Lovers’ rock: Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, is famed for her association with passion, pleasure and procreation. So impressive is her legacy that she is the namesake of marble company @temmermarble’s grey and pink Afrodit stone. For Wallpaper* Handmade X, small pieces of the material travelled from Temmer’s Turkish quarry to the east London studio of designer @robingrasby, who specialises in turning marble offcuts into beautiful terrazzo surfaces. In this case, his work provides a base for seductive side tables. Read more about the collaboration via link in bio (📷: @leon.chew) #aphrodite #terrazzo #marble #wallpaperhandmade #wallpapermagazine

When Indonesian architect Elyse Alam bought a vacant plot in Pasadena, California, she did so with the intention to develop and sell. Fate, however, had different plans. As one of the least populated states in the US, Wyoming is better known for its incredible mountain ranges and untouched wilderness than being at the forefront of design. However, in the small city of Jackson, @CLBArchitects unites both these elements in a single project. In the recently completed Dogtrot Residence, set on 17 acres of grassy plain, intuitive touches abound – from protruding steel frames built around the windows to provide protection from the snow, to the addition of a cascading water feature that undulates around the house. (📷: Audrey Hall) Read more via link in bio. #wallpapermagazine #architecture #wyoming #corten

Rising star: painter @farshad.farzankia (left) is known for his radical embrace of colour, yet his contribution to Wallpaper* Handmade X didn't involve a single drop of paint. Instead, working with fifth-generation joinery workshop @brdr.kruger, he presented a sculpture titled Phoenix, comprising two components, an elegantly curved bird supported by a rougher-hewn pedestal. Both were made from offcuts from furniture production at Brdr Krüger's workshop. 'There's some resemblance to the Japanese philosophy of kintsugi,' says the brand's creative director, @jonaskruger (right) of the concept. Casting call: The sculptural Echo lamp, designed by Brendan Ravenhill Studio and @maisonintegre for Wallpaper* Handmade X, uses light and bronze as the material embodiment of two people in love. Two curved bronze shells, one a light source and the other a reflector, appear to dance around and envelop each other as a metaphor for how love is best understood when projected upon others. Without the other, each piece would be unable to function: the reflector would sit dark, while the lamp alone would cast a harsh direct light. Together, they unite to create a beautiful formation and glow. Read about the making-of the piece, in Burkina Faso, via link in bio. Spin class: Created for Wallpaper* Handmade X, 'Cabinet of Love' celebrates the warm embrace of vinyl. 'I wanted to work with nerds, people who really pay attention to what they're doing,' explains @mr.thomaslykke, creative director of @oeo_studio. He brought on board bespoke wooden furniture manufacturer @gardehvalsoe to build the audio station in smoked oak, burnished brass and pietra di fossena stone, then invited sound experts Bergmann Audio and @gatoaudio to supply the turntable and amplifer, each with a custom finish. As a final flourish, in came 200-year-old Danish leather brand @dahlman1807 to create the leather detailing, a vinyl bag and vinyl brush. Read the full story via link in bio.
