What happens in the Southern Ocean has ramifications for the global climate. . A glacier the size of Florida in Antarctica, called the Thwaites glacier, is increasingly unstable and could have implications for global sea levels, a new report warns. “The more this marine ice sheet instability occurs, the wider the range of possible future sea level rise becomes,” says Alex Robel, a co-author of the report published by @thenasciences. . "Surfboards in a forest may be an odd sight to see, but some of the world's best breaks are usually the most secretive. “A few years back while walking through Joshua Tree National Park, a friend pointed to one of the most perfect monolithic pieces of granite I had ever seen. This day started off with a torrential downpour, leading to a mass exodus of people out of the park. But by evening the wind picked up, the rock dried, and the line went. " . "Scattered throughout Joshua Tree are jumbles of rock just like this, called monzogranite. Monzogranite is created through the collision of tectonic plates, and the wearing of wind and water—paired with the build-up of molten lava—works to create the large cracks and oddly shaped boulders found throughout Joshua Tree.
