Lynette yiadom boakye @ jack shainman - this show is perfect, deeply funny and thoughtful, any ig picture of any painting there fails...
@nomikikonst is running for public advocate in a special election for public advocate on February 26th and today is the last day that the city will match funds 8x that you donate. There are admittedly a lot of progressive candidates in the campaign and a few have more name recognition (tho the front runner endorsed nyc’s odious amazon deal, is linked to NYC real estate interests and doesn’t have great politics re Palestine) but it’s an important job (the last two ppl to fill the position became mayor and state attorney general) and this position demands someone free of external influence. Except for the influence of righteous fury!!! Look up Nomiki on YouTube debating Satans own Tucker Carlson or going off at the DNC unity reform meeting if you want an example of her 🔥 - I’ve been listening to interviews w her for the last 2 days and she is 💯⚖️ #nomikikonst
so looking forward to this show - @bridgemullen is a dear friend to all - animal, vegetable and mineral (and numinal???) - and while I dislike describing abstraction as radical or attributing it any concrete allegorical content as a way to assert its value i do think the elective affinities / ad hoc motifs in her paintings propose how difference can be overcome in the moment, provisionally, without overdetermination or essence and without flattening into modernist nostalgia... which is a sociocultural / political power we rlly need rn 🧞♀️🧞♀️🧞♀️ #Repost @helenaanrather ・・・ So excited to start 2019 with Bridget Mullen’s ‘Threshold Blues,’ her first solo show in New York. Opening January 17! 💥@bridgemullen 💕 📷: #BridgetMullen ‘The Kiss,’ 2018, Flashe, spray paint, and ink on canvas, 20.25”x16”
“circadian courtyard” up at #untitledartfair with #shulamitnazarian, closing tomorrow - but more importantly how insane do u think I felt after I finished this painting and I saw it was just this emoji 🤪 (detail shots follow)
beyond blurring the boundary btwn abstraction and figuration (yawn) - the best contemporary figurative painters have to manage to depict the overlap of absolutely flat affect and totally dysregulated emotions. These paintings by ebecho muslimova, robin f Williams and sanya kantarovsky are the future of figuration (in my opinion). Loved seeing them at art basel today, made it worth the crowds, so inspiring, wild
eschatological jewelry chest for accessorizing as the end of history susses out what is good and what is evil, Jacobs ladder tincture for helping u metaphysically traverse that spectrum... this and other glam hermeneutics at #untitledartfair today with #shulamitnazarian
#untitledartfair opens today! check out the #shulamitnazarian booth which four of my paintings humbly co-occupy with #summerwheatlillian and #trenton_doyle_hancock - also someone pls buy me that table
