaar and @annekleinofficial who generously included me in their #WomenWhoDo campaign, in honor of Anne Klein’s 50th Anniversary. One of few women who founded and owned their own fashion house, Anne was a pioneer and a visionary. Her mission — a celebration of what women can accomplish — is her heritage and one that is so synergistic with The Helm’s that it makes my inclusion all the more special. Thank you HB and Anne Klein teams for allowing me to wear her vintage pieces, for giving me a platform to talk about @thehelmco, and for introducing me to fellow entrepreneurs @marlienrentmeester and @daniella_pierson. It was an honor. ▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️ 📸 @joshua.pestka. 💄 @missdnicole 💥 @jadepframpton @jessnyc ▫️▫️▫️ ▫️▫️Campaign link here: https://shop.harpersbazaar.com/designers/anne-klein/anne-klein-muse.html // Shop the story here: https://shop.harpersbazaar.com/the-edit/the-feature/anne-klein.html)
It isn’t lost on me that on a day when so many of us are desperately seeking the support, encouragement, respect, and genuine allyship of men, I am able to call out my Father, who is truly the best man I know. I love you, Dad. Happy Birthday. 🎂

I no longer have words, so I’m borrowing Rebecca Solnit’s. Thank you, Dr. Ford. I am in awe of you. #believesurvivors (H/T @venessa_rosely)
Tonight 6,500 people gathered at 30 locations throughout NYC, carrying their own picnic baskets, folding tables, chairs, and tablecloths before being ferried to a secret location for the 30th Anniversary of Le Dîner en Blanc. The concept originated in France in the 1980s and in New York alone there is a 45,000(!!!) person wait list. This is why I love New York. And the French. And @goodenoughgordon. #LeDinerenBlanc
