Never underestimate the power of starting a party with your friends in a basement somewhere... On this day in 1973 some Caribbean kids started was we know to be hiphop 🖤 humble beginnings and look how far we took it...one could argue we are lost at sea. (Photo via @ivie.ani)
Thank you @22gzofficial @slayter @27delly and the birthday boy @kelv for coming out during my set @fgdayoff 🎤🎬🚀👽 when the aliens looks at these photos in 100 years they are going to be looking at a little piece of New York history 🙏🏽 thank you @atrak for letting me take over the stage with you!!! 📷 @jockograves
Me and some special guests are pulling up on @atrak this Saturday. Make sure you get your tickets to the movieeee! 🎥🎥🎥
This is for the one who left me on read...flowers for your grave, metaphorically you’re dead.

Last night I got to hear @dapperdanharlem in conversation with @marjon_carlos and it was so brilliant I felt like I was listening to a Ted talk. The way Dapper Dan thinks about the world we live in and the way he communicates the impact of people of color on fashion is maybe the most genius I’ve ever heard. I’m going to need you all to give this man his roses, his honorary degrees, his Ted talks, his film/tv deals, his budgets, his professor position at ivy leagues and all that WHILE HE IS ALIVE. Life changing to hear him tell the history of fashion through the lens of Harlem. Read this book, buy copies for your homies. Ok that’s all for now 😁
Still can’t believe I’m in an @mcmworldwide campaign and I got to fly to London to record a 2 hour radio show with some of my favorite songs of my generation from New York to London including all the secret pockets from Dyckman to Lagos. In the 80’s and 90’s black and latinos in the ghettos of America made MCM relevant and now a Dominican DJ from Dyckman is creating the soundtrack for them that will last forever. Redefining luxury!!! Please listen to the show now on @nts_radio !! I’m dropping a new radio mix every week via @planetxnewyork ✈️✈️✈️ #thetraveltapes
What if I told you I’m licensing cartoons and making vegan icecream versions of your favs... What if I told you I’m working on a food project that’s going to change the way low income youth relate to their diets... Would you invest?
How come it’s always “Hey, wyd, can you inspire me for free?” and never “Can I buy you art by black women artists?” ?! 🤣😜
I’ve been working on a ten year overview of all the work I’ve done independently and though many of you know me as a DJ that has travelled the world djing, the reality is since 2009 I’ve creative dirtected, produced, curated and performed at @GHE20G0TH1K which changed the game locally and globally...In 2016 launched my own alternative retail store @planetxnewyork creating an underground platform in for so many brilliant designers that deserved space like @nosessola @cactusplantfleamarket @cometees @lou_dallas and more after years of working with @hoodbyair and @telfarglobal in all types of roles from guerilla marketing, runway show production, even early sample production to music direction. I never took the time to make a resume because being independent with no agents or publicist or managers means working NONSTOP. When I started creating this personal history I realized HOLY SHIT I am so proud of myself and I have been grossly underpaid and underrepresented for most of my career, as well as written out of many histories and written off as crazy because I am pioneering a whole NEW WORLD OF POSSIBILITY. I’m going to leave this here as a reminder that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE and THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING... oh and I’m writing a book about it all.
Queen of the anime expo!!!
I’m not easily impressed by DJs these days, but this guy right here...he’s different. Omar S is someone everyone should see before they die. Living legend and I wish more brands would book real DJs instead of influencers because then we could restore some respect to this CRAFT that has absolutely nothing to do with how you look. Thank you again @cactusplantfleamarket @stussy @doverstreetmarketlosangeles @denimtears for including me a young woman of color on SUCH a powerful lineup. #blacktechno #detroit #techno
Pride makes me think about all the beautiful women I’ve loved, even the ones who were crazy. Life is short make sure you enjoy whoever you want. Thanks again for having me star in your campaign. @adidas #loveunites #pride
Love yourself enough to move back to your homeland, buy acres, marry a local and keep the bloodline strong and black/indigenous 🤷🏽♀️
Thank you @acclaimmagazine for the honor of being on your second cover!! When we shot this in Australia back in March I was surprised by how many indigenous and brown women were commissioned to create the image and story and how kind and prepared your whole team was not in the traditional production sense, but genuinely knowing what I do and what I stand for and how I see the world and my work as a DJ, curator and leader of the future. Bless the team who made this possible and the fans in Australia who showed me SO much love!! [Words: @kotare_djsezzo, Photography: @lekhenaporter Styling: @kurt__johnson, Hair/Makeup: @babygirl.tea]
Never in a million years did I imagine @barneysny would ask me to host an event at their store, but my life has officially turned into an episode of a modern Sex and the City, except the cool girl is now a total freak of nature that wears comfortable shoes and motorcross attire. 🤣🖤 See you at @barneysny @crocs tonight!! #CrocsXBNY
I just had a long conversation with the lovely juice bar attendant about how we, black and brown people, have been programmed out of thinking healthy food is for us, programmed to think it tastes bad, is too expensive and looks bad ALL TO ENHANCE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF WHITE SUPREMACY AND COLONIZATION. It’s crazy to think our bodies are machines, the wildest sportscar of our dreams and we put soda in the gas tank because of MEDIA MARKETING, LACK OF ACCESS TO FOOD, LACK OF CULTURAL IDENTITY AND LEARNED PATTERNS OF SELF DESTRUCTION...and we wonder why the lamborghini looks good, maybe, but won’t reach it’s full speed potential. Be mindful my loves, they don’t want us to be the best we can be because then we’d probably have magical powers.
It’s my birthday!!! London you’re in luck because the queen @kesh and some of your most talent DJs and I are throwing a last minute party SO COME OUT TONIGHT!! Details in my story. New York we will be celebrating at a few events this month SO STAY TUNED. And all that aside I really just wanna say thank you to my fans for keeping me inspired and motivated, for dancing to my sets and sharing your stories of love and inspiration you’ve found during sets and at @GHE20G0TH1K. I love you guys. I’m so blessed to be alive.
Gentrification is problematic. Gentrification is colonization. Gentrification is violence. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.
Came home to this last week just in time for it to feel like the most perfect birthday gift!! Thank you @virgilabloh @pioneerdjusa people think CDJs aren't that special but boyyyyy without my fascination and obsession with these I wouldn't be here today. Anyway tomorrow I'm out to Montreal for @muralfestival then Monday I'm in London for a week working on a special project. Check my bio for all my June dates and thank you for alllll the love and opportunity to do all this. I feel like I can do anything now because I look around me, Dyckman, The Heights, The BX and I am A VERY LUCKY GIRL.
This Pride I am starring in my first ever campaign for @adidas and I’m really proud to share that they are donating $250,000 to the @trevorproject which is the largest LGBTQ+ suicide prevention and crisis intervention hotline in the world. I am really grateful to have flown out to Portland to work with @gia.goodrich who genuinely let me share my wild ideas about @GHE20G0TH1K and why radical feminist lesbians are the key to saving the planet 🤣 Anyway as a controversial bisexual Dominican girl from Dyckman this spotlight is a huge deal and a big moment for all the latinas I know who struggle to come out as lesbian or bisexual because of the stigma in our culture. I hope my future wife/partner is out there reading this!! Love is love!! Thank you @adidas #thetrevorproject #loveunites #givingwithadidas
Thank you for including me in this beautiful campaign @burberry @riccardotisci17 and to @iam_thechong @raisaflowers for making me look beautiful!! I can’t wait for you guys to see the full editorial and article later this month on @hypebeast THANK YOU @laronhoward and everyone who worked on this for letting a Dominican girl from uptown tell her story!! I’m so proud to be a pioneer in the DJ world and work with brands who let me inspire young people who look like me. This is the intersection of fashion and music we need more of, less about modeling and more about STORYTELLING.
I really want to buy more art from young black and brown artists, my dream is to create collections for Dyckman and Dominican Republic that become museums. If any young artists that follow me want to trade or have work that is affordable PLEASE CONTACT ME. Love you guys. Buy art, not drugs.
Flash back to my sold out Australia show last month!! I've been collecting footage from all my shows and projects since NYE 2018 with Cardi B and I think it's time I make a little movie so you can see what's really happening because YOUR GIRL IS OUT HERE!! NO MANAGER, NO AGENT, NO NOTHING JUST STEADY SUPPLY AND DEMAND AND NOT COMPROMISING THE SOUND FOR ANYONE.
Don’t fall in love with anyone who isn’t your biggest fan and isn’t proud to be with you and nurture your genius. People have this dating and friendship thing all wrong, whether it’s romance or just friends or work ONLY KEEP RIDERS AROUND YOU. Honor the ones who see your greatness and do anything they can to help you be your fullest potential. Love is real. I wanna know real love not this fake stuff everybody pushing. ❤️
Last night I was fortunate enough to attend the @voguemagazine pre Met Ball dinner at Stone Wall. My look was inspired by @halleberry in B.A.P.S. which was written by @troybyer a WOC, Celia Cruz and all my mom and aunts updo's from the late 80's and early 90's. CAMP is second nature to us especially uptown Harlem and Washington Heights like most Black and Caribbean neighborhoods take hair and styling very seriously even if we are not famous or working in entertainment. I hope people pay the respect to the culture and the beautiful people whose big personalities and controversial fashions inspire it. (Tap for credits) #cottoncampy #metgala #camp
Got dolled up for the Vogue pre Met Ball dinner.
Happy Easter to everyone, whoever your god is make sure you stay prayed up and grateful.
Who would come to my DJ master class in NY? // Quien vendria a mi clase de DJ en NY?
Honored to be on a cover with some of the most brilliant people in New York 😭🖤 Thanks @lofficielusa // Es un gran honor estar en una portada con algunas de las personas mas brillantes de New York. Gracias L’ Officiel USA
This 6 foot 5 inch Ecuadorian crazy man is my dad. Afro indigenous and full of rage, he definitely passed on his wild ways to me. Crazy how life and the prison system can rip people out of your life for decades, but I will never forget running around uptown with him...so many insane moments it was literally a movie. Grateful for the street smarts he gave me and never censoring anything.
She likes to MISBHV
This was by far one of the best shoots I've ever done and then they tell me it's for a cover!!! What a blessing!! Here's to magazine covers all 2019!!
