Shopping ethically is easy to do, with a little bit of research. Avoid fast fashion. Buy less, or shop secondhand. Invest in companies that support local artists, are animal-friendly, and work to offset any potential environmental impact they might have. . Synthetic fibers shed micro fibers into waterways. Viscose rayon production is toxic, and contributes to the disappearance of rainforests. Cottons rely on pesticides that lead to worldwide decline of insects. The leather tanning process is so toxic that it significantly reduces the life expectancy of people near it. . Some good alternatives? Polyester made of recycled goods, Tencel, silk, hemp, linen and (some) wool. Leather alternatives from things like pineapple waste products are available. . Shopping online will offset the environmental impact of driving to a store. It can also let you research companies more easily. I love the Good on You app to research clothing companies.
