Last week, friends, family and responders gathered at Station 34 to celebrate CPR Survivor, Raymond Turner. After calling 911, Raymond's family recieved instruction on how to perform Hands-Only CPR, which they were able to do until responders arrived. Congratulations to VCFD Captain Jason Hansen Fleet Supervisor Mike Ashley for completing the L.A.F.D. Leadership Academy. The academy is an intense 3 month graduate level course developed by the U.S. Military Academy, West Point. During the program students study behavioral science, problem solving, organization, leadership practices and much more. The intent is to develop their leadership potential and encourage them to adopt a lifelong commitment to the study of leadership.
The 56 Academy is currently working the controlled burn at Ash Ranch in Thousand Oaks. These exercises help to gain valuable knowledge needed to be successful in their future careers.

Effective at 0800 on Saturday June 15, 2019, Paramedic Squad 26 will begin providing emergency service to Ventura County. This new resource will be stationed at Fire Station 26 in the City of Santa Paula. We are proud to announce this increase in our level of service. #vcfd
Yesterday Captain Matthew Ward was presented with his pin for 30 years of dedicated service to the Ventura County Fire Department. Captain Ward has spent a majority of his career at Fire Station 45 serving the City of Simi Valley. It’s week 6 in the #VCFD 56th Recruit Academy. Our trainees from both #VCFD and #Venturacityfire are learning the basics of hose and ladders. Understanding these two fundamental skills is critical and at the very foundation of firefighting. We are very proud of each of our newest team members!
We have been blessed with many employees and recently we gave back one of the greatest to retirement. Jerry Vandermeulen spent the last 31 years serving the citizens of Ventura County. He retired this last week and we will miss his smile, his knowledge, his dedication and his compassion.
