Trevor Quirk “My heart is heavy tonight as Justin Homze and I cleaned the Stagecoach Station parking lot for the last time. Spring is here and Upper Ojai Relief planted a new seed at the Summit Elementary School. But, as one of my favorite artists Bob Marley said: “In this great future, you can’t forget your past.” What a run we had. Thank you Nick Payne and Billy Lindsay for letting us use the Stagecoach Station parking lot. Disaster struck, but we hit harder. We rose to the occasion. We showed the world how a community responds to a disaster. We cut fire line and saved homes. We rescued people, burned bears and animals. We fed hungry families. Relief supplies were shipped in from around the world. BBC was in my living room. Fire survivors were fed, clothed and housed. We raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. We passed out hundreds of tools gift cards and supplies. We blew up rocks, fell trees, found wedding rings and heirlooms in ashes, shed tears, hugged and cried together. But, as we all plant new seeds this Spring, let us not forget our neighbors. Great work lies ahead. We will rebuild, together. ❤️❤️❤️ #werisetogether #whenthefirecomesgohomeandfight #thomasfire #upperojai #ojai #upperojairelief #ojairoar #bringingpeopletogether #lovespreadsfasterthanfire ❤️❤️❤️🔥”

Update on Station and $: Upper Ojai Relief served the following functions since the December 2017 Thomas Fire: 1) A relief station at Nick Payne and Billy Lindsay’s Stagecoach parking lot in Upper Ojai where goods, gift cards, tools and hugs were given to anyone in need, including fire victims beyond Upper Ojai; 2) Thousands of hours of free labor, including tractor work, hands-on relief and rebuilding efforts from our Board and volunteers provided to Upper Ojai residents and beyond; 3) To date Upper Ojai Relief raised $120,356. (25% to 500k Cláudia Malafaia de Figueiredo and Greg Cooper!) Of that, a $96,000 cash aid fund will be distributed February, 23rd 2018 to Upper Ojai residents. The remaining funds go directly toward Upper Ojai Relief’s long-term relief fund which will allow all the above efforts to continue. Future funds acquired will go toward the long-term relief fund to continue benefiting Thomas Fire victims in Upper Ojai and beyond. 4) The Station and Pods are moving to the Summit School where free supplies and hugs will still be given and, where we will hopefully be operating out of a trailer (we need one!) instead of Billy Lindsay’s parking lot. If you are reading this, you undoubtedly contributed to this movement. No single person made it possible-the community did. We’ve shown the world how a community comes together and responds to a tragedy. Let’s keep it going because yes, we do indeed rise together. #montecitomudslides #werisetogether #whenthefirecomesgohomeandfight #thomasfire #upperojai #ojai #upperojairelief #ojairoar #bringingpeopletogether #lovespreadsfasterthanfire ❤️❤️❤️🔥

Tomorrow, February 23rd, we are hand delivering $96,000 to 76 Upper Ojai families from 4-6 pm at the Station. If you applied for funds, please come meet Board Members Tessa Magill, Justin Homze, Aletheia Gooden and I, get your checks and a big hug. If you can not pick up your checks tomorrow, please pick them up at my office at 4222 Market St., Ste. C, Ventura, Ca 93003. Upper Ojai Relief started in the middle of the night on December 7, 2017 when Justin Homze and were fighting fire on Sulphur Mountain Road. We saw firefighters sleeping under their buggy, organized a pancake breakfast and coordinated instant relief for fire victims. Your love spread faster than fire. We turned the Stagecoach Station parking lot into a healing center. With your help, we are rising together. Thank you for being part of this incredible movement. #werisetogether #whenthefirecomesgohomeandfight #thomasfire #upperojai #ojai #upperojairelief #ojairoar #bringingpeopletogether #lovespreadsfasterthanfire ❤️❤️❤️🔥
