Over 300 million tons of plastic are produced globally every year, but not enough is recycled. With the help of @conceptosplasticos, UNICEF is turning a household product into plastic bricks. These are then used to build safe schools for children in Côte D'Ivoire, giving us all something to smile about. Check out the link in our bio to learn more. 📸: @unicefcotedivoire

UNICEF #Mali works quickly to get children who are living in crisis the chance to learn and play. Helping them get back to being kids again is vital to their healing from the trauma they've experienced. Here, a child kicks a soccer ball from a recreation kit provided by UNICEF at Socoura camp.

Violence drove Oumou and her family from their home. Now living in a displacement settlement outside Mopti, #Mali, she is continuing her education with daily lessons in literacy and math at a UNICEF-supported temporary learning space. The deepening humanitarian crisis in Mali, where ethnic militias are waging a deadly struggle for power, has profoundly disrupted the lives of millions of children like Oumou. #ForEveryChild, a chance to learn! In Ethiopia, primary school dropout rates remain high, limiting kids’ potential early on. That’s why UNICEF supports Accelerated School Readiness (ASR), a program that aims to help vulnerable children catch up and in many cases, attend class for the first time. Local mothers also play a key role in supporting the initiative. With their help, ASR gets kids excited for school, ready for school, and keeps them in school. 📸: @unicefethiopia

#ForEveryChild, a safe place to learn. There's so much to do in 5-year-old Haneen's new classroom, one of 54 new kindergartens built and equipped by UNICEF in Azraq and Za'atari #refugee camps. Eager young students here were born refugees, to parents forced out of #Syria by violence. Their families gave up everything to find safety in Jordan, and their lives are still filled with uncertainty. But here in their kindergarten classroom, the students are free to play and learn, away from the pressures of life in a refugee camp. 📸: @unicef_jordan

Another highlight from our visit to #Brazil with @sofiacarson: “Every child in every corner of the world has the right to a life and a future, and it is our duty as citizens of the world to fight to protect it — with everything that we have,” she writes. “31 children are KILLED EVERY SINGLE DAY in Brazil. And it breaks my heart to say that 90% of this violence is directed towards women and young girls, though the majority of cases are NOT reported because to these girls violence is not only normal, but expected. Everything began to change when @unicefbrasil and @fcompaz began to EDUCATE young women. Violence in Recife has decreased by 35%. Education has literally saved the lives of MILLIONS of young girls. [Here], we danced together and we laughed and we smiled and we were changed for the rest of our lives.” #Regram #🇧🇷 #SofiaCarson

Syrian refugee Amjad Al Rashdan, 42, plays with his children Basel, 11, and Idress, 5, at home in Charlottetown on Prince Edward Island, Canada. "Just take your very important things and put them in a small bag and come with us."
