A beautiful place to call home for a night ✔️ Friends willing to hike 11 miles to this spot ✔️ The @eddiebauer Stargazer 2 Tent ✔️ - - Who would you camp here with? @eddiebauer #LiveYourAdventure #WhyIHike #EBContributor
The sky changed colors as the clouds passed by in the valley below. Do you ever feel like life is passing you by? Like you’re stuck, watching all your peers find success… wondering when your time will come, or if it’s simply too late for you. Well, just remember that it’s never too late to pursue a crazy idea or start something new. Stan Lee didn’t write his first comic until age 39. J.K. Rowling was 36 when the first Harry Potter book was published. Julia Child didn’t release her first cookbook until age 50. Samuel L. Jackson didn’t get his first big break in Hollywood until age 46. Henry Ford didn’t find success until the release of the Model T at age 45. Sam Walton opened the first Wal-Mart at age 44. And Harland Sanders was 62 when he franchised KFC. Those are just a few examples of people that found their thing later in life, and a reminder to not get so caught up comparing your timeline to other people’s timelines. You are uniquely you, capable of more than you know, so start chasing those wild ideas, and be patient.
Arguably the most beautiful lake in Washington, it seems fitting that it lies at the end of a 10.5 mile trail with several thousand feet of gain. The lengthy journey up definitely makes the experience of seeing the lake that much more special… as does sharing that experience with friends. @dani_the_explorer in the @eddiebauer Evertherm down hooded jacket. @EddieBauer #LiveYourAdventure #WhyIHike #EBContributor
Lunch on the go. I’m working with @JimmyJohns to announce their new grab and go sandwich, the Frenchie. Available for a limited time only, this sandwich is a delicious option for any excursion. #GrabLifeBytheBaguette #ad
Glorious morning light in the Dolomites ☀️☁️ 🏔 With its endless switchbacks and epic mountain passes, its hard to imagine a more fun driving spot than the Dolomites. Just hope you don’t get carsick! 😄
Moody weather in the North Cascades and another year around the sun. As is my tradition, I went for a hike with some friends for my birthday and took a picture with the Indonesian flag (I was born in Indonesia 29 years ago today). Originally the plan was a longer backpacking trip, but poor weather shortened that to an overnight trip, and then more rain in the forecast shortened that to just a day hike. But it was a beautiful day in the mountains with friends so I can’t complain 😊 I’m so thankful to call this place home and to be able to share it with all of you. Thank you for following along on my journey. I really do appreciate all the kind words and support I get on here 🙏 So here’s to another year of exploring this beautiful planet we call home, losing so much sleep for sunrises, and showing you way too many food stories 😄✌️
One of the things I loved about Italy was all of the little churches dotting the landscape. Whether in an open field, on the side of a cliff, or just on the side of the road, there seemed to be these little churches everywhere 😊
I love visiting places again at different times of year or in different seasons and seeing how the same place can look so different. I had been to this lake two other times but the water color was not nearly this vibrant either of those trips. I’m not sure why it was so colorful this particular time but I’m sure happy it was. @EddieBauer #LiveYourAdventure #WhyIHike #EBContributor
Last week on one of my favorite trails on the Olympic Peninsula 😊🌿✨
🏰🇩🇪 This place made me feel like I had just stepped into a fairytale… but then I was quickly pulled back into reality from the sweat dripping down my face from running up and down the ridgline trying to find different angles of the castle before sunset 😂 #LifeOfAPhotographer
Sunrise at this famous lake in northern Italy. Despite it’s popularity on social media, this place, and its beautiful water and picturesque peaks is still one of those locations you just have to see for yourself.
Summer nights around a campfire, sharing stories, and enjoying some @CervezaPatagonia.US beer 😊 Looking forward to more nights like this soon! @CervezaPatagonia.US #CervezaPatagonia #ad
Sunrise in the Dolomites. And an unexpected moment above the clouds. When I decide to take a trip somewhere, I do lots and lots of research and come up with a plan to put myself in beautiful places at sunrises and sunsets. But I never know ahead of time how they are going to turn out. Will the light be amazing, or will the clouds be too thick 🤷♂️ This not knowing definitely frustrates me but also excites me. Because I think it is the surprise of a beautiful moment that makes it that much more special.
Sometimes you don’t have to go far to find the best adventures. @Honda has partnered with Outside Magazine to encourage everyone to get outside and explore their own backyards. Tag me in your adventure post and use #MyStateOfAdventure and I’ll share my 5 favorites (tagging you) in a story later this week. #HondaPartner
Sunrise in southern Germany. Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday 😊
It was a rainy day down in the valley so we took a lift up Santis, an 8200ft tall peak in Switzerland, and got above the clouds. At the summit, we watched the fog roll through the valleys for awhile and then spent a few hours exploring the different hiking routes from the summit. It was quite the change in conditions going from the rainy valley to the snowy summit, but the experience of standing above the clouds was something I’m thankful to have experienced. @EddieBauer #WhyIHike #LiveYourAdventure #EBContributor
From a rainy day in Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland. If you’ve been following me for any length of time then you know how much I love waterfalls… so you can imagine my excitement when I arrived in Lauterbrunnen in the rain, with waterfalls flowing in every direction. As soon as we arrived, I couldn’t resist running outside in the rain and taking in the beautiful town and valley. My time in Lauterbrunnen was so short, but was long enough to fall in love with this place, knowing I’ll be back at some point.
I love getting to the summit and taking in the views for the first time, it’s always a nice reward for the work it took to get to the top. For extra motivation to reach the top, bring some @CervezaPatagonia.US to enjoy on the summit 👌 Cerveza Patagonia is a premium beer brand from the Patagonia region of South America. And for every case sold, Cerveza Patagonia will donate 1 tree to be planted in partnership with the National Forest Foundation. @CervezaPatagonia.US #CervezaPatagonia #ad
I had seen countless photos of this village here on Instagram so when our roadtrip route went near it, I knew I had to see it for myself. It’s always interesting to see how places compare in real life to the expectations I have for them from social media. I imagined a bustling little town with other tourists all around, but when I arrived on a rainy afternoon I found a quiet little town, mostly empty, except for a handful of other tourists meandering through the streets. Perhaps it was the time of year or the weather, but the silence was part eerie as the fog danced across the lake, and part peaceful as I took in this view of the village.
After a busy few days of hiking and traveling, I told @CalebSprong that we would do a drive up spot for sunrise and there wouldn’t be any hiking in the morning. But when we arrived at our sunrise location and found ourselves under a blanket of clouds, we had to change plans, and a lazy morning turned into a quick hike and several hundred feet of gain up a nearby trail to get above the fog layer. It was more exercise than either of us wanted to do after a short night of sleep but we couldn’t resist the reward of standing over a sea of fog in the Dolomites. ☁️☁️⛰☁️☁️🚶🏼♂️ @EddieBauer #WhyIHike #LiveYourAdventure #EBContributor
Oh Italy 😍🇮🇹 There are lots of little roadside churches here, but I think this one is definitely my favorite 😊
Our Europe trip continued east yesterday as we picked up a rental car in Milan and headed for northern Italy. We stayed the night last night on the shore of this lake, ate pizza and gelato, and rested up for what will be a busy next week exploring the Dolomites and Alps. There are certain places I visit that I know I’ll keep coming back to… this region in Italy is definitely one of those places 😊🇮🇹🍕🍦
Sharing experiences with friends makes them that much better. So I’m happy to partner with @CervezaPatagonia.US as they launch in the US and encourage people to get outside and enjoy time in nature with friends. @CervezaPatagonia.US #CervezaPatagonia #ad
The Europe trip is off to a quick start as we made our way to London and then Barcelona. While in Barcelona, we decided to take a day trip up through Spain today, stopping by this amazing spot at sunrise. More from today’s adventures in my story 😊
For the past few years now, @calebsprong and I do a big trip in the spring. For this year’s trip he requested we go to Europe and see as much as we can in 2 weeks. So after much planning and preparation we are on our way to Europe with plans to explore a variety of places... from the sunny beaches of Barcelona to the snow capped mountains of Switzerland, this is going to be a busy 2 weeks! And with the variety of climates we’ll be in, it’s important to pack all the @eddiebauer layers we might need. From puffies to rain jackets to shirts, shorts, and pants, we’re ready for anything. See you soon Europe 😊 #WhyIHike @EddieBauer #LiveYourAdventure #EBContributor
I want to spend more time this summer taking in sunset views like this in the mountains of Washington. Anyone else really excited for summer here in the northern hemisphere 🙋♂️ ☀️🏔🚶🏼♀️- @jess.wandering
When you find the perfect lunch spot 😊 I’ve partnered with @jimmyjohns to showcase their new grab and go sandwich, the Frenchie, a combination of salami, capicola, provolone and salted butter in a French baguette. Order online at JimmyJohns.com for delivery or pickup. #GrabLifeBytheBaguette #ad
Don’t measure your own happiness against the happiness others portray. These days it can be so easy to see what someone else is doing on social media and instantly compare that to your own life. But what you see are just the moments someone chooses to share; that sliver of happiness isn’t the whole picture. They definitely have their bad days, or weeks, or even months too. We are all on our own unique journeys through life, and yours is yours alone, so try to really appreciate what you do have and the moments you are fortunate enough to experience without letting what other people share make your life seem any less beautiful.
Standing in front of a powerful waterfall like this has a way of making you feel so alive. The deafening roar of the falls, the strong breeze from the crashing water, and the ice cold mist hitting your face makes it such an amazing multi-sensory experience. Last week, Franklin Falls was raging which was the perfect recipe for such an experience. Swipe for a couple photos of @kylekotajarvi enjoying the falls while still staying dry in an @eddiebauer Cloud Cap Rain Jacket. #WhyIHike @eddiebauer #LiveYourAdventure #EBContributor
Looking out at Mt. Baker, the third highest peak in Washington at 10,781 ft (3,286 m) tall. Wednesday’s hike up Mount Pilchuck for this view has me even more excited for summer.. for more adventures in the mountains with friends and sunsets like this 😊
I was looking through old photos today and came across this one of Seattle, taken on one of my first visits to the city. Little did I know then what this place would mean to me. I arrived in Seattle in May of 2013, just a kid with a camera and no idea where I was heading in life. I still don’t really know where I’m heading exactly but these past 6 years in this city have set me on a path I’m excited to be on. So thank you, Washington, for these past 6 years of friendships, adventures, and growth. I’m glad I get to call you home. #Seattle #Washington
Looking down on the popular Mount Storm King viewpoint. I’m out on the Olympic Peninsula with my family for the weekend and took my brother, @JoshMatti, up to this iconic view. Can you spot him way down there? More from this hike in my story ✌️😊
With 1000 properties now, it is very easy to make a Fairfield by Marriott hotel your base for any trip. This was definitely true in Nashville, I could spend the morning exploring waterfalls east of the city (Images 1-2), the afternoon walking around downtown (Images 3-4), and the evening relaxing on the rooftop bar at the Fairfield by Marriott (Images 5-6). It was definitely the perfect way to end the trip. #FairfieldbyMarriott #Fairfield1000 #ad
Swipe for photos of Columbus, Indiana, the next stop on my road trip with Fairfield by Marriott. This road trip is in celebration of their 1000th property opening. To celebrate, Fairfield by Marriott is hosting a sweepstakes where you could win your own Fairfield experience, including a 5 night stay at any Fairfield by Marriott in the world, airfare, and a set of Fairfield bedding – it sure was comfortable! Visit www.FairfieldStore.com/win to enter today. (Link in Bio) #FairfieldbyMarriott #Fairfield1000 #ad
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the first stop on my roadtrip with Fairfield by Marriott in celebration of them opening their 1000th property. I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect from Milwaukee, but I think it surprised me in a lot of ways. On the exterior it has an old industrial look to it, but then there is this sort of new energy and style to it as well. And then you have the almost tropical looking waters of Lake Michigan, which makes for an even more interesting combination. Stayed tuned as I share more photos from this part of the US with Fairfield by Marriott. #FairfieldbyMarriott #Fairfield1000 #ad
I love it when you can visit a place over and over again and continue to be amazed by its beauty and mystery. #WhyIHike @EddieBauer #LiveYourAdventure #EBContributor
Fall is my favorite time of year and the Olympic Peninsula is one of my favorite places so I’m excited to announce that I’ll be doing another Olympic Peninsula Tour and Workshop this fall with @hikeolympic. Link in bio for more info.
An unexpected moment in the Hoh Rainforest. 🌲 🦌 🦌 🦌 🌲 This elk sighting was definitely a nice bonus after our early wake up that day on the Tour/Workshop with @hikeolympic. We are currently planning a fall colors one for October so stayed tuned for that announcement later this week ☺️
There is just something about walking through a pristine old growth forest that brings such a sense of peace. Knowing that these trees have been around since before you walked the earth and will live on long after you’re gone, is such a humbling experience. Which is why it is so important to preserve and protect these beautiful forests for generations to come. - @christianschaffer in the @EddieBauer Charly Jacket for that stylish pop of color. @EddieBauer #LiveYourAdventure #EBContributor #WhyIHike - *note that she is walking on a trail and not on the clovers. - 🌲🌲🌲
The beautiful waterfalls of Bali… these are just a few spots on a small island on this amazing planet we call home. There really is so much beauty out there… let’s not take it for granted. Happy #EarthDay! 🌏 🌲 #WHPplanetearth 🌿
As an outdoor/travel photographer I follow many similar accounts, seeing the same type of images every day… so it can be nice to break up that consistency with accounts that aren’t super similar to mine. For that reason and for their creativity or uniqueness… these are a few accounts that I enjoy. @combophoto @timeouthomes @urbanjungleblog @kirbyjenner @bryanadamc @the_life_of_aivax @dailyoverview What are some accounts that you like that aren’t super similar to mine?
Don’t be rushed by someone else’s timeline. Their journey is not your journey. Don’t let their success, or their appearance of success, discourage you from pushing forward. Your time will come. Patience.
With its many curves and incredible coastal views, Highway 1 in California has to be one of the most scenic roads in the world. The Icefields Parkway in Alberta and the road to Milford Sound in New Zealand also come to mind when I think of scenic roadways. Which roads come to mind for you? 🚙
Sunset views on the California coastline ☀️🌊 - I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend 😊
I’m currently making my way to Mendocino, California for a few days of exploring on the coast with the @eddiebauer team. One of the main ideas of this trip is #WhyIHike. For me, it’s a number of reasons... exercise, discovering new places, the beauty of a mountain sunrise or epic view... but perhaps the main reason is for the shared experiences with others. As I look forward to the summer and getting out on more adventures, I can’t help but look back on some of my recent trips and be thankful for the experiences and the people I’ve shared them with. These 10 photos are some of the good memories from those adventures. @eddiebauer #LiveYourAdventure #EBContributor
3 waterfalls in 1 location… Swipe to see the other two waterfalls. This spot in North Bali amazes me every time I visit and feel the rush of cool air coming off the falls 🌿✨💦🌿
Simplify. Sometimes when I’m out taking photos, I get so caught up in showing the whole scene that I fail to see the intricate details of a particular area. It’s only when I stop trying to focus on everything at once, that I’m able to notice beautiful details in the landscape, like in these images. - The same can be true in life… by focusing on too many things at once, it can be easy to miss that which is truly important. - - “Only once you give yourself permission to stop trying to do it all, to stop saying yes to everyone, can you make your highest contribution towards the things that really matter.” - Greg McKeown
The roads of the Olympic Peninsula. 🌲🌿✨ If you want to come explore these roads and all the beautiful places they lead to, there are still some spots left on the Olympic Peninsula photo tour and workshop that I’m doing with @hikeolympic at the end of this month. Head on over to the link in my bio to learn more about it. Hope to see you there! 😊
Come by land or by air... either way, you’re getting pancakes 🥞😄 #ihop #AprilFools
