Visit our neighbors @tabularasabar any Tuesday in August for great drinks and delicious food, and you’ll be supporting young people at My Friend’s Place! It’s never been easier to make a difference for youth experiencing homelessness while also having a great time 🥂
Have you ever thought about the importance of a shower? 🚿 For young people experiencing homelessness, something as seemingly simple as a shower can be very inaccessible, often leading to health and safety concerns, as well as creating obstacles to jobs and education. Showers are one of the most requested services from our youth, and over the course of the last fiscal year, we provided over 6,000 of them! 🧼
Hi everyone! Right now, we have a great need for traditionally “masculine” clothing for our youth — t-shirts, jeans, hoodies, sweatpants, polos, button downs, and more ✨👕👖👔✨ As we move through the hottest months of the year, clean and comfortable clothing is in especially high demand. Host a clothing drive at your school, workplace, or in your community, or stop by & drop off gently worn clothing that you’ve been looking to get rid of! All sizes are accepted 💛 E-mail email@example.com to schedule a drop-off or for help coordinating a clothing drive!
Meet Brooklyn! ✨ This sweet girl is one of the amazing dogs enrolled in our Animal Companion Program. Brooklyn’s youth companions have been raising her since she was a puppy, and she has been a tremendous source of love, comfort and support. Through our program, Brooklyn has received everything she needs to be a healthy and happy dog, and now we need your help to continue providing the food and supplies that help us care puppies like her! 🦴 Click the link in bio to order pet supplies off our Animal Companion Wishlist, our message us to arrange a drop-off at our facility ❤️🐶❤️
This Summer, you can support our Animal Companion Program by providing food and supplies for dogs at My Friend’s Place! 🐶 Pictured here is Bella, one of the adorable animal companions who visits us almost every day. Through our program, Bella has received vaccines, flea treatments, and spay surgery, and is given food and water whenever she’s at My Friend’s Place. Like most dogs we see, Bella provides a therapeutic relationship and emotional support to the young people who care for her, offering love and comfort while youth are experiencing homelessness. Click the link in bio to order off our Amazon wishlist, or message us to arrange a drop-off at our facility ❤️ Your gift will support the wellness of these beloved animal companions, which in turn supports the wellness of our young people ✨🐕✨
Surf’s up! ✨🏄🏾♂️🏄🏻♀️✨ 7 of our youth enjoyed an awesome trip to the beach on Friday, which included surf lessons, lunch, relaxing in the sand and swimming in the ocean. One youth even brought homemade banana pudding for everyone! 🍌 Many of the young people on the trip participated in the surfing lessons, and for most it was their first time on a surf board! Great times were had by all, and we can’t think of a more appropriate way to beat the heat and enjoy summertime in Los Angeles ☀️🌴 Thank you to the @childrenslife for providing sponsoring a great day at Surf Camp once again this summer for our youth!
Last Tuesday, Jesse - a young person and Impact Scholarship recipient who has been in the My Friend’s Place community for several years - attended NBC Universal’s “Learn on the Lot” event, where youth had the opportunity to explore various career options within the entertainment industry. In addition to touring NBC’s facilities, this exciting day included a free wardrobe change and professional career counseling 📚🎬 Thank you to @nbcuintl for creating this amazing opportunity for young people experiencing homelessness!
Earlier this month, youth attended My Friend’s Place’s annual Spring Fling prom celebration! Our young people had an incredible time, and we owe a lot of thanks to the talented hair and makeup artists who volunteered hours of their time to help youth look and feel their absolute best! 💇🏾♀️💄💇🏽♂️ ••• Thank you... @taylorrosestudio @xxIvanxx @stylesbyflo @allfouryouhair @divineappearance @gabilopezhair @theglamapp @birdie_gonzales @muapua @ryaramirez @jacobvega @asylumb30 @yasmeinhairmua @beautybylayanna Your support for our young people made a world of difference! ❤️

All of the young people at My Friend’s Place are on their own unique journeys. Their individuality, perseverance and talent inspire us every day! ✨
Next week, a group of My Friend’s Place youth will be going on an exciting surfing field trip to the beach! 🏖 We’re currently in need of new/unused swimsuits and beach towels to help make this amazing day possible 🏄🏾♀️ If you’re able to help, please make sure to drop off before July 10! As an amazing #Pride month comes to a close, we’re sharing another quote from one of our young people! We’re grateful to know that Chal has found her place in the LGBT community, and we’re grateful that she’s part of the My Friend’s Place community, as well! ✨🌈✨
Tomorrow marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots ✊🏿🏳️🌈✊🏼 The Stonewall Riots were a pivotal event in LGBTQ history that sparked the queer liberation movement. Did you know that it was led primarily by homeless queer and transgender young people, who considered the Stonewall Inn to be a safe haven? ❤️ To honor this special day, youth participated in an interactive activity designing personalized “bricks” and together we built our own “stone wall” at My Friend’s Place!
We are only $3,600 away from our goal to raise $20,000 by June 30! We need your help to provide young people experiencing homelessness with six more hours of care, connection, and critical services every week ❤️ Click the link in bio to give today and increase our impact by increasing our hours.
Thank you to our longtime supporters at @kpmg for continuing the tradition of hosting our annual Pride party at #myfriendsplace! 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈 #pride #mfp #lgbtq #kpmg
Our young people, staff and volunteers had a blast today at our first ever Summer Solstice Park Day 🌸 We definitely didn’t let the grey weather dampen our spirits! Youth played kickball, football, cornhole, badminton and board games, and enjoyed a delicious breakfast and lunch ⚽️🏸🏈 Thanks to our friends at @legendary for helping us put together this awesome day!
Happy Juneteenth! #Juneteenth is a holiday in which we commemorate the end of slavery for African Americans in the United States. We celebrated this important day with decorations, a special meal for our young people, a film screening, and an interactive activity that encouraged youth to express pride in their heritage 💚🖤❤️
Happy birthday to one of our amazing champions @giacomo_gianniotti! 🎂 Giacomo has been working with My Friend’s Place for more than four years, and we are so grateful for the incredible support he has shown for our young people. Thank you, Giacomo, for everything you do!
This Pride month, we asked our youth: what does “pride” mean to you? 🏳️🌈 This answer comes from Chris C. Many of our young people have experienced rejection, abuse or shame in response to their sexual orientation or gender identity, which can contribute, directly or indirectly, to them becoming homeless. It is our hope that with the support and encouragement of a caring community, we can work with these young people to rebuild their confidence and self-esteem, helping them realize how special they are ❤️
Youth speak, and we listen. So when our youth expressed a desire for increased service hours, the choice was easy. Starting this July, My Friend's Place will be open for six more hours every week—but now we need your help to make it happen 🌟 In order to increase our weekly hours and provide even more transformative, life-changing services for young people, we need to raise $20,000 by the end of June. Can we count on your support to provide six more hours of safety, care, and connection every week for young people experiencing homelessness? Click the link in bio to give today ❤️
As part of our month-long celebration of LGBTQ youth, we asked our young people the question: what does Pride mean to you? 🏳️🌈 Our first answer comes from Dajuane, who is 19 years old. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing answers from several young people in our community as part of our ongoing commitment to amplifying youth voices ❤️
Urgent help needed! 🌟 Our annual Spring Fling prom celebration for our youth is one week away, and though we’ve received an incredibly generous influx of donations, many youth have not been able to find items in their size. Please consider sending a digital Target gift card to firstname.lastname@example.org, so we can purchase youth-specific items and ensure that every young person feels amazing during this very special evening ❤️ It only takes a moment, so click the link in bio to make a young person’s day!
Thank you to our incredible partners at @warnerbrosentertainment for collecting over ✨3️⃣0️⃣0️⃣✨ pairs of jeans and shorts for our youth! Community partnerships truly make our work possible and the impact of this denim drive is going to be felt for a long time, while making a difference for so many young people ❤️👖❤️
Our youth spoke, and we listened. Stating next month, My Friend’s Place will provide youth with six more hours of services every week. The opportunities this creates are endless — increased access to showers, meals, creative workshops or case management, and more moments of safety, community, and connection. But in order for this to happen, we need your help to raise $20,000 to expand our hours starting in July. Click the link in bio to give today & provide six more hours of critical services every week to youth experiencing homelessness ❤️
The results of the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) 2019 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count are in, and youth homelessness in Los Angeles County increased by 24% in the past year • With more young people experiencing homelessness, the programs and services offered by My Friend’s Place are more critical now than ever before. My Friend's Place is making sure that we are ready to meet the needs of these young people and support them on their journeys toward a permanent exit from homelessness. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing exciting news about our expanded programming and how our service model is evolving to provide youth with even greater support to ensure that we are having the greatest impact possible in young people's lives • For more information the 2019 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count, click the link in bio.
Happy Pride month from My Friend’s Place! 🏳️🌈 Did you know that roughly 40% of homeless youth identify as LGBTQ? These young people are valuable members of our community all year long, but pride month presents a special opportunity to remind these youth that they are seen, loved, and appreciated. Throughout the month, we’ll be sharing quotes and stories from LGBTQ young people at My Friend’s Place, as well as photos and videos from our Pride month activities, and information about the intersection of homelessness and LGBTQ identities. We’re excited for an amazing month celebrating the strength, creativity and individuality of our incredible LGBTQ youth! ✨🌈✨

We love when My Friend’s Place alumni connect with current youth! Jesse (left) was just awarded an impact scholarship to start pursuing his college education, and Sheryl stopped by to meet him for lunch and share some words of wisdom. When alumni share their stories and perspectives with young people, it provides an inspiring, real life example of what the future can look like, and serves a reminder that even after experiencing homelessness, anything is possible ❤️
As Mental Health Awareness month comes to a close, a reminder that each person’s journey is different when it comes to navigating mental health 🌻 We see this every day at My Friend’s Place with youth in our community. What works great for one young person might not work for another, and our team is committed to understanding and creating uniquely personalized approaches to helping any youth experiencing mental health symptoms 💛 P.S. We think mental health awareness should be equally important 12 months out of the year!
In addition to serving youth, My Friend’s Place provides care and support for our young people’s animal companions, and right now the puppies of My Friend’s Place need your help! We’re currently accepting contributions of dry and wet dog food, to help keep these furry friends happy, healthy and well-nourished. Drop-offs are accepted Monday through Friday between 9am and 5pm ❤️🐶❤️ Pictured here is Moca, one of the newest puppies in our community!
Join us this Sunday for @moca Community Day! We’re having an amazing Friday afternoon! Hayden & Isabel, two awesome sixth graders from the Seven Arrows School, brought us 50 pre-packed lunch bags filled with goodies for our young people 🍪 We’re also celebrating this month’s youth birthdays with pizza and cake, plus ceramics workshop and sewing workshop 💖
At My Friend's Place, transgender youth experiencing homelessness are vital, vibrant and valued members of our community. We affirm the importance of ensuring that all young people, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, race, religion or background, can access safe and welcoming spaces in which to heal, grow and thrive - and no legislation will change that.
✨ We Need Your Help! ✨ My Friend's Place is hosting our annual Spring Fling prom celebration, and we're looking to collect formal and semi-formal clothing and accessories for our youth to help them look and feel their best at this special event. This includes dress shoes, ties, belts, button-up shirts, sports jackets, slacks, cocktail dresses, hats, dressy jeans, and tuxedo screen-print t-shirts. If you’d like to contribute, please reach out to Daniel Lee, Development Assistant, at email@example.com before May 31 💛
Beautiful wristbands, anklets and bracelets being made in our newest art workshop! Fashion and jewelry design workshops create unique opportunities for youth to not only engage in a creative outlet, but also gain some cool wearable art! ✨ 💖 To shop for unique gifts made by our young people, and stay up to date on all the amazing art & activities in our workshops, follow @thecornercollectivemfp!
We had an amazing time at yesterday’s Mother’s Day Brunch & Graduation Ceremony for the families enrolled in our Parenting Program! 🎓🍼🎓 The young parents at My Friend’s Place inspire us every day with the time, energy, and love they put into raising their little ones and building stable lives for their families and themselves 💖 Each young person was treated a to massage, manicure, lunch, and gifts in honor of Mother’s Day & in recognition of their completion of our 16-week Parenting Program! ✨ Parenting isn’t easy, especially with the challenges faced by our youth, and they definitely deserved a day to celebrate, relax, and feel appreciated for their hard work! #EndingYouthHomelessness
As My Friend’s Place supports more young people moving into housing, we’re excited to continue building our volunteer project, the Welcome Home Helpers! When our youth transition off the streets and into permanent housing, many are lacking the basic necessities to set up a comfortable space to call their own. From sheets and towels to pillows and placemats, our Welcome Home Helpers assist our youth in turning a house into a home. ❤️🏡❤️ So how does it work? We’ll provide you or your group (be it friends, colleagues or social acquaintances) a wish list of home items needed for one of our youth. Tackle the shopping list as you see fit, and then we’ll deliver the Welcome Home package to the young person upon move in. It’s that simple! ❤️🏡❤️ If you’d like to join our Welcome Home Helpers project, send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org!
Hi everyone! We are in dire need of traditionally “masculine” clothing for our youth — t-shirts, jeans, hoodies, sweatpants, polos, button downs, and more ✨👕👖👔✨ Host a clothing drive at your school, workplace, or in your community, or stop by & drop off gently worn clothing that you’ve been looking to get rid of! Did you know? 🌟 When compared to people with stable housing, mental health conditions are more than twice as common in the homeless population, often due to stigma and the high cost of care. What would our communities look like if instead of shaming and discriminating, we worked to provide care, access, and support? ❤️ #MentalHealthAwareness
We are closed today! We will open up again on Monday morning at our usual time ❤️ If you are in crisis and need immediate assistance, please contact the CA Youth Crisis Hotline at 1(800)843-5200
We ❤️ Sexual Health! We recently completed our first 6-week-long Sexual Health and Wellness Workshop, where we worked closely with a group of young people to provide education, information and support around sexual health and wellness 🧬 The group was led by two clinical social workers and featured guests from Childrens Hospital Los Angeles to provide comprehensive, in-depth sexual health education. Youth participated in group discussions and interactive activities that addressed topics related to sexuality, intimacy, healthy relationships, sex work, and sexual communication in a safe, encouraging and supportive learning environment 🌸 We're proud of our young people for taking an important step to gain more knowledge and skills regarding sexual health and relationships!
May is Mental Health Awareness Month ❤️ At MFP, we encounter young people with mental health symptoms every day and work to provide comprehensive care based on individual needs and abilities, to meet our youth where they’re at 🧡 In fact, homelessness disproportionately affects young people with mental illness, whose families or care-givers are often unequipped or unwilling to meet their needs. 💚 Our goal is to provide a safe place as young people navigate their own mental health challenges, providing support, resources, and safety to help them gain confidence, independence, and wellness, all through a trauma-informed lens 💜 We envision a world where mental health is acknowledged, understood, and addressed proactively to get effective, individualized care to those who need it most 💛 This is just one way that we’re #EndingYouthHomelessness, one young person at a time 💙 #MentalHealthAwareness
April is Volunteer Appreciation Month, and we have so much to appreciate at My Friend’s Place! Whether it’s volunteering solo or with a group, our volunteers help with anything and everything — serving food and snacks, organizing our clothing closet, hosting events and drives, leading creative arts workshops, and so much more ❤️ The work we do would not be possible without them. They are the glue that holds our community together, and we know that our volunteers are making a genuine difference in the lives of the youth we serve, every single day ✨
Our young people had a blast on yesterday's field trip to see Cirque du Soleil in Long Beach! The show was incredible, and most of the youth who attended the event have participated in our circus arts workshops here at My Friend's Place, which made it even more exciting to see a live Cirque du Soleil performance 🤹🏼♂️🎪🤹🏾♀️ This was the first of many exciting field trips we have scheduled for the Spring and Summer, and we can't wait to join our youth in experiencing all the exciting experiences that Los Angeles has to offer!
We’re getting a jump start on summer reading at My Friend’s Place! ✨📚✨ We’ve got hundreds of books, in every genre and on tons of different topics, for our youth to take with them! Or if spending the afternoon reading in our air conditioned safe haven sounds better, that’s always an option, too ❤️ #EndingYouthHomelessness
Every year at our annual gala, we honor Champions in our community whose involvement in My Friend's Place allows us to continue assisting and inspiring homeless youth to build self-sufficient lives. But have you ever wondered what it really takes to be an MFP Champion? Check out this video to learn how @maddieziegler & @kenzie inspire and create community for our young people through their amazing volunteer efforts! You’ll also meet several young people and members of our staff who talk about the impact of community, as well as our Home Helpers program. Video by @livinglocketfilms ❤️ #EndingYouthHomelessness
This space represents a lot of different things to a lot of different people. To the youth who visit us each day, it represents a place where young people experiencing homelessness can find safety, community, and support — which is why we are running the LA Marathon this Sunday. Our team of 15 runners will run 26.2 Miles through the streets of LA in support of the youth we serve every day at My Friend’s Place, so we can continue providing the vital programs and services that foster hope, healing, and transformation ❤️ If you’d like to make a difference in the lives of homeless youth, click the link in bio to support our Marathon fundraiser.
