According to the @United_Nation_Refugee_Agency, MORE THAN 70 MILLION PEOPLE ARE DISPLACED WORLDWIDE. An average of 37,000 people flee everyday due to war, persecution, conflict or natural disasters. This is the highest number since the 1951 Refugee Convention, currently increased by the Venezuelans that are massively leaving their country in one of the world’s biggest recent displacement crisis. What can we do about it? This is one of most complex topics of our time, and language around refugees and migrants is often divisive, while anti-immigrant sentiment is rising in Europe and right-wing populist parties are being elected in leading countries. Plus Brexit and maniac desires of dividing walls and mass deportation in North America. This is all insane. Not only we should intrinsically want to help those in need, but we must also remember that studies on human migration show the Earth has been populated by the continuous movement of groups across the globe. WHO IS HERE TO SAY THIS PIECE OF LAND WE ARE STANDING ON IS MINE OR YOURS? And what were our ancestors if not immigrants? Most likely refugees — very few are those who leave a comfortable place. My family left Europe a century ago to look for better opportunities in South America. I went the other way around. And to think that I am a privileged traveler and immigrant, warmly welcome overseas because of my profession or social status while millions of distressed people don’t have a place where to settle is sickening. What can we do about it? First thing is to get educated. To know what is happening in the world right now. Read stories about those who had to abandon everything and head towards the possibility of a better future. Today is #WorldRefugeeDay and there are many actions happening in cities around the world. Get involved, make a donation, inform yourself on how to help or, simply and powerfully, start a conversation with those around you. • The striking image above, taken by Italian photographer @Massimo_Sestini, pictures a boat with hundreds of Syrian refugees crossing the Mediterranean in 2014. • #StepWithRefugees #LoveTrumpsHate #WeAreAllimmigrants

Traveling, for as much as it is one of the most beautiful things in life – the only spent money that makes you richer, they say – is also a largely wasteful and pollutant process. Think fossil fuels burnt by transportation, all the single use plastic items offered in hotels and airplanes, and the millions of plastic water bottles that will be consumed in 5 minutes to then take 400 years to decompose. THERE IS ONE TON OF PLASTIC WASTE FOR EVERY HUMAN ON EARTH. Luckily, some important players in the hospitality industry are taking responsibility and implementing measures to reduce their impact on the environment. To celebrate a few of them, and the past World Oceans Day (EVERY DAY SHOULD BE OCEANS DAY!!!), Vogue US published a round up I’ve put together with @AHotelLife’s favorite plastic free hotels. There are accessible ways of being more conscious when traveling, one of them is giving preference to businesses that are leading by example. • #STAYPLASTICFREE • ph. @cristinafaramo▫️🔹🌊

What I love the most about hospitality is that is as much an innate talent as it is an art to be mastered. Dear @marielouisescio, you and your hotels embody it all! Grazie di cuore 🖤 📷✨ @BenPundole

Immersive sensorial experiences are a potent opportunity to reset. We are multi-sensory beings living in a multi-sensory universe, but how often are we truly aware of all of the messages coming our way? There is intelligence in every cell of our bodies, and the highly sophisticated ones that see, hear, feel, taste, and smell are the gateways through which we receive all and any information from the world. In times when mental health is a topic more relevant than ever, it is important to remember that when we connect with our senses we give our overused and overpowering minds a chance to take a break, to reset and restore. //// HIGH ON HERTZ, a free to attend, fully immersive sensory experience is waiting for you on 323 Canal St in NYC until Tuesday May 28th 12-7pm. Come see us! • #HIGHONHERTZ #sensoryart

“Wear gratitude like a cloak and it will feed every corner of your life.” Rumi • I didn’t grow up celebrating Thanksgiving, in both Brazil and Italy the time of the year we look back and are grateful for what we’ve got is Christmas. But in almost a decade in this country, I learned how to value this religion and belief inclusive holiday. It’s beautiful to see how even New York, the busiest city in this land, is infused today in a sense of calmness and appreciation for all things. And I am grateful for being here. I am grateful for every day of this life, for every person I crossed paths with, for all my friends and family – close or miles away –, for all the teachings and all the bigger matters that inspire us daily. If you are reading this please know I am grateful for your attention and, wherever you are, I truly wish you all the best. • Happy Thanksgiving! • #thanksgiving #gratitude #celebrateeverything

Just announced by the @nytimes: Artist @TavaresStrachan has partnered with @SpaceX on a special project dedicated to Robert Henry Lawrence Jr., the first African-American to participate on an astronaut program with NASA, who tragically died in training in 1967, at the age of 32. On Monday, November 19th, Strachan will honor his legacy by shooting a satellite containing a 24-karat gold urn featuring a bust of the astronaut into space, metaphorically completing his journey. • Another part of his work dedicated to Lawrence Jr., this neon says: Robert Henry Lawrence Jr. was an astronaut who died while instructing a flight test trainee the steep-descent glide technique. On December 8th, 1969, he was ejected out of the backseat horizontally and died on impact. It was 11 years before another African-American was chosen to undergo astronaut training. Ms. Lawrence apparently received many hateful letters after his death saying things like “glad he was dead because because now there would be no coons on the moon”. • The show “Invisibles”, featuring this piece, other neons, a series of multi-technique paintings, and his 15-thousand entries “Encyclopedia of Invisibility” is now on view at @RegenProjects in Los Angeles until December 22nd. • #tavaresstrachen • #conceptualart • #blacklivesmatter • #encyclopediaofinvisibility

I am leaving Oaxaca feeling deeply infused with the creative power that this land holds. It is in the fecundity of its soil and in the strength of its plants, in the sweet and peaceful way of carrying on with a life that at times isn’t easy but nonetheless brings a familiar satisfaction day after day. There is a real sense of presence, something in the air that makes you want to savour every second without much expectation of what’s to unfold... And that is the biggest gift. • There is so much to share, and some beautiful stories are to be published soon. This land of generous people inspires its visitors to no end. Here, two powerhouses I had the pleasure to spend some precious time with, @kellyframel and @aureta, spontaneously transforming a friends gathering into a feast of joy and imagination. • Gracias #Oaxaca 🖤
