REST IN PEACE, HARLEY RACE: I was saddened yesterday to hear of the passing of NWA legend, and of course many other federations as well, Harley Race. For the death of an august legend such as Mr. Race hits those of us hard who know what he meant to the business both as a true champion, as well as a champion for those who, having a dream of competing in the squared circle themselves, sought Harley out as their teacher. Eight times a champion of the @NWA, Mr. Race dominated at a time when only a handful of men could. Steely, soft spoken, and tough as nails, I retain the sense memory as a young boy watching Harley scare me in a way only he could; through the medium of Saturday morning television. So in my role as President of the organization Mr. Race came to define, let me offer my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to what he gave to NWA fans all over the world, and our sincere condolences to his family and friends for his immeasurable loss. Harley simply cannot he replaced. On a personal note, I’d like to relay a last few thoughts. When I first heard news yesterday of Mr. Race’s passing, my instinct was to step back and let those who knew him well speak; for I’ve had the fortunate opportunity to see first-hand the respect that the men and women in this business have for Harley. A respect I would classify as heartfelt and profound. As well. and though I’ve had the opportunity to meet Mr. Race and work with him, I’d never gotten beyond being in awe of the legend; which as many do classifies me more a fan than a compatriot. And I share that not out of churlishness but because it illustrates the wellspring for which I draw my passion for professional wrestling and this long, slow revival of the NWA. For a legend like Mr. Race was made through blood, sweat, and tears, back when being a superstar was not nearly as lucrative as it is now; nor as bright. What Mr. Race bequeathed us cannot be bought, but it can be harnessed and directed at a new generation who I’d argue sincerely need heroes like Harley and Mr. Thesz, and of course Dusty. This is our way to pay tribute to the business Mr. Race loved, to make champions in his likeness. Long Live The King.
Of the three picture AJC and I took this morning, this is the one he choose. Wishing everyone as illuminating a Saturday as he is having...
Departing Europe this afternoon after an epic trek. When with SP, and as a solo artist, I crisscrossed around till I wasn't quite sure where I was going or where I'd been. Certainly, this is one of the greatest runs I've ever had as a performing artist, and I can only express my deep gratitude to the band, crew, and of course loyal fan base as well as newer fans seeing us/myself for the first time. Almost without exception the shows were fantastic, and memorable; as the impossible was endeavored in freezing cold and gale force winds, or a baking heat that choked your breath with dust. Sure, Romania was a folly (nothing to do with the fans, save for those talking and talking and talking...You know who you are LOL). And there were nights if some members of the audience were waiting for a different, perhaps more aggro SP(?). Through it all the band played spectacularly, and I was able during the WPC shows to play an average of 24-26 songs a night; the majority of which were songs written in the last few years. I feel great times ahead, and when rock returns from the youthful ranks to flay the pop ranks I look to very much enjoy the ride. So yes, see you soon in the good 'ol USA with Noel and the Afi'ers. It will be a blast. I've just got to get a lighter version of my cossack and we are all good. Till then, I'll be updating on SP vol 2/3 progress in studio. @smashingpumpkins
View from a well-needed day off in Bologna. We spent about 11 hours in the car yesterday, plus played a full show outdoors; which though beautiful proved challenging with the heat, bugs, and dehydration of the desert air. But this tour, like SP's, has been fantastic. With two more shows to go here in Italia, then back to SP for a week or SP with a solo show in Romania! I can't thank you enough for helping make these musical rainbows come true. I enjoy and appreciate this more than I can even convey.
At the gig. Always waiting. Got some surprises tonight, though... Here in beautiful Luxembourg
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY! To all the Dads out there, we need you and need you now more than ever, to be strong and lead. Our children are the greatest treasure, and we all have the opportunity to protect their dreams and in turn, build a better world than we have now. This is your legacy, and we need you. Pictured here is AJC in younger days, telling me the way it was gonna go. Somehow he inherited that gene from me. God bless, and have a blessed day -WPC
Sadly, our Puppitos were in an accident this night (thankfully, no one was seriously injured) so no Puppitos in Austria. @smashingpumpkins
Well, we didn’t play the Stones classic ‘Street Fightin’ Man’, but we played the rest. Thank you, Prague. Brilliant, hot show. I got a concussion afterwards, but that had nothing to do with you (I ran smack into an errant bus door) @smashingpumpkins
Bucolic days in Berlin. After a lot of rehearsal, and moving about, and then 3 shows in a row with some bruising bus rides, we've landed in Berlin for some days off before our sold out show tomorrow, here, for 10.000 people. Which blows our mind because for years we couldn't even get a show in these parts. But thanks to our great fans here, they've made it happen. So we are very much looking forward to tomorrow evening. Followed by the great twin festival of Rock am Ring and Rock am Park, where we have the distinction of playing with Tool and many other great artists. These really are the best times. This shot is taken in front of a building with American ties, where there is a Bauhaus show ongoing. If only those artists knew the influence they'd have on our world, their minds would have been blown... @smashingpumpkins
The wages of sin
A few snaps from Grona Lund Amusement Park in Stockholm; where we played last night. Think of an old school American theme park, with a 1920's funhouse, a wooden roller coaster, a spook house with live actors, and even a Tunnel of Love! Had great fun walking around the park and enjoying the convivial atmosphere. And even better, we played a stage (in the park, mind you, with rides whirring away) that has been graced by Jimi Hendrix, Elton John, Wings, Uriah Help, T-Rex, Thin Lizzy, and on and on and on. The show was a blast, and they told us after 12,000 people had come. Accordingly, Bob Marley has the all-time record for 32,000 people. Amen to Bob on that, a true legend. @smashingpumpkins
A thank you, universal in nature, for being here. For the mighty SP embarks on another European tour, 31+ years on. The wildest of rides. And so many friends made along the way. The other day I found myself musing on a much beloved musician, the kind everyone liked to like (I like them, too), but certainly their music is not respected per se as I'd hope I've gained some modicum of it from you. Anyway, I said to a friend, if I had it to do all over again I'd still choose the harder road in music and in public life. The road less traveled (a poem which always spoke to me, obv) versus one of back patting and slavish, numbing approval. Not everyone agrees with that inclination, and I can certainly respect why: life is short, and why be grim when you can party, or laugh, or yeah, be liked? I said many, many times when I was young (in my 20's) that I'd have preferred (and this was honest, btw) to belong, to not be some loner outcast archetype against the grunge cash grab. That if I'd been made to feel I belonged as a teenager there'd be no Billy the Vampire Bat, or Zero, and so on. So note: I DID WANT TO BELONG; it just didn't happen. But it's not in the Corgan or Maes bloodlines, anywho, to be-long. It's not who we are; confusing as that is to us. My son is the same way. He is just is a natural iconoclast. He doesn't try to be that way, he is that way. And the world, particularly now, needs it's windmill chasers and it's linguistic assassins and yes, it's ageing Goths. Long live the Goths. And God bless you who hath made this crazy dream possible. In you, you have made it immortal. And it will outlive us all, which is majestic. So thank YOU. As they say in Cali: you are rad. See you at those shows, SP and WPC, too. Lots of music, new memories, new memes. New stupidities. The true Gods will roar. And the little gods will cower behind their manicured beards and plastic weapons of mass destruction. Bite from the apple ye saints, the poison will do ye good... -WPC

Teutonic Tussles SP in BERLIN
With the brilliant and indomitable Till of Rammstein, who just released a new record (this was from their record release party). I used to say SP was your band for the Apocalypse, but now I'd say that distinction absolutely belongs to @rammsteinofficial

There is no greater Love
I find I say less and less these days about most things, but it’s not for a lack of passion about my family, my friends, the band, my solo work, and of course the @NWA. In less aware times, I’d blab about all sorts of topics because I had the platform of celebrity and the hubris of someone who didn’t really follow the day to day machinations of social culture. Anyway, that’s a long preamble to get to here, which is an unbridled enthusiasm for this Saturday’s Crockett Cup in North Carolina (the legendary tag tournament of the NWA, resurrected under our watch and with great gratitude towards the Crockett family PLUS Aldis vs Scurll + Mack vs Cabana + Kay vs Garett). For those who follow the wrestling bubble, you’ll see that the participation here of #CMLL from Mexico, @newerajapan, and our partners @ringofhonor is a beautiful and rare thing, and it is with the blessing and support of the brass at ROH that such an event is made possible. These are exciting times for fans of any artistic endeavor, as lines blur and opportunities are made manifest in ways that would have been deemed impossible only 5 years ago; as seen by the robust buzz around @allelitewrestling (a talent-led company). So yes, there is this event , of which I am proud and excited to take part in (live YOUR dreams, I say), and proud of my colleagues at the NWA for their hard work and faith in myself and David Lagana. But most of all, I love the communion of the moment, and thrill of the lights gone down. That will never change, and it’s your endorsement that makes that possible. So thank you for this milestone. And if you can’t make the show, watch us on the @fitetv app. It’s super easy to use and affordable. See you Saturday! Till then it’s SP drums with @chamberdrums @nickaldis @martyscurll @willie_mack @coltcabana @santanagarrett @sienna @nwa
It don’t look like much but 60+ ideas demoed, 20 songs tracked with drums, band on point and motivated, and a great summer tour looming the guitar is still my weapon of choice; only surpassed by the weapon of prayer. Thank you for keeping the faith, and I wish everyone a beautiful holiday weekend. Hope to see you soon, whether it’s with the Pumpkins at the festivals, my solo shows in Europe, or back stateside with Noel and AFI. Remember, we are all blessed by one another. So celebrate, and be loved...
Today's reading as we work on editing drums and adding other rhythm ideas on new SP LP.
CHERIE CURRIE: So cool that this came out on RSD, featuring a song I wrote just for Cherie ( who was a joy to work with ) So check it out! #cheriecurrie
Dad life still life, Sunday night... And yeah, he likes his toys!
Heaven. Mornings with Philomena.
So it begins! Philomena Clementine with my ‘Adore’ acoustic (the one I wrote and recorded the songs with, in current use writing new SP album) @smashingpumpkins
AJC and I. Every day isn’t easy, but every day is worth it. In one 5 min span we went from him pouring water onto the floor (prompting a moment, as I’d asked him to stop), to him pointing out we have ants invading the kitchen (we live in the pseudo country). He asked, ‘are the ants marching?’ I affirmed this as I scooped them up (our policy, generally, is to displace interlopers gently to another location, for as I told him, ‘we must respect all life.’ I find myself in a slightly more introspective mood than usual as I’ve just watched my friend’s video ( @mariakanellis) about her husband’s battle with pain pill addiction (an intro is posted on her IG page if you are interested); as well as I’ve also seen this week where my partner Chloe encouraged discussion on her IG page this week about moms struggling with post-partum depression. Point of saying all this being is I too want to be a positive part of a wider ranging societal discussion on how we can better help one another as human kind. My greatest recent interest being (in the public sphere) the issue of bullying, and how damaging it can be to children and, by extension, how the art of bullying is often acceptable behavior if someone can justify why their person of interest deserves it. We all have regrets in that department, but now we are seeing the very real data of increased teen self-harm and suicide, and for my own generation, generation X, the loss of so many great artists due to suicide or drugs or both and of course a host of other factors we cannot unspool so simply. But let me put it to you this way: every life is worthy of restoration and rescue. And when we consider how many people can find hope in the aspirations of another’s journey, it is often the most fragile among us who have the most to contribute. If the flight of this beautiful butterfly sounds like you, to you, keep fighting for the great things in life. They are absolutely worth it.
CONGRATS to @casperwebsite for winning the Overlooked Gems 1988-1990 contest. The good news is stuff like this encourages me to want to play these songs again (if we ever do some kind of anniversary or deep cuts shows, or I guess I could play them on WPC shows, too). Although HONEYSPIDER solo would be a bit strange? Unless I involve @katiecoleofficial? Hmmm...
At first, AJC didn't want to stand for this picture; leaving as we were from a daddy date to share some pizza. But he had pointed out 'his' letter (A, for Augustus, which he's just learned to draw and recognize), so doing the insistent parent bit I made him climb the stairs and wait. On showing him this image, he approved.
Opened an old guitar case this morning and found this, the original scrap/lyric of ‘Thru The Eyes of Ruby’ (you know it’s old too cause you can actually read my writing). Every artistic journey starts with a step. Trust yours. @smashingpumpkins
ON SALE! NOW! Exciting!! Hope to see you there!!
