A WIN For the foundation and a $2.2 Million windfall for homeowners! Thanks @sheilakuehl @lacopublicworks (Mark Pestrella) for your support in helping facilitate and easier move-in for those who have burned their homes. Special thanks to @rory.kennedy On our Board of Directors who really pushed to advocate on behalf of the people. 💪🏻############## A County will not charge fire victims for water system improvements made over past years … That marks a significant win for the Malibu Foundation … which went to the Board of Supervisors to ask for waivers on county waterworks Capital Improvement Charges, The specific complaint was based on burned down houses on Pint Dume … but the resolution approved by t he Board of Supervisors covers all Woolsey Fire victims in Malibu and elsewhere in L-A County. Many homes in the Malibu Park devastation area are apparently also covered by the fee waiver. A total of two point two million dollars in fees will be waived as a result of the vote of the Board of Supervisors.#############%% https://www.radiomalibu.net/l-a-county-will-waive-water-system-surcharges-for-fire-victims/ #woolseyfire #resilientrebuild #resilientcommunities #waterworks29

Malibu Foundation believes in climate change. And happy to be a big part in making this happen with @lauradawnartnotwar @margaretkleinsalamon Thank you Councilmember @paulkoretz for your support ! Congrats LOS ANGELES!!! The Climate Emergency Commission is to have five representatives from affected communities; three appointees from local Native American tribes; three policy experts; two youth appointees; one labour appointee; one city council president appointee; and one liaison from the council's Energy, Climate Change and Environmental Justice Committee. The adoption of a Climate Emergency Mobilization programme represents a major step forward for the city of Los Angeles...in taking urgent action to fight back against this accelerating global crisis," said Margaret Klein Salamon, founder and executive director of The Climate Mobilization - the group that put the idea of climate mobilisation into the public consciousness a half-decade ago. #resilientrebuild #resilientcommunities #climateemergency

On June 1 — 3 days before Juliana v. United States goes to court — people across the country are showing solidarity with the Juliana plaintiffs to demand their right to a livable future. Join our Malibu Foundation Youth Ambassadors as they hold their own press conference... our kids have also been affected by climate change, AND WE ARE DOING Something about it #resilientcommunities #malibustrong @collettealdrich @jammalibu @creativevisionsfoundation @rockyourworld70 @therealdavidchokachi @planet._911 @julieellerton @vloggerbella @ampsmalibu @romadowney @lambertigirl @amstramgram17 @angelicafuentes63 @bradleybundlie @creativevisionsfoundation @malibumag @malibutimes @malibu_chamberofcommerce @extinctionrebellion @greenwaveorg @katie.eder June 1st @11am

malibufoundation

Our Malibu Foundation Youth Ambassadors are going to help change history ! Stay tuned for our announcement on June 1st @collettealdrich June 4th is an important day in the fight for climate action. Since 2015, 21 young people from across the country have been suing the federal government for violating their constitutional rights to life, liberty, and property by knowingly contributing to climate change for over five decades. The youth plaintiffs have been successful at winning every step of the way, despite efforts by both the U.S. government and the fossil fuel industry to shut it down. Like Brown v. Board of Education did for civil rights, Juliana v. United States has the potential to become the landmark climate change case of our country’s history. On June 4th, the 21 Juliana plaintiffs will present their argument to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in Portland, Oregon about why this case should continue to trial. This hearing represents a crucial point in the case. It will determine two things: whether the case should continue to trial as the youth request and whether the federal government should halt new fossil fuel extraction projects while the court decides the case. Together, we have the opportunity to make climate history. We have until June 4th to bring attention to the case and make it clear to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals that we will not be quiet as our constitutional right to a stable climate and a livable future is being violated. Join @youthvgov + @futurecoalition in saying #AllEyesOnJuliana! Visit iamjuliana.org to learn more about Juliana and how to get involved. @planet._911 @rockyourworld70 @creativevisionsfoundation @happyhippiefdn @rockyourworld70 @creativevisionsfoundation @katie.eder @julieellerton @rory.kennedy @jammalibu @vloggerbella

Malibu Foundation Youth Ambassadors (“Malibu Green Wave”) are taking their local voice and making it national! This is MALIBU STRONG and a true sign of resilience. ! Thanks @collettealdrich @rory.kennedy and others for being the leaders. Join us! More news to follow. The United States is the world’s largest producer of oil and gas. Since the 1950s, our government has known that burning these and other fossil fuels would cause climate change, but instead of doing something about it, our government is actually making it worse. In 2015, 21 young people, with support from @youthvgov, filed the case Juliana v. United States against the federal government. Juliana is the first lawsuit that has called on courts to publicly declare that we have a constitutional right to a stable climate. It claims that the government has violated our constitutional right to a stable climate by aggressively promoting and using fossil fuels (despite knowing the dangers). On June 4th, the 21 young people who filed the Juliana v. United States lawsuit will present their argument to the Court of Appeals in Portland, Oregon about why this case should continue to trial. If Juliana goes to trial and wins, a court can then order the government to create and implement a plan that would help slow down the climate crisis. Tune in to the livestream of the appeal June 4th at 2pm PT / 5pm ET via the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals YouTube channel. Together, let’s make history and have this be the most watched Ninth Circuit oral argument ever. On June 1st, join or host a press conference in your community to show solidarity with the plaintiffs! Visit iamjuliana.org to learn more + get involved. #AllEyesOnJuliana

One of the greatest tragedies of fires are when artists, authors and historians of the like lose their work. And when it’s gone, it sometimes takes a slice of our own history. And during our community rebuild, I am recognizing this special book to remind us of the beauty that Woolsey took with it. But what Woolsey didn’t take was THIS history. Thanks @rooneyreport for this special book @threemagicalmiles... a reminder of why people moved to this Magical 3 Miles to begin with including those we are helping @seminole.springs @malibou_lake Stay tuned for some upcoming news on how the Malibu Foundation is supporting artists, part of the DNA and fabric of all our communities. @ggemdesign #woolseyresilient #resilientrebuild #malibustrong

We are excited to announce a $5,000 grant that we are giving to @surfriderla They are an incredible organization that is NOT ONLY helping to keep California's oceans clean by putting together volunteer clean-up events, recycling collected cigarette butts. and more, .. but they were instrumental in getting food, supplies and water to fire victims during the peak of the fires. California has a lot of cleanup work to do after the fire, and Surfrider Foundation knows how to make an impact, advocate for a more sustainable community and provide a cleaner ocean for all of us to enjoy. Woolsey affects everyone including kids... @unitedinharmony has lost 100% of their programming and sports supplies along with all of their other equipment that was stored at Camp Hess Kramer in storage containers. Because of MF donation , programming will continue to support local homeless youth: United in Harmony’s signature program is a free overnight-camp, Camp Harmony, held each year in Malibu, and is designed to help homeless and foster children develop positive self-esteem and to provide them with a break from the tension of their daily lives and a place to play freely. We want to especially thank @happyhippiefdn for this support. Our goal is to create a resilient community and as summer approaches, we feel grateful that we can create some normalcy both to business and to kids. THANK YOU @mileycyrus and @liamhemsworth !! ❤️ #malibustrong #resilientrebuild #woolseyresilient
