Ugh I’m so proud of this show! Seeing these dancers 👆🏼 bring my songs to life like they did this weekend was low-key a highlight of my life. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make it happen - especially my co-creator/director/producer/visionary @isabellaboylston. Last night we were talking about how we were born songwriters and choreographers but it took us years to feel confident in our own abilities - somewhere along the way we started to think we might just be a singer and a dancer meant to bring other people’s visions to life. But last night every song came from me, and Bella debuted her original choreography for the first time. We didn’t do it alone - we collaborated with many brilliant artists to make it happen - but we were always back there running shit. We felt so hyped on that (and the altitude + wine combo) after the show that we were talking about starting a camp for young artists so they don’t wait as long as we did to trust themselves. That one might take a sec -the point is we’re excited - but first we’re going to bring this show to some other cities because we need you to see it. Today I spoke on a panel at the @grammymuseum about my experience in the music industry. The audience was mostly middle schoolers so I focused on the beginning of my career and what it was like to be a teenage girl working with powerful, older men (spoiler: it wasn’t always cute!) Earlier this week I added my name to the @recordingacademy ’s pledge to hire more female producers and engineers. I work with a lot of brilliant men in the studio - they’re empathetic, talented, and they listen to me - and yet I’m still never quite as comfortable as I am with another woman in the room. There’s something cozy about it- a baseline of commonality before I start sharing my stories, ideas, and secrets with my collaborators. I depended on other female creatives even more so when I was that teenager starting out. So I didn’t sign this pledge just because the statistics are embarrassing - I signed it because I really believe the music will benefit. Gonna go get to work on the promise! Thank you to the @recordingacademy and the @grammymuseum for all of this ❤️
