Heading to college soon? Prepare your car for the drive to campus in 5 simple steps. 🚗 #HereToHelp • 1. Replace your wiper blades. Every 6-12 months is optimal, depending on how often they're used. If they leave streaks, make noise or are hard and cracked, it may be time to install a fresh set. • 2. Fix minor scratches and paint chips. If they aren't too big, a touch-up paint kit might be a good option. Be sure to follow the instructions for the best results. • 3. Tire inflation and inspection. It's a good idea to visually inspect your tires at least once per month. This inspection should note tread depth, uneven wear and if the tire is cracked, damaged or otherwise deteriorated. If any of these conditions are found, you should consult a professional. • 4. Repair minor windshield chips. If your windshield has a small chip with minimal to no cracks and you want to fix it yourself, a repair kit may be an option. Some windshield repairs may also be covered by insurance. • 5. Wash and wax your car. One of the best ways to maintain your car's exterior is to remove dirt and residue that can damage the finish. It also provides a close-up look at scratches, chips and dings you may not normally notice. #diy #backtoschool
As a new school year begins, take a moment to review these safety reminders with the bus riders in your family. 🚌 #HereToHelp • Stand at least 3 giant steps from the curb while waiting for the bus to arrive. • Always walk in front of the bus – not behind. • Wait until the bus completely stops before standing up and exiting. • If your child needs to cross the street after exiting, they should make sure the bus driver sees them, take 5 giant steps in front of the bus and then cross after the driver gives them the go-ahead that it’s safe. • For more tips on back-to-school safety, check out @safekidsworldwide. #safety #backtoschool
Use these must-do maintenance tips to help keep your home and yard safe for your family's furriest members. 🐶🐱 #HereToHelp • Check your fence boards; repair any that may be loose. • Bury chicken wire to prevent pets from digging or escaping under fence boards. • Consider barriers around flower beds, vegetable gardens and open water areas (like swimming pools). • Store sharp tools, chemicals and fertilizers high up. • Unplug and safely store power tools. #pets #petsofinstagram
Power outages can happen any time and impact more than just your lights. Use these tips to prep for an outage before it happens. 🔦 #HereToHelp • Have a place in your home where flashlights, a battery-powered radio and extra batteries can be easily found. • If you think an outage could be coming, set aside extra water and buy, or make, extra ice to keep in a cooler. You can use the ice to keep perishable items cool. • Make sure the battery in your smoke detector is working. Test the smoke detector regularly. • Keep an appliance thermometer in the freezer. If the freezer is 40 degrees Fahrenheit or colder when the power returns, the food is safe.
Planning a wedding on a limited budget doesn't have to limit your creativity! Your first college apartment will be the home of many new memories, so make sure it also meets all your needs using our rental checklist. 🛋️ 🔑 • Does it have furnishings and appliances? If furnishings or appliances are included, find out what condition they are in and ask what is included in the contract. • What are the safety features? Ask about security concerns such as: Is the building secured with a locked entry? Are the doors to your apartment reinforced and do they have deadbolts? Are there security cameras, intercom systems or alarms and do they work? • What are the payment methods accepted for rent? Landlords can choose which forms of payment they will accept. The option of online payment allows for automation, security and convenience for both tenant and landlord. • What is the application process and screening criteria? Ask the landlord to explain the application and screening processes and application fees. A thorough screening process shows the landlord is careful about finding good renters. #HereToHelp
Volunteer opportunities are a great way for kids to socialize and learn about giving back. Follow our four step process for getting your kids involved this summer break. #HereToHelp Step 1: Discover their interests Animals, birds, buildings, cooking: Kids have wide-ranging and often diverse interests, and that’s the best way to capture and nurture their volunteer spirit. • Step 2: Do some research Once children have narrowed down a topic, help them learn more about the issues. Your goal is to broaden their perspective beyond the walls of their home so they can understand other people, places, cultures and issues. • Step 3: Find a local connection Sure, you can find a national or global charity that fits your kid’s interest—but you can also look for a local environmental group that is active and visit a natural area they’ve helped to protect. • Step 4: Choose a commitment Once you’ve identified that local connection, work with your kids to figure out how they can contribute whether short term or long term.

Use these tips to help keep your car's interior, exterior and under the hood safe from summer weather. 🚗☀️ • Use a windshield sun protector. It's a way to keep your car cooler and prevent sun damage. • Wash, dry and wax. Sun and heat can fade and crack the paint. A layer of wax between your car's finish and the sun's UV rays is a great way to help protect it. • Check tire pressure. Hot pavement and under-inflated tires can be a dangerous combination, and may lead to a blowout. • Check your fluids. The possibility of overheating greatly increases when fluid levels are below recommended levels. • Keep an eye on your battery. High temperatures and use of the vehicles A/C can cause it to wear out and fail quicker. Have the vehicle's battery and complete charging system checked regularly by a professional mechanic. #HereToHelp
Happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸 Here's to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Loud fireworks and crowds can be scary for pets. Help keep them calm and safe this week during Independence Day celebrations with these tips. 🐶🐱 #HereToHelp • Pets can become frightened or disoriented by the sound of fireworks. During the festivities, keep your animals in a quiet and escape-proof area of your home. • Keep matches and lighter fluid out of your pets' reach. Certain types of matches contain chlorates, which could damage blood cells and result in difficulty breathing—or even kidney disease in severe cases. • Don't put insect repellent or sunscreen on your pet unless it's specifically made for animals. Ingredients that aren't toxic to humans can be toxic to pets. • Be prepared in case your pet escapes. It's a good idea for animals—even indoor-only pets—to wear an ID tag that includes your name and contact info. #4thofjuly #pets #petsofinstagram
Are fireworks one of your favorite ways to celebrate? 🎆 These bursts look great in the air, but require a little preparation closer to the ground. Take a few precautions to help celebrate safely this year! #HereToHelp • Children should be supervised at all times around fireworks, sparklers or firecrackers. • Only purchase legal fireworks and store them in cool, dry places. • Wear protective eyewear when lighting and keep a hose or bucket of water nearby in case of fire.

An emergency fund is a critical component of creating a more secure financial future. Any time of year is a good time to tackle the first steps of establishing a savings plan for unexpected financial needs. #HereToHelp • Emergency funds are designed to help you with the unexpected – a car repair, home damage, even a lost job – happens. Saving acts as a buffer, eliminating the need for credit cards or loans to cover immediate and unforeseen financial obligations. An emergency fund should equal about three to six months of living expenses. • Take a look at spending categories, including your routine coffee habit and other incidentals, to see if you can trim a few things out and give a quick boost to savings instead. Be sure to immediately transfer the money to your emergency fund so it doesn’t get spent elsewhere on small day-to-day purchases. • It’s OK to start small, but most importantly, just start. Several hundred dollars can often be the difference between a car repair and a credit card bill, and you can accumulate that just by saving a few dollars a day over the course of a few months. #financialliteracymonth #financialliteracy

In early 2018, Ainsleigh posted the story of her husband Jason’s battle with a degenerative kidney disease on Facebook. Robert, who knew of his neighbors four doors down through Cub Scouts, read the post. He couldn’t shake Jason’s story. #HereToHelp • Robert, a State Farm employee, began researching the process of kidney donation. “My wife, Lynda, could see that I was committed and felt called to do this,” Robert says. “We figured out the logistics to make it work.” • About one-third of transplanted kidneys come from living donors and the process to determine compatibility is extensive. Four months into the testing process, Robert was still proving to be a match. It was finally time to share the exciting news with his neighbors as Jason neared Stage 5 kidney failure. • Now, more than two months since the donation, Robert and Jason are doing fine. “We were sitting around about a week later and Jason said he felt better now than he could ever remember feeling,” Robert says. “When you’re in the situation he was in, you don’t remember what normal or good felt like." • Robert encourages others to learn about the living donation process. “By choosing to be an organ donor on your license or donating blood, you can help others struggling with medical needs." #organdonation #organdonor #giveback

If you're still waiting to tackle your spring cleaning, use these shortcuts to help zip through chores quickly so you can get outside and enjoy the warmer weather! ☀️ #HereToHelp • Use a pillowcase to clean ceiling fan blades. Roll the case back, slide it over the blade and then close it while pulling it back along the blade. • Don't use too much product. Not only does this increase cost, it also increases the effort needed to clean up and rinse off your surfaces. • Use a lint roller to "dust" lampshades. • Cotton swabs make it easier to clean crevices such as fridge gaskets, behind the faucet and keyboards. #springcleaning #housecleaning #cleaningtips #housekeeping
Melissa owns her mom style. She describes it as "supportive and loving with a healthy dose of stern, plus a smidge of anxiety, full on panic and fear." For her, every parenting milestone brings excitement and worry. • "My daughter, Morelia, was so excited for her first day of school – she got to ride the bus," says Melissa, a State Farm employee. "I, on the other hand, freaked out about what could potentially happen. How she could get hurt or worse..." • "Within a one-week span, we had two near misses getting my little girl on her school bus safe. One angry driver who felt his time was more important than my daughter’s safety and a young driver with her head in her phone, oblivious to my daughter just feet away. Both nearly blew through the school bus stop sign and arm." • "This happened twice to us but it happens 15 MILLION times a year in the US alone. And, unfortunately, not everyone walks away like we did. We need to drive safer and teach our kids to be smart in and around buses – let’s do better together." #HereToHelp #TipTuesday #schoolbus #momblogger #momsofinstagram #drivesafe
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta helps children reach their full potential by matching them up with caring volunteers. • According to @bbbsatl, nearly 500,000 kids in Metro Atlanta live in communities with low child well-being. Many of them rarely leave their neighborhoods. So when Big Brothers Big Sisters sent a group of "bigs" and "littles" to a basketball game at State Farm Arena, the kids got an entirely different view of their city. • “An event like this exposes our littles to things they might not normally be exposed to,” says Kelci Sleeper of @bbbsatl. “Many professional basketball players come from similar backgrounds as some of the children we serve. It can be inspirational to see those players up close.” • To find volunteer opportunities in your community, visit NeighborhoodofGood.com. #HereToHelp #volunteer #giveback #BBBS

Most dogs will never bite but it's important to remember that any dog *can* bite regardless of breed or type. It's #DogBitePrevention week—a great time to test your knowledge of dog body language. Remember, checking a dog's eyes, ears, mouth, tail and posture can help you learn more about how it's feeling. 🐶 • Happy and relaxed dogs keep their eyes and ears soft and their posture relaxed. Their tails may be low or wagging and they typically keep their weight evenly distributed. • Alert dogs keep their eyes focused, their ears forward and may make direct eye contact. Their body can be tense and they may lean forward. • Nervous dogs avoid eye contact, flatten their ears and frequently lick their lips. They may lean away or expose their bellies to the person or situation they're nervous about. • Fearful dogs may furrow their brows or flatten their ears. Typically their mouths are tense and they may cower to look smaller or freeze in place. • Aggressive dogs often stare, wrinkle their noses and foreheads or bear their teeth. Their bodies are typically tense with their fur raised and tails stiff. • If you notice a dog that seems uncomfortable, don't yell or run. Instead stop movement, avoid eye contact, lower your arms and move away slowly. #dogsafety #dogbite #dogtraining #dogsofinstagram
At any given time during daylight hours 660,000 drivers are using cell phones, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. As technology changes, so do distractions. Teach your kids about credit when they're young to help them build good financial habits—start simple and look for teachable moments. 💳 #HereToHelp • Model good money behavior and show real-world concepts while shopping. Pay for one purchase with cash and the other with a card. Explain that the credit card is not free money, and you'll have to pay the bank back later. • Explain that things like an advance on allowance will have to be paid back by a certain date, just like you do with your credit card. • Allow your kids to borrow a set amount of money from you (credit limit) and write down when they need to pay it back (due date). If they don't pay on time, charge them a late fee and calculate interest on the amount owed. #financialliteracymonth #financialliteracy
